When sending an email to a coach, proofread it for sentence construction and proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. A person only gets one chance to make a positive first impression. Make it a good one by communicating effectively.

I’m 22 years old. I don’t have a kid. But I have seen how my peers and their parents acted in high school. Plenty of D1 talent in multiple sports wasted because they didn’t have these 5 tips. Every HS athlete needs to see this. Liked and subbed!

You're so right... One of my co-workers kid was definitely "D One" talent. He raked through high school and flirted with the triple crown in a competitive league. But at the beginning of his senior year, his dad kept screaming and cursing at the Coaches and Umpires and got banned from attending games. The father then pulled his son out of high school and home schooled him and thought the D-1 schools would keep calling. Not only did they stop recruiting his son, but he couldn't even get a call from a JuCo team. Obviously, the kid was never heard from again and blames his dad for ruining his dreams!

Wow what a shame! Sadly,It’s very common these days. I record my kid and play it back on tv for him when we gethome .I let him see what mistakes he made and what needs to be improved. At the games I’m quiet. I give him a thumbs up or 🤛 when he makes a great play or hits a 💣. While those around me are trash talking and being loud. The issue with majority of them is that they are trying to live their dreams thru their kids!

Good stuff dan. I’ve heard it said this way, >99% of the players scouts see aren’t who they are looking for so they are already inclined to look for reasons NOT to be interested in you. There are too many other players out there so don’t give them a reason to cross you off.

Yep I 100% agree with you. Especially for college when they’re taking a kid for 4 years, they’re doing their best to project whether they’ll have any problems. Searching for red flags makes a lot of sense.

I’m from a small city and almost in legion ball because we don’t have highschool. I’m afraid I may not be able to get recruited just because of that. The tournament closest to big teams is Utah. I am going to send emails and stuff but I’m just hoping I can prove myself and make it to the next level. Great video!

Two things you can't coach and the player controls: attitude and effort. The #1 thing I look at for pitchers is mound presence and how they react to adversity when an umpire misses a call, an error gets made, give up a big hit or they give up a big walk on a close pitch.

@Bob Bigboy It's good advice for any player. I coached Legion baseball against a guy who was a scout for the Phillies. One year the Phillies had the #1 pick in the country and came to watch Darnell McDonald play in a high school game. McDonald was going thru the motions and was lackadaisical during warm-ups and in and out. The Phillies decided off that they were not drafting him #1. A coach told me that Kansas University was there to watch his shortstop and came to pregame. He did the same thing about going through the motions. Before the game even started the KU coach picked up his stuff and told the coach he'd seen enough and left. No scholarship either.

@Bob Bigboy McDonald was being considered by the Phillies is what I said. He was drafted in the first round that year by the Orioles. That's not below average talent.

@Bob Bigboy There is also a big difference in money for the #1 pick in the draft than those drafted later on in the draft, even in the first round. So go ahead and tell a player to go half speed because you don't want a player to get drafted by a team and see how much it costs them.
