Dana, I'm 67 at 32 I was competing, I remember one night I couldn't get out of the bath tub I was so sore from leg training. My husband came in to the bath room as I was trying to lift my self out. He said, You call this healthy. We got a divorce. I just wanted him to admire me and I was getting admiration from other men. I gave up entirely when I was raising my daughter as a single mom. I started again at 66! LOL I look better at 120 now than I did at 120 off season in my 30's. I was so over trained, so underfed all of it...I seriously look hot at 67 but it is so easy to not count calories, carbs, training etc. just like you said. I have no reason to get hard on myself especially at 67. I'm just now getting my head on straight. I will get older, my skin will sag some day. I get so many compliments now! but why am I beating myself up growing my delts! hahahaha, but they are growing! My daughters boyfriend asked me if I was getting help. LOL It's fun, can I leave it at that. I enjoy being strong. I enjoy teaching this stuff to lady's who admire me at this age... Thank you Dana, This was awesome. I love your training tips cause the gym can get boring, It's not easy getting older and seeing it but it's going to happen. I need grand kids hahahaha. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You know why I love you? because you are funny, giggly and relaxed about the food. YOu have a good partner who is looking after your well being. I think you got this...don't stop the videos especially with Kristen Nun. you guys crack me up. I need a training partner to just make training fun...Maybe we shouldn't put limits on ourselves and just make it fun.

Dana, I started following your videos back in 2013 and I don't even remember who won first place at that last Olympia. You were always the star of the show to me and I don't think a lot of competitors will ever understand. You became an influencer in the best way. Not to mention you've lifted and hung out with some monsters in the industry like CT Fletcher, Kai Greene and Jay Cutler. Plus, you are hilarious!

❤ you Dana. If you actually did a podcast I believe everyone would watch. The biggest podcast is trainers who used to compete years ago and they talk about nutrition, mistakes when training, how training changes when you get older and random stuff about gut health and having doctors on the show. I used compete in the early 90's. Prep really sucked back then. I was natural. Seems that I under ate all the time going to a sports nutritionist. It finally took a bad reaction to change my ways. Turns out I cannot eat carbs anymore. No gluten, flour, grains, nuts and seeds, sugar, vegetables and egg whites. I have eaten nothing but animal products for over 8 years and it has been amazing. I can gain muscle at 51.

I’ve been watching you and Rob since “the early days”. I miss watching you prep for competition but as with anything in life, there’s evolution. Trust me-I get it. And I can relate to so much of what you spoke about. To this day, like what…15+ years later…I still want to meet you and tell you how much you’ve impacted my life. I’ve been struggling with my weight, my body and my mind. But I find myself coming back for spells…like, I’ll spend a few days just watching your old videos. Always coming back. Always. And now I’m just rambling. But thank you for being you and for just telling it like it is. Again, one day I’ll have the pleasure of meeting you and Rob and I hope I can tell you face-to-face just how much of a badass you are and how grateful I am to have stumbled across your videos one day. They’ve changed my life in more ways than you’ll ever know. ❤ Love you, Day.

I rarely comment on KZbin content, but this compelled me. This is one of the most real things I've ever seen you do. I met you and Rob years ago in Ohio... have always thought highly of both of you. I think what you spoke about in regard to the mental health aspects of competing is super important for a lot of people to hear. My wife always suffered from body image issues... she struggled mentally and emotionally with self image her entire life. Her dream at one time was to compete and she put herself through hell trying to do something her physiology just wouldn't let her do. It took years for her to understand that living and being healthy was more important than a few pictures of a body in an unhealthy extremely temporary state. I just lost her to cancer in December... I wish she could have appreciated herself more while she was here. A weekly podcast may be a bit much as you provide so much content in your videos, but maybe an occasional "DLB Keeping It Real" segment like this one where you talk about the real stuff would be a guiding light for more women (and men) who struggle with body image and make poor decisions that ultimately hurt them... and also give people who may be on the wrong path already a perspective that helps them get back to good. You may not read these comments, but you done good lady. You're a great human. ☮

As a natty powerlifter, I felt your comment about knowing what your body can do and not being able to compete. Both fields are rife with PEDs and it's both depressing and disheartening to see the competition lists full of women who are absolutely on the juice (but trying to convince everyone they're not)
@MsJessyJess Жыл бұрын
I just posted this exact sentiment in a Women over 40 BB group and they're very testy about it and get super defensive. It's always been in the industry but PEDs are illegal so they don't like to talk about it. I feel like it gives a fale hope of what someone is actully capable of.
@Ailieorz Жыл бұрын
@@MsJessyJess the frustrating thing is that many women are legitimately strong, but now everyone looks at strong women and automatically goes "ROIDS!" if we have even the slightest muscle or lift big numbers
@MsJessyJess Жыл бұрын
@@Ailieorz that's a separate scenario, and I can understand some people are genetically gifted but this industry really is riddled with going all the way back to people like Arnold Schwarzenegger
@Ailieorz Жыл бұрын
@@MsJessyJess I think you've missed my point. It's so rife now that people don't believe that women can actually be naturally strong or buff. I know many natty lifters who have all been assumed to be using PEDs simply because they're good. Women are more capable than people think but it's more convenient to just assume we're naturally weak so men feel better about themselves. Anyone thicker than Gal Gadot simply has to have used drugs because women can't possibly build muscle, when we absolutely can. It's just more misogyny

When I started training I had no clue what I was getting into and the coach I had was more concerned about selling merchandise and making a name for herself within the industry that I had no idea I was being trained wrong. The the caloric deficit and 2hrsa day cardio would come back to kick me in the tail. And I was over of those girls who after the competition blew up. And the depression and shame and all those feelings that came about was crippling. So thanks for sharing you always inspire and motivate me

This was helpful to hear. Thanks. Regarding when you asked at the end what we prefer..? I like your videos best, when your walking around cooking, etc. More lifestyle. ❤
