For years I just used colors recommended by my instructor and a few colors I became curious over that I saw in my local store. Then I fell down the rabbit hole of watching watercolor videos on youtube.... So many colors so little time. I haven't been happy with raw sienna or yellow so far. I end up mixing it with something. Maybe I will try either one of these. I really like the glow of natural sienna. Tfs.

i definitely went through that stage myself … the rabbit hole of watching watercolour youtube vids (probably still in that stage 🤣). ohh im glad this vid has given u some ideas for other alternatives 🥰❤️

so many people are fond of DS Transparent Red Oxide and Brown Oxide, but you're the only person I've seen that talks about liking their Yellow Oxide! I like the glowy feel of the Natural Sienna here, which looks really beautiful in dilution.

yes! i’ve successfully lured danny out of hiding with a DS video! 😁🤣 jk, nice to see you again 🥰 wait, no one else likes transparent yellow oxide? but it’s such a nice colourrrrr 😆
@dannychen10642 жыл бұрын
@@PaintinHiding lol I'm way better at hiding than you! I just don't see anybody mentions this yellow oxide while I see red and brown oxide are mentioned frequently for their mixing ability and granulation. maybe because it's close to a yellow ochre? but you seem to be very happy with it :)

I literally didn't even know DS had one! And MG's is sooo ugly.

@@dannychen1064 you sure are! 🤣🤣! now that i think about it, i dont think i’ve seen many speak of trans yellow oxide either. that’s interesting~
@rayne67372 жыл бұрын
I have both. I keep thinking I ought to have one or the other for space reasons. However, I prefer Monte Amiata on it's own and like it over Yellow Ocher and I like Transparent Oxide for mixing so there is the reason I still haven't taken one of them out yet.
@PaintinHiding2 жыл бұрын
ah yesss~ i think i understand you. there was a time where i had transparent yellow oxide and one of the light versions of raw umber and felt like i needed to choose one or the other. took me a while before i realised… “why cant i have both?” haha🤣 thank you so much for watching and commenting! 🥰
@ifatflower2 жыл бұрын
I like both of them a lot😍. I can't choose between them. They both have luminosity, but with the Yellow Oxide it makes it more crisp, and with Monte Amiata it makes it more radiant🌟
@PaintinHiding2 жыл бұрын
yes! i think because even though they are different, they're basically the same yellow earth colour when put into a palette. only one or the other is needed, not both ;P

Nice comparison. Both of these colors are lovely.

thank you so much! definitely, these comparisons make me appreciate each colour's uniqueness more.

Thank you for introducing these two nice colors to us. They are quite nice. For earthy kind of colours I use Qor. Their earth colours are incredible rich and have a very high tinting strength, great for mixing.
@PaintinHiding Жыл бұрын
Qor is waaay out of my price range but i'll keep that in mind for if and whenever i spot a sale! do you have a yellow earth and red earth favourite from Qor that you'd like to recommend?
@halichummel2918 Жыл бұрын
@@PaintinHiding Hi, great you spottet a sale. As always it's a matter of taste and the palette one is using. If you have a palette with strong colours, the Qor would fit quite nicely. I would consider the transparent yellow ochre or transparent yellow oxide (I use that). You might take a look at transparent brown oxide and raw Sienna. Absolutely gorgeous are the burnt umber and raw umber. All these colours are great for mixing. I hope this is helpful to you.

@@halichummel2918 i tend to prefer trans yellow oxide too! yay! i'll note down the rest, thank you! :D

I really like the Daniel Smith TYO. It’s so much better than the annoyingly weak and difficult to rewet Rembrandt version.
@PaintinHiding2 жыл бұрын
yay! i'm glad you agree :D roman szmal's version is just as weak so no need to try that one.

Thanks for this comparison! You used a term I'm not familiar with. What is the finger effect?
@PaintinHiding2 жыл бұрын
you're welcome! the finger effect, i'm not sure if it's a formal term but i've heard some other watercolour youtubers say it. it's basically what you see happen with the DS transparent oxide yellow in this video here where the paint moves in a way that it doesn't create backwash or blooms but instead it looks like fingers. hope that makes sense. thanks for watching and commenting 🥰
