Man, i would never expect a good cover like this... don't get me wrong, this shit is amazing... but darrots voice is so singular that i thought no one could make a cover gets interesting. I as wrong... you have a incredible voice, a good sense for music interpretation wich is essencial for covering FTM. Thank you for this... you deserve nothing but the best.

Almost spot on, FTM is so hard to sing along to. Excellent cover.

Been watching the guys in Fair to Midland for a long time (ran sound for them at a hole in the wall bar outside of Houston once), they'd be proud of the justice you've done their song. Great job!

I own a small venue in KS, FTM played several years ago and I dug this song then but I just stumbled onto your cover and have fallen in love with it all over again. I can't stop listening to your version and the FTM live version. The night of their performance Darroh was deathly ill, he literally leaned on the side wall and wailed out the tunes and nailed them all. FTM earns a top spot in my list of hard working bands. Thank you for your hommage to them by doing an amazing job with this song.
@rilkeybrond623910 жыл бұрын
Awesome cover dude! long time ftm fan here so I was skeptical going in to this but I gotta say, i'm taken aback. I especially like how you hit the 'marys' a mite earlier than darroh, really adds flavour.

That bit around 2:41, is that a throat singing technique? It sounds absolutely stellar, a wonderful addition to an already radical cover.
@MrIncorr3ct9 жыл бұрын
Yes it is ... The singer of Fair to Midland was renowned for his throat singing.

@TheHankarens I use Pro Tools to record and sometimes Adobe Audition. I don't do much to my vocals but add some compression and reverb. As for my sounding like these vocalists, I don't practice or put that much into it. I guess I just (and I innocently enough thought this was a common skill) remember the way they sing and phrase their words. Thanks for the support man. Greatly appreciated.

It was more of a fun challenge thing at the time. I had just found out about FTM and was so inspired by the music and Darroh's voice (especially after meeting him). I'm not necessarily proud of my performance here but it is what it is and it was also over three years ago. I've grown a great deal as a musician and vocalist since then. Thanks for not being shitty and saying pointless crappy things. :)

Phyllotaxismusic What you did here was inspiring. I'm thoroughly impressed. :)

Oh I wasn't saying anything bad. I was just saying that that was a tough one to choose. But, I admire the effort. I'm not putting anybody down. Darroh is just that good.

Darroh now gives vocal lessons. It's pretty sweet because if there's anybody I'd like to get those lessons from, it would be him. Such a cool guy and I also had the pleasure of meeting him in person. I don't know what he's doing now, but I wish him all the luck in the world. God what talent. And, by the way, phyllotismusic, I might be a good person to keep in contact with if you ever want your band pushed or promoted. Just keeping an eye out.

It's more like a forced mix voice. I learned how to use my throat (swallowing muscles) to stretch my vocal chords and reach higher notes a while back. That's why my neck puffs up while singing the higher notes. I've since learned more correct ways of singing that make it easier but also not (yet) as dynamic. Singing like I am here is quite physically difficult but among the right circumstances...a stylistic choice.

If I was a manager, I definitely give you a chance... I just suggest you to always keep everything simple. Don't put to much effects on everything. Less noise gate.Less compression. I will be pleased to buy an album when you make one soon!

Hey what kind of preferences are you using for vocals? I'm thinking about doing a full on cover and I thought it would help to know what you've done to achieve that vocal tone. I hear some slight delay and some airy reverb, but is that all?
@FyreNail213 жыл бұрын
You're my favourite cover artist on youtube, you rule man :) I don't think you've ever listened to requests/suggestions before but even if you don't want to cover this song I'd reccommend listening to "Lazarus" by Porcupine Tree

This is not even close to what Darroh could sing. But every cover is like this, because he's so special. Most of other singers have succesful or even better covers, but FTM is just insanely hard.
