Yes, Antiochus IV Epiphanes fits the description of the little horn in Daniel 8:9-12 in several key ways, based on historical events and his actions during his reign over the Seleucid Empire (one of the four divisions of the Greek Empire). Let's break down how Antiochus IV aligns with this passage: Daniel 8:9-12 Text Summary Verse 9: The little horn grows exceedingly great toward the south, east, and the Glorious Land (Israel). Verse 10: It grows up to the host of heaven, casts down some of the host and stars, and tramples them. Verse 11: The little horn exalts itself against the Prince of the host, removes the daily sacrifice, and desecrates the sanctuary. Verse 12: Because of transgression, the host and the daily sacrifice are given over to the horn, and it throws truth to the ground and prospers. How Antiochus IV Fits Daniel 8:9-12 1. Geographical Expansion (Daniel 8:9) Daniel 8:9 says the little horn grows "exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land." Antiochus IV Epiphanes expanded his influence in these regions: South: Antiochus campaigned against Egypt (Ptolemaic Kingdom), notably during the Sixth Syrian War (170-168 BC), trying to assert dominance over Egypt. East: He sought control over regions east of his empire, dealing with threats in Persia and Armenia. Glorious Land: The "Glorious Land" refers to Israel (Judah), which was under his control during his reign. He aggressively imposed Hellenistic culture on the Jewish people, leading to the Maccabean Revolt. 2. Persecution of the Jews (Daniel 8:10) Daniel 8:10 describes the little horn casting down the host of heaven and trampling some of the stars. The host of heaven and stars are often interpreted symbolically as God’s people (the Jews) or spiritual leaders. Antiochus persecuted the Jewish people harshly, killing many who resisted his policies. He executed Jews who refused to follow his Hellenistic religious reforms and desecrated the temple. 1 Maccabees (a historical book) records how Antiochus attacked and slaughtered many Jews, which fits the trampling of the stars (leaders) and the host (people). 3. Desecration of the Temple and Abolishment of Sacrifices (Daniel 8:11) Daniel 8:11 says the little horn "exalted itself as high as the Prince of the host" (a reference to God or a high priest), took away the daily sacrifices, and desecrated the sanctuary. Antiochus IV famously desecrated the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem: In 168 BC, he set up an altar to Zeus in the Jewish temple, known as the “abomination of desolation” (referred to in Daniel 11:31). He prohibited the Jews from offering their regular daily sacrifices (the "tamid") to Yahweh. He sacrificed a pig on the altar, further defiling the temple according to Jewish law. Antiochus also claimed divine honors, giving himself the title "Epiphanes", which means "God manifest." 4. Throwing Truth to the Ground (Daniel 8:12) Daniel 8:12 states that the little horn "threw truth to the ground" and prospered in its endeavors. Antiochus IV actively sought to suppress the Jewish faith, which he saw as an obstacle to his goal of unifying his empire under Greek culture and religion (Hellenism). He outlawed Jewish religious practices, including circumcision, Sabbath observance, and the study of the Torah. He ordered Jewish scriptures to be destroyed. He attempted to replace Jewish monotheism with Hellenistic paganism, forcing Jews to abandon their faith. His policies led to significant Jewish persecution and suffering, and for a time, his agenda appeared to prosper, though it ultimately led to rebellion (the Maccabean Revolt). Historical Fit of Antiochus IV Epiphanes The historical events surrounding Antiochus IV's reign align well with Daniel 8:9-12: Geographical Expansion: His military campaigns in Egypt (south), Persia (east), and his control over Israel (Glorious Land). Persecution: His brutal suppression of the Jewish people and their leaders (trampling the host of heaven and stars). Temple Desecration: His defilement of the temple in Jerusalem, abolishing Jewish sacrifices, and exalting himself as a divine figure. Suppressing Truth: His efforts to eliminate Jewish religious practices and force Hellenistic religion upon the Jewish population. Why Antiochus IV Fits Better than Other Interpretations The timing of Antiochus IV's actions, particularly in the 2nd century BC, corresponds with the events described in Daniel 8. The Greek origin of the little horn in Daniel 8 (from one of the four horns of Alexander the Great’s empire) also matches Antiochus IV, who was a ruler of the Seleucid Empire, one of the four divisions of Alexander’s empire. The literal desecration of the temple and the halting of Jewish sacrifices during Antiochus’ reign perfectly fits the prophecy in Daniel 8:11, unlike other interpretations that attempt to apply this to later events, such as the Roman Empire or the Papacy. Conclusion: Antiochus IV Epiphanes fits the description in Daniel 8:9-12 very closely based on his actions in history: His military expansion toward the south, east, and Israel, His persecution of the Jews, His desecration of the Jewish temple, And his attempt to suppress Jewish religious truth. Therefore, he is widely regarded by scholars as the fulfillment of the little horn prophecy in Daniel 8, distinct from the little horn of Daniel 7, which arises from the Roman Empire.

Antiochus was hardly to be considered great let alone very great and definitely not exceeding great like the little horn of Daniel 8 is referred to. The key to understanding the little horn of Daniel 8 is to study the little horn of Daniel 7 for it is the same power. Rome is the 4th beast of Daniel 7, Rome divided into 10 kingdoms and the Vatican papacy uprooted 3 of those kingdoms and ruled for a time times and half a time, that is 1260 prophetic years. Antiochus does not fit.

If you believe that the little horn arose from one of the four horns, which of the four was it? Was it Ptolemaic Kingdom? The Seleucid Empire? The Kingdom of Macedon? Or the Kingdom of Lysimachus? If you believe that it arose out of one of the four winds, can you show me any other horn or body part that is just floating around unattached to an animal or beast? And how is it that the Little Horn in Daniel 7 is the Papacy, but now in Daniel 8 it is both Rome, the horrible fourth beast in Daniel 7, and the Papacy? Can you show me anywhere else in biblical prophecy where a beast and a horn or other body part later become combined in another prophecy?

Awful…wasn’t taught anything except not to work on Saturday’s and was baptized right away, and no answer when asked them what baptism is. Then sent on front line! Hell broke loose and didn’t know how to read the Bible since nothing but KJV was allowed, so not understood a word. Lamb to the wolves!
