I was 18 when this came out. I was a senior in High School. My family owned a roller skating rink (1971-2009) I would DJ there most of my life. This was a highly requested song for couples song when it came out. And even after it's popularity dwindled from radio airplay. I'm 51 now and this song is still amazing. The lyrics. The story it tells. Still relevant today.

Dan has remained active as a songwriter. Writing for other artists. According to Wikipedia he is working on a new album of material. My three favorite love song writers would be: Lionel Richie, Dan Hill, and Jim Peterik. Peterik has stayed extremely active as a songwriter. Writing a large number of songs in the past two decades. Peterik just released a new love song a few months ago, called "All That's Mine to Give".

"Start the music, light the candles, renew our vows in lace and sandles. Those same two kids, trembling at the alter, are standing strong and tall.". - From the Pride of Lions song of Everlasting Love. Today's love songs by older artists and groups are written by people who have been married for decades like the man who wrote that song, Jim Peterik (formerly of Survivor). Another great love song co-written by him, with that theme of a longtime love, is One Lifetime is Not Enough. There are others: like After All These Years by Journey, etc.

It's amazing how songs like this amazing masterpiece hit the heart and soul so hard after you've experienced situations like the situations described in the lyrics in your own life and know exactly how it feels (and/or felt) to experience them. Give me songs like this about real love and emotion than the trash called today's popular music that clogs the airwaves any day

I worked in the radio business from 1985-2019. I started on an AM station that still played Top 40 hita until 1987, when the company launched a Top 40 FM station and moved switched the AM to soft rock (Adult Contemporary) to target an older audience. For a time, the AM station did very well with soft rock. I did afternoons on that station and this song reminds me of being on the radio playing songs like this that would prove to be legendary.
