Sabaton tells stories... That's the key of this band.
@koettfaers3 жыл бұрын
Almost every band tells a story with their songs and music. Abstract story telling is, to me, alot more interesting than hearing song after song with generic song buildup with literal lyrics of "guns and cannons goes boom". Carolus rex is to me their only real proper album, nice concept album and I love the fact that the songs is written in swedish. Not common these days.

Sorry for this Wall of text :) In the beginning of the Video, you can hear the Radio in the beginning, when the are driving is talking about How the Bismarck have blown the "The might cruiser Hood" That lead to the British Navy got the message that Bismarck must be destroyed at all costs and lead to Battle of The Denmark Strait. The Kriegsmarine was Nazi Germanys Navy. The Video was made with help from the company behind "World of Tanks" that needed some material to their game "World of Warships". And yes Sabaton really played on a boat in the "middle of nowhere". "From Wiki" (just a short version). Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power. In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits to force an end to the raiding mission. The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 obsolescent Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was severely damaged during a sustained engagement with two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, was scuttled by her crew, and sank with heavy loss of life. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions.. All Sabaton songs are about historical events, mainly Battles, Heroes/ Act of Heroism / Famous last stands etc. You should really check out their History Channel, The have a Historian (Indy Neidell) talking about the story behind their songs, and Indy is really amazing storyteller and they do have a video about Bismarch and how this Video was made). Ps. Sabatons drummer Hannes van Dahl is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish :)

Sabaton tells the story of the German warship Bismarck, which at 50,000 tons was both the heaviest battleship at the time and totally illegal due to treaties limiting the size of new ships to 35,000 tons. She was designed to be able to hunt down and sink any lesser ship and fast enough to run away from any serious threat. In her first battle she fought the British battlecruiser HMS Hood and blew it in half with a lucky shot, killing all but a few sailors on board, while taking minor damage that forced her to return to port for repairs and reduced her speed. The entire British fleet was ordered to "Sink the Bismarck" at all costs. She almost made it back to France when a lucky torpedo hit by an obsolete plane jammed her rudder and forced her to sail in a circle, waiting for the end. A number of British warships converged and pounded her to scrap with hundreds of artillery shells, but the hull stayed afloat until a combination of British torpedoes and flood valves opened by her own crew finally sent the Bismarck to the bottom. There were few survivors.

The actual Bismarck stood a very good chance, even against all those ships. What doomed Bismarck was a single lucky hit by a torpedo dropped from a Fairey Swordfish (the biplanes shown in the video), which disabled Bismarck's rudder and left the ship unable to steer. Because of that the Germans were caught in the middle of the ocean, unable to fire accurately at the British fleet sent to hunt them down. In the end, Bismarck was struck by more torpedoes and several _hundred_ shells, and still didn't sink--the crew finally scuttled Bismarck (intentionally sank the ship) so that it would not fall into British hands.

Oh, Gods! it's been a long time since I've been waiting for your reaction to this song. And so a bit of a dramatic and tragic story about the most famous ship of the Second world war-the Bismarck, which went on its first and last voyage (like the Titanic), which ended in its death. Bismarck (KMS Bismark) - German battleship, the lead ship of the same class, was still no less famous for its brother-Tirpitz. Bismarck is one of the most legendary ships of the Second world war, as well as being the largest battleship in Europe and one of the largest in the world along with the Japanese Yamato and the American Missouri. Bismarck was launched in 1939 and commissioned in 1940. Bismarck's first (and last) campaign began on may 22, 1941. Then Bismarck, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen (KMS Prinz Eugen) was to break through the Danish Strait into the Atlantic and begin to sink convoys going to Britain. The first German squadron was discovered by the British cruisers Suffolk and Norfolk (HMS Suffolk and HMS Norfolk) on the evening of 23 may. The British battleship Prince of Wales (HMS Prince of Wales) and the battlecruiser hood (HMS Hood) went to intercept Bismarck. During the battle, Bismarck received several hits, at the same time 5 Bismarck's volley hit directly into Hood's artillery cellars. Hood was torn in two by a massive explosion. Of the 1,477 crew members, only 3 survived. Among the dead was the commander of the British squadron Lancelot Ernest Holland. The Prince of Wales tried to continue the battle, but to no avail and soon disappeared in a smoke screen as one of the shells from Bismarck hit the command post of the Prince of Wales, thereby killing half of the officers, by the way the second shell fired from Bismarck hit the Prince of Wales, but did not explode, the British then pushed him into the sea. Bismarck had one of the generators disabled, two fuel tanks were breached, and there was a trim on the bow and a roll on the starboard side. Gunther Lutyens (commander of the German squadron) decided to lead the Bismarck to the French port of Saint-Nazaire for repairs. Prince Eugen was ordered to continue raiding. Bismarck was chased by the entire British fleet in the region. Bismarck's injuries were not very serious, but they caused Bismarck to lose one of his main advantages - speed. The British lost Bismarck several times, but due to the fact that the British intercepted a radio message sent to Bismarck, it was possible to establish the approximate location of the ship. Bismarck left little to the French Brest. Also, when approaching the coast of occupied France, Bismarck could use Luftwaffe aircraft (Luftwaffe - aviation of the Third Reich) to cover. Only compound H, based in Gibraltar, was able to detain Bismarck. This unit included the aircraft carrier Ark Royal (HMS Ark Royal). On the morning of may 26, the Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers flew to the site of the last sighting of the Bismarck. Approximately in the same area was the cruiser Sheffield (HMS Sheffield). The Swordfish pilots mistook Sheffield for Bismarck and torpedoed it. The new magnetic fuses of the torpedoes did not work, and the cruiser remained intact. After this incident, the British changed the magnetic fuses to contact ones. By evening, Sheffield had made visual contact with Bismarck and the Swordfish torpedoes were back in the air. Swadeshi was flying very low and slowly, because of this, the crews of Bismarck simply could not distinguish from the sea. The Suodfishes themselves were biplanes that were obsolete even before they were put into service. The British achieved two or three torpedo hits. One of these hits was fatal for Bimark - in an attempt to evade the torpedo, Bismarck turned to the left and because of this, the torpedo, instead of hitting the main armored belt, hit the poorly protected aft compartment and tightly jammed the rudders. By morning, orders were given to stop the cars - Bismarck was in the zone of action of German bombers, who did not give Bismarck any help. Bismarck was approached by the British battleships Rodney (HMS Rodney) and King George V (HMS King George V). Bismarck's fire was focused on Rodney, but due to the roll and inability to evade enemy volleys, accuracy was very low. After 44 minutes, all 4 towers of the Bismarck group stopped firing. In order to somehow save some of the surviving crew, after being shot by British ships, captain Ernst Lindemann, who survived the bombing, ordered the engine room to be blown up, the kingstons opened and the ship abandoned. After the fuses were installed, 9 minutes later an explosion was heard from the depths of the wounded Bismarck, which contributed to the final sinking and roll of the battleship on Board. At this point, the cruiser Dosertshire (HMS Dorsetshire), firing 3 torpedoes at the immobilized Bismarck. Bismarck went to the bottom without lowering the battle flag. Of the 2,220 crew, only 114 people were saved - 111 people were saved by the British, and 3 people by the German submarine U-74. Captain Ernst Lindemann himself, as told by the surviving sailors, did not try to make attempts to escape, but on the contrary drove away all the sailors who tried to save him, threatening to shoot (this is so for intimidation), as a result, captain Lindemann heroically went to the bottom with his ship, the last time he was seen at the stern, when he said goodbye to the surviving sailors. The ship's cat Oscar, nicknamed "Unsinkable Sam"by the British, was also rescued from Bismarck. This cat survived the sinking of 3 ships-the Bismarck itself, the SS Cossack (HMS Cossack) and the aircraft carrier Ark Royal, the same one that caused fatal damage to Bismarck, in the Achilles heel of the invulnerable battleship. By the way after a dive expedition James Cameron, it has been proven that the British torpedo and shells are unable to contribute to the sinking of Bismarck, ie breaking was not detected by torpedoes at the armored belt, but below waterlinie was exactly cut out of the side, this proves that Bismarck scuttled by the Germans themselves when they blew the bottom of the ship and opened the seacocks and not British! Thank you very much girls again, for the wonderful reaction, and welcome to SABATON! I hope this reaction won't be the last for this beautiful band 😊💖👍🤘

I have watched probably a couple dozen reaction videos to this song and almost nobody catches the significance of the compass. Some even think it is a pocket watch. You were also right about Sabaton telling a story. That is what they do, they teach history, from ancient times to the modern day. Granted, most of their songs are about war and battles, but they do not glorify it, nor do they take sides. Listening to and watching Sabaton is a fun way to learn about history. Sabaton themselves love history so much that they also have a Sabaton History Channel on KZbin. The old guy with the compass was the last living survivor of the Bismarck when this video was made. He has sense pasted away. Sabaton is all about military history of all warring nations. After every song you react to, you should study the history behind the song. You will surprise the hell out of your teacher with the knowledge you learn, that is, if they still teach real history.

Very good reaction from you to :) I highly recommend you to react to "En Livstid i Krig - Live Gothenburg" by the same band. They play live in front of a massive swedish crowd, the song is very emotional and the crowd is great! Just remember to put on subtitles.

The Bismarck was the biggest Battleship Germany had to offer at that time and was easily able to outgun every single allied ship. In the operation Rheinübung the Bismarck should break out into the atlantic to raid convoys and starve britain into submission. The Bismarck and another german ship the prinz Eugen then encountered the pride of the english navy, the battlecruiser hood accompanied by the hms prince of whales. The Bismarck managed to sink the Battlecruiser Hood with a well placed shot and the pride of the royal navy was gone in 3 minutes. After that the english sent every ship they had to offer after the bismarck to hunt her down and sink her. The bismarck leaked oil and a huge oil trace was left behind her so when the bismarck tried to get back to german soil, it was spotted by allied aircraft and chased to the bitter end. After a torpedo damaged her rudder, she couldnt manouver and was sitting ducks. When the allied ships reached her the Bismarck was sunk after taking more than 400 shells. To show how impressive that was remember that an euqally huge ship mentioned before, the hood was taken down with a single shot of the Bismarck. Hope i was able to illustrate how it went down in this short explanation. Have a great day.

The old man you see in beginning and end of video is surviver from Bismark
@hnorrstrom4 жыл бұрын
Is he really the surviver himself or an actor, he looks really young. I know there was a survivor that recently died thats supposed to be him. But I want prof. Not that I distrust you or anything.

@@hnorrstrom Agree..dont know it as a fact..sometimes you just want it to be like that..sorry

No problem, everyone loves a good story. I have heard others say it is the survivors son that is the actor and that fits better in age.
