Another fun fact: The only reason why Betsy Palmer (Mrs. Pamela Voorhees) agreed to be in this movie is because she needed the money for a new car, when she originally read the script she thought it was a piece of shit. But she had grown to accept it and the franchise over the years and even been to different horror cons.

I find it interesting when people today watch movies made 30 - 40 years and use toady's thinking or how the world is to think about what happens in a movie from way back then. Times were different. This movie came out in 1980, 41 years ago, but was filmed in 1979. Hitchhiking was VERY common then. So getting into a strangers car wasn't as much of an issue then as it is now. Sure bad things happen back then but not like it does now and not as often.

Yeah, in the 70s especially hitchhiking was common. Even then there were a lot of warnings that hitchhiking is dangerous, don't do it, but people still did. This was supposed to be a stand alone movie. It wasn't intended to have sequels but it made so much money as a low budget film that they introduced Jason as a killer to keep it going. That's the reason for the discrepancy between Jason being a kid and then a full grown adult. Cause a kid killer wouldn't be as scary. So it's really up for interpretation. Great review girls! ❤

Emma is right. The element of surprise is a very strong thing. If no one has their guard up then it is easier to kill them. Annie was he only one that saw it coming but she was also injured with her leg so there was little fight with her. Ned was killed by surprise in the cabin. Jack was also. Marcie went into instant shock and just stood there to get the axe to the face. Brenda was surprised on the archery range. Bill was surprised in the generator shed. Mr. Christie was surprised by someone he knew. Alice, being he last one and discovering the others, was NOT surprised as to who is trying to kill her and probably not being a fighter by nature can only put up so much of a fight. And remember it is a proven fact that people who are crazy psychopaths tend to have more than normal human strength, so placing the victims in certain places wouldn't be that hard for her.

I don't care how much shock I'm in if I see somebody coming where to ask I'm not going to stand there and let them hit me in the face with it . None of the horror movies are real life based because we know nobody's going to stand there unless somebody hurt them or attack them with an ax we're also going to beat the crap out of somebody until we feel that they're dead or knocked out unlike in these movies where they hit them once and then they walk away

Here's the thing to know about the Friday The 13th movies as you continue watching them from this point on: They're not about the acting, they're not about the stories, they're not about making logical sense or continuity. All you need to be concerned about is how Jason comes back to life at the beginning of each one after part two, how he is killed at the end of each movie, and most important of all is how all of his victims are killed. That's what made these movies so popular was the inventive ways in which Jason kills. These movies are just made to gross you out and make you cheer for the bad guy. Slasher killers are like Marvel superheroes, they have special powers that make them invincible and all you want to do is watch them kick ass. So don't take them too seriously, and instead just sit back and enjoy the ride. Fun fact: When they made part four all the actors were so excited to be in the movie that they rushed up to the special effects supervisor Tom Savini and begged him to tell them how they were gonna be killed in the movie. That's how famous this series became for its inventive kills.

Back in the 1970-up to early 80s showing graphic violent kills of females (only aftermaths) on screen would make a rated R movie into NR or X rated film, unless the female is the killer, that's why all the graphic deaths were male. Even todays standards of movies an on screen death of a child is almost always an automatic rated R, depending on context... Trivia though the "ki ki ki ma ma ma" comes from an "echo in the woods" of "Kill ma"... Decapitation!!!! ya'll should do the cult horror classic Sleep Away Camp

In the 2nd film, they pull a retcon and establish that Jason actually didn't drown (and for whatever reason, never told his mom he was alive). He witnessed her decapitation at the hands of Alice, which is what turned him from a reclusive hillbilly mountain man into a serial killer.

There are twelve movies total when including the remake. After the first eight movies, New Line Cinema, the studio that owned "A Nightmare on Elm Street', bought the rights to the franchise. I'm not sure if it was their decision or a rights issue, but they didn't have "Friday the 13th" in the titles of their films. That's why theirs are called "Jason Goes to Hell", "Jason X", and "Freddy vs Jason". The remake was made by a different studio. I believe it was Platinum Dunes.

Even if you weren’t fond of this movie, it was done with a very limited budget, around $550,000. It wasn’t expected to be a hit. Betsy Palmer agreed to play the mother for $10,000 only because she needed a new car. She read the script and said “What a piece of shit!” But she went ahead with it because she thought nobody would ever see it, and she’d go completely unnoticed. Much of her career was spent Broadway and she was a classically trained actress. Decades later, she ended up embracing the movie and attending conventions for fans. I met her before she passed away. She was the sweetest and classiest lady ever.

In 1957, he supposedly died but he actually survived and started surviving in the woods. Of course the first year was rough, but when the camp was abandoned after his mother killed the 2 camp counselors and did the arson fires, Jason just moved into camp. And the 21 years surviving in the abandoned camp he learned how to survive off the land and learned survival tactics and only was afraid of people. In 1979, when Steve was starting the camp back up, Jason had to move back into the woods because Steve was renovating the camp. Pamela offered to work again with The Christy family in the camp as a cook. Pamela obviously has some type of mental illness which makes her hear her son's voice in her head and even saying out the voices in her head. Pamela at this time still doesn't know that Jason is alive and well at the age of 33. Pamela starts her killing spree and is killed by the last sole survivor, Alice Hardy. Alice says she saw Jason, but this obviously could be from the trauma she received during the whole incident. But Jason saw what Alice did, he saw what she did to his mother, the only person that truly loved him. So, except for being scared of strangers that enter the camp, he now gets angry at them and blames them for the death of his mother. And he has the same type of mental illness like his mother, Pamela. So he hears her voice in his head as well. 2 months after the murder spree, he tracks down Alice to seek revenge for his mother and kills Alice at her apartment. And he has the camp to himself again, but he still had the shack he built in the woods during the 5 years by himself after he killed Alice. I truly believe he didn't just come back to life, because it wouldn't make sense because of the timeline. He survived the lake and made his way to a shore after almost dying of drowning and he was forced to survive by himself. And that's why in the Friday the 13th part 2, he's 33 in the beginning and after he kills Alice, and 5 years pass, he is 38 when he starts killing the people that are close and in the wilderness that he made his home and he also hates them because he blames those type of people for the death of his mother. Including his mental illness of hearing Pamela's voice in his head telling him to murder the people.

Just so my thoughts here don't get pulled out of context if you choose to delete your post, I have copied/pasted it here for the future. "I truly believe he didn't just come back to life, because it wouldn't make sense because of the timeline." How does it make any sense that Jason survived and lived in the woods directly after almost drowning without anyone's knowledge, especially his own mother? How long was he under water before he came back up? I used to think this back when I was a teen in the 90s, but I came across the other idea that he did drown and the evil carried within his mother from what she was doing entered his corpse bringing him back. Which could make Jason's appearance at the end not a dream. If I may, where did you come up with your idea? Just curious.

@@LanceLustHugeTheWarningFan me looking at the reality of the timeline and the obvious simplicity of it. I know it starts get spiritual and shit when he gets resurrected in the Jason Lives movie, but it wont make sense for him to come back to life and in the span of 2 months and 5 years, grow into a full built male. If your theory is up to par, how tf did he grow his body in only 2 months into a full grown man and track down alice and kill her. Plus if he was a evil entity when he was alive, it didnt matter for him to build his shack and live off the land because he would be a undead zombie at this point, but he isnt, he’s a grown man, they even go into depth of the background of this in the remake in 2009, on how he lived off the land and survived. Your theory just doesnt come up to par with mine because mine seems much more realistic and practical while yours is more child like and stupid.

Your theory just doesnt come up to par with mine because mine seems much more realistic and practical while yours is more child like and stupid." How a boy survives drowning, builds a shack in the woods and survives every winter is such a better question than how a supernatural force could bring back a drowned child after his mother has been murdered, bringing him back as a full grown man. The fact that Jason has been living in the woods since before the movie's opening makes more sense to you? That is your right to have such an opinion. To me, a little boy who almost drowns at a summer camp but doesn't try making his way back home seems to make much less sense than my thoughts. You seem to project too many inferences that aren't really there. You state the remake as we're regarding the first and second movies. I'm not discussing the remake because that is its own entity. If you were to take mine, or, rather, the person who directed "Never Hike Alone" creator's thoughts, you wouldn't need to make sense because evil bringing a drowned child back to life once his mother has been murdered doesn't need to make sense. Makes a lot more sense than a child building his own home in the woods at such an age as he was just after almost drowning, and choosing not to find his mother, whom you claim he does see murdered, then goes on a killing spree afterwards...? The end of the original movie shows Jason coming back to life, and I believe Jason's body looked like a teen, thus giving five years, a boy that age could grow into an adult looking man. Why not? It's much more plausible than the story Ginny makes in part 2. Your opinion. We needn't get into an argument regarding this. It's fiction. Not real, you see. Any interpretation is okay. "I know it starts get spiritual and shit when he gets resurrected in the Jason Lives movie, but it wont make sense for him to come back to life and in the span of 2 months and 5 years, grow into a full built male." Why? Because you said so? If Jason can be resurrected in the first place, my thoughts seem to align pretty well with the story. And for a child with a handicap like Jason's, I think he'd need help to survive.

Messed up fact about the snake: it wasn't a prop. It was a real snake that was borrowed from an animal handler, who had it as a pet, and wasn't told it would be killed. Also in the Kevin Bacon scene, they had 1 take and it malfunctioned, so makeup assistant Taso Stavrakis manually blew the blood through the tube. Now that's dedication.
