The lorry chassis was a Bedford TL from the early 80's. My father's first job in England, after his National Service, was with Bedford Vans (a subsidiary of General Motors/Vauxhall) in Luton. There's an old WW2 camp not far from mine, poking around it one day I walked into the old common room, looking to take a photo of the old upright piano, thinking about all those old time songs sung by boys that possibly never came back again, mind on camera settings in the dim interior, when an unspotted bloody big barn owl with a six foot wingspan took off from a bracket on the far wall and flew out of a broken window. I have never crapped myself so much in my life. Owl gone, total chicken left behind 😬

@@paulcomptonpdphotography I'm sure there were a few expletives. The annoying thing is if I'd spotted the owl it would have made a great shot ...

What a great place to visit. Very interesting video and i remember watching Gary's video. It's good to see that it hasn't been all knocked down as it is part of our history. Great image's as usual mate. Look forward to the next one.

@PaulComptonPDphotography l have seen old defences around Dover Castle, some of these are pretty well known though. Where I live in Kent most defensive sites are now museums or inaccessible tunnels.

Only my opinion but what a hideous carbuncle on the landscape that place is and at the same time a great reminder of what we are doing to the world we live in. Wouldn't you think the authorities would show some responsibility and bulldoze the site and return it to how it was prior to the base being built. I can see how some people would find it interesting but it's not for me Paul. Then again I am a traditionalist when it comes to photography.
