The short answer is Thor, in most incarnations. In the comics, classic Thor and Herc are physical equals so in a straight-up brawl without any weapons, they can battle for months without any decisive winner. However when Thor is wielding Mjolnir, that gives the edge to the Thunder god. While Herc's mace is just as durable, it doesn't grant him much in the way of additional abilities like Mjolnir does for Thor. But while they are physical equals, Thor has way more abiities at his disposal, which is why he's the most powerful character in Marvel comics. While both have more powerful versions who are nearly omnipotent (Odinforce Thor, Rune King Thor, Chaos War Herc) those are special cases who aren't really relevant to the discussion, just as Superman Prime One Million isn't realy relevant to disccusions of how powerful Superman is. Now the MCU could certainly change things up- it's a different universe from the comics, and powers/power levels of many characters (including Thor, Thanos, Hulk, Captain Marvel and Hela) are quite different in the movies. But I'm guessing the same basic relationship (equals in strength, Thor with greater overall power) wil exist in the MCU.

Not against hulk and herc. He has just about the same amount of losses as he does wins against them. I only remember herc and Thor fighting once but that was when Thor fought him without using his hammer so Hercules just grabbed him and out him in a choke hold and Thor couldn't break out of it with Thor saying that without his hammer he doesn't stand a chance against Hercules because just like hulk, Hercules is a brute force tank. He doesn't have a versatile power set like Thor who has multiple abilities but his brute strength is top tier after hulk. Marvel had a ranking of physically strongest heroes in marvel and Hercules ranked second after hulk and Thor ranked third. Note this ranking marvel came out with was based on pure strength not overall power.

Comic Hercules is a full god except when Zeus takes it from him and makes him mortal. In The Incredible Herc run, he fought the Tartarus-imprisioned spirit of his mortal form.

They kinda clarified that "holding up the heavens" part: basically he was literally holding up the physical universe, or rather the physical manifestation of the universe. Realistically he's stronger than any mortal incarnation of Superman, probably on the level of Cosmic Armor Superman. But honestly so is Thor, who is coming close to being a cosmic entity like Galactus. So it really does come down to Thor's mystic powers. So the outcome is the same, just to clarify.

You mention Thor at his most powerful in this match up when you mention his feats against those like Galactus and more, but fail to do so for Hercules. In Chaos War Hercules literally becomes the God of Gods and gains such immense powers that he battled the entire Council of Godheads, at the same time, solo, and beat them all. He summoned Galactus from across the universe and forced him to work for him, because Galactus was no match. He beat the Chaos King himself.

He has weather manipulation, energy absorption and projection, some degree of matter manipulation, he can open portals to other dimensions, flight, teleportation, astral projection, time manipulation and much more I don`t really remember now. Hercules is slightly ahead on raw physical strength and fighting skills but Thor is more powerful across the board. Without weapons in a hand to hand combat I think Hercules will win most of the time but full boosted with all their weapons and abilities, Thor will win mostly. Also, in their most powerful forms, Chaos War Hercules > Rune King Thor.

two things about Hercules, 1. his Golden Mace, although not designed to act in the same manner as Thor's Hammer can and has taken a direct blow from said Hammer and come out fine as it is indestructible. 2. Hercules in one story arc attempting to confront a group of assailants in the Avengers mansion, admittedly while intoxicated was brutally beaten by said assailants including mister hyde.

@@CatotheE totally agree but that's his character he loves life loves living it and loves to drink and fight he has a habit of enjoying fighting so much he doesn't take it seriously enough a good example of Herc taking a fight seriously is the maestro comics where he wrecks hulk and blood oath where he is too drunk and angry to recognise Thor and almost kills him to the point Zeus had to stop him in this fight Thor states that Herc has a slight advantage in strength and skill over Thor.

Not exactly. Thor is 100% a god whereas Hercules is a demi-god. His mother is human. He only attains full godhood in certain storylines. Thor has always had full godhood. As for Odin and Zeus, they're equals but demonstrate their powers and abilities in very different ways. Odin is far more involved in universal realities than Zeus. Zeus only cares about being worshipped whereas Odin could care less. In actuality, Odin and Thor have more in common mythologically with the Yoruba gods of Olódùmarè and Ṣàngó. They're literally the same gods with the same powers and abilities but this is not something Marvel has done a good job expounding upon.

Yeah, Hercules is physically stronger. Thor himself admitted in comics that he can't match up against Hercules and hulk in pure strength. He admitted that he was always physically weaker than hulk in the fear itself storyline and he admitted that Hercules was physically superior to him in that one comic where he fought Hercules without his hammer and Hercules put him in a choke hold and he couldn't break out of it. That doesn't mean Thor is overall less powerful since Thor has a more versatile power set compared to hulk and herc which would even the playing field but in terms of just pure strength, herc is superior.

@@justsomeguy4033 many Olympians don't have any extra magical prowess most of them good physical prowess and fighting skills, but still a good, if not most have the capabilities to use / learn magic, such as zues, and some like ares have lower level magic, that's why her only has physical strength, but don't let that think he is weak his physical prowess is far better than a average olympain . He also defeated ares multiple times. But's his funny that he hai zeus son, but doesn't have any capabilities to use magic. But olympain still have immortality, even hercules, and have true immortality unlike Asgardins who need apple to sustain their life spain, Olympians don't need them, as they have ice instead of blood running through their vein. They also can speak all languages. So hercules - super human physical prowess, skill, battle iq and immortality, with all - speak Fun fact : superman can also speak all languages.

I know that this is a discussion about the match up between Thor and Hercules there are a couple things I felt needed cleaned up on your assessment of some of their other side battles. It’s true both have IMMENSE POWER AND STRENGTH, but you mention how both were able to take out the being GLACTUS and I certainly have a comment about that. I can agree with you that a GLACTUS weakened from long periods of not eating a planet might make him vulnerable. But you forget that even in that vulnerable weakened state it took virtually all the worlds superhero’s to bring him down and they only were able to do so when doctor strange was able to get into his mind and show him the trillions of innocent souls he killed which basically drove GALACTUS into shock. That being said, a FULLY JUICED GALACTUS would make short work of either or both Herc and Thor! Herc actually felt this cosmic wrath in one comic I read when without thinking he decided because of GALACTUS’S sheer size, this would be a glorious battle for the Olympian, so he lunged at GALACTUS, which did nothing more than enrage him and resulted in GALACTUS turning on the cosmic high beams to fry Herc where he stood, reduced what was left of his ashes into a gooey proto plasm, then TOTALLY reconstructed Herc back to life. In that edition of the comic it said it was the first time Herc felt humbled! I’m not even going to say much about a matchup with Thor and GALACTUS, a being on the scale of the celestial. I’ll say this though in one of the comics I had back in the 80s-I believe it was the NEW MUTANTS -the celestial came to judge the earth and Thor hit him with both barrels of lighting and it didn’t phase him a bit. Didn’t make a scratch. I guess what I’m trying to say is that if your gonna pit these two beings-Herc and Thor - in a matchup definitely go for it because it’s exciting to see these two go at it. Just be a bit more mindful of their individual back stories when you do.

Hercules is physically stronger and is a better hand to hand fighter than Thor. Thor himself admitted this but Thor is overall more versatile because of his wide range of abilities and his godly weapon. Hercules just relies on his brute strength and hand to hand fighting ability. It's a wonder why Hercules just never went to his brother Hephaestus to make a weapon that could rival mjionir. Hephaestus aka his half brother is the literal god of blacksmith and created all of the Greek gods powerful weapons in marvel comics and even created Zeus powerful lightning bolts. I have no idea why Hercules never went and got something powerful made for him to add more versatility to his combat ability. Also Hercules with just his brute strength and combat skills isn't someone to be messed with. He has beaten ares everytime they fought as stated in comics which is why ares hates his guts and ares is so powerful that Thor even struggles with him when they fight. The fact Hercules managed to beat him every single time over thousands of years is impressive as hell.

I agree thor would win, but it helps that he's had his own comic book for 60 years to have the stories available to show his power. Writers constantly have to upgrade him to outdo the last guy. Hercules has had a fraction of the exposure. Who knows how bad ass he would be if he had writers buffing him up al the time.

Hercules actually has weapons and is skilled with all weapons he just chooses to mostly to use his hands. He has Bow and arrows with Hydra blood from Apollo, mace from Hephaestus, the lion pelt which also protected him. Would be curious to see what would happen if Hercules did use his bow with arrows that were dipped in the Hydra's blood what would happen to Thor?
