Before I started the hobby of painting minis a few months ago, I made a rule not to buy a new one unless i have finish painting everything. I made it as a reward for buying more. This makes me strive to finish most of it. Same rule with video games, I will not buy new game unless a beat the game. It is painful and ichy sometimes to pull the buy trigger but you will get use to it.

Companies are starting to catch on in a big way, too. GW, of course, but also big players like Nintendo with their completely artificially limited-time Mario releases, etc. It's gonna be a messy new era for us miniature hobbyists to navigate. But hey, like Dana noticed here, being cognizant of it is a good first step.

I'm starting to go in the direction "If I can't buy it from the company selling it, that doesn't feel like it should be my problem". When a game sells out in the first hour of preorders, I start thinking I should just get a 3D printer and be done with it.

Always love seeing these "Pile of Shame" videos. Because it lets me see what other projects are out there and what cool combinations the years has gifted ya with. And it both makes me realize I am not SOOO bad with my own pile, but also spurns me to better organize and determine my own projects. Sharing hobby projects is easily my favorite aspect of the hobby for me, I love seeing what inspires others and seeing where they could go with it. I look forward to many of these super cool projects and this fascinating way to dwindle the painting pile! :D

Plus I have 72 us infantry to paint and 48 Germans for a d-day project I have been working on for a year. I got the board built and finished just not the models finished so far. I also have a lot of necrons to paint. I even painted a deathguard army and sold it during the last year. I probably have about 700 unpainted models right now between bolt action, 40k, Lotro and Marvel Crisis Protocol. My Star Wars Legion are all painted. I also bought 2 pelennor fields starters I have been trying to get through. Still got 49 orcs to go and 10 rohan riders.

Last night I built a Deimos command rhino for my Night Lords army along with some of the elite terminators and while the zenithal prime job is drying I'm on building some raptors and scouts as well.

I actually solved my pile of shame issues by just getting into 3d printing. Now *I'm not getting anything that's just a copy of an official model* but rather completely different models that work as proxies in friendly games. Like for example actually good looking seraphon models...seriously come on GW,most of that range is about as old as I am. I realized that the reason why I was buying so many kits wasn't about really wanting to do several big projects at different times,it was more about just having the *option* to work on different things. So now that I have the option to just print out anything from kitbashing bits such as helmets to full on models I just don't have the need to buy kits that I wouldn't even work on for months. Basically since I don't *always* need to buy new models when I think I want to start a new project I managed to just work through my backlog to the point where everything that I still need to work on can fit into one relatively small plastic box. So now instead of collecting a pile of physical shame I've bought a massive list of STL files that are just sitting on my hard drive,waiting for me to actually use them. Mind you that backlog will get bigger as soon as Dominion is available but let's not think about that.
@donaldkelly98333 жыл бұрын

@@Space_Ranger Not to mention Grimdark Future: Firefight and Age of Fantasy: Skirmish. Then there's DnD, which always benefits from having small numbers of many different types of creatures.
