Matt Crouch I’m sorry about that , but Portnoy is playing a lifetime better with this ugly drum set then Mangini with his monster drum set. Even if he plays on a hello kitty drum set is far beyond better!

Ridonkulous! I have tried to get into DT with Mike Mangini. He is a stupendous technical player and seems to be a really genuinely nice guy. But his sound and playing style are a little too perfect. Portnoy had all the chops, but he also has a looser feel that actually brought some personality to the table and makes some really technical stuff still sound human. And then he improvs on top of that. For me Dream Theater just can never be the same without Mike Portnoy. He was the heart of that band.

@Wedigar: He didn't really "leave". He just wanted the band some time off and clearly the other members didn't want the same idea. So, some part of it says that he was kicked out and the fact that he wanted to return and wasn't given a chance because they were already commited w/ MM suggest that there could be internal problems already.
