My dad used to pull a 26ft chris craft cabin cruiser with his 1878 half ton two wheel drive with no problem, it didn't even sag in the back. Trucks were made a little more heavy duty back then. This guy isn't hurting a thing

How do you know it's not safe? Faded paint isn't unsafe. There's no trailer attached to that loose ball. Maybe it's been loose since 1995, 3 owners ago, and never used since the second owner tried to remove it and gave up when dinner was ready.😂

Those antique plates have a lot of restrictions on them. Yes they do eliminate your need to have the vehicle inspected but they also restrict the use to parades, car shows or educational functions. You cannot use them for daily transportation and I'm fairly certain that towing would also be out unless it's some kind of equally vintage trailer. So this is another owner gaming the system.

In Virginia if a car registered as an antique is driven more than 12 miles in a year it is supposed to be inspected. There's simply no way to enforce the rule though, so nobody gets them inspected

It's also about beating the state out of registration fees. In some states with these plates there is no renewal costs but you also can't use the vehicle for daily transportation, for that, go get a regular plate.

I have never seen this 12 mile stipulation in Virginia; there is a self-inspection and certification requirement. Can you cite your source? The DMV notes that one can drive a registered antique for the occasional pleasure driving, not to exceed 250 miles from your residence, or further if participating in antique car club activities, exhibits, tours, parades and similar events. You may not use your vehicle for general, daily transportation. This includes, but is not limited to, driving to and from work.
