Daniel San’s Kata in Cobra Kai

The Kata performed by Daniel Larusso in Cobra Kai is called Seiyunchin, and it comes from the Okinawa Karate style called Goju Ryu. Although the show is awesome the Kata performance by Daniel San were horrible and mixed with other katas from different styles. Here is what the Kata is supposed to look like... straight from Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Do.

I was so happy when i learned that the iarate style in cobra kai was the one i have been learning for 9 years:okinawan goju-ryu even tho the techniques are a bit off on the show its still great i noticed when i saw daniel doing seiunchin and miyagi being the decendant of the founder(chōjun miyagi)

In season 4 I noticed he's doing Bassai Dai and Chatan Yara Kusanku. I'm not sure if any of the Okinawan styles have Bassai in them but it def makes me want to research more.

@@austinkaratecenter9480 Shito Ryu has Bassai. It's HQ is now in mainland Japan, but the founder, Mabuni Kenwa is from Okinawa, the style originates from there. He trained togather with Miyagi Chojun, they both learnt Naha style karate (Naha-te) from Higaonna Kanryō. Miyagi sensei went full Naha and founded Goju Ryu, while Kenwa sensei also learnt Shuri style karate (Shuri-te) from Itosu Ankō. He than founded Shito Ryu (names after sensei Itosu and sensei Higaonna) and teaches both Naha and Shuri style katas.

Is the kata supposed to be aggressive like you show or slow, focused and passive like Daniel-san and Miyagi in the movies. I'm getting like a balanced sort of vibe from it all in that there should be a balance between the two. Any feedback would be appreciated. If you watch the Karate Kid 3 kata I feel that is more accurate than what the Cobra Kai series presents.

You are correct @ Ikester D. Goju Katas are supposed to have both aggressive and soft movements in them. "Go"Means Hard, "Ju" means soft, so you can see both are needed in this style. But many styles have the same principals.

This isn't Daniel's kata, this is the real-life kata that Daniel's was mostly based on. I liked the video but the title is misleading. It's missing many components that we see in the show.

Pero los katas dan algo, memoria muscular, por lo que en una situacion real te permitiran ejecutar movimientos mucho mas eficientes y efectivos. Ademas de los beneficios mentales que tambien te beneficiaran en pelea, y equilibrio.

@@Juan88979 Por eso lo que Lee manifiesta es que son movimientos estéticos muy bonitos , pero en la calle " pones agua en una tetera y es la tetera , pones agua en un vaso y es el vaso y el agua hierve , fluye , gotea , estalla !!!!!! se como el agua amigo ...se agua " . tienes que moldearte ante una situación prevista o imprevista si te limitas a ciertos movimientos estás simplemente eso , limitandote .

Correct. This style is Goju Ryu which originates off the small island of Okinawa. Shotokan comes from Japan. We study Shotokan as well. No discrimination when it comes to styles.
