More time for some good wine. 🍷🫶 One of my favorite races of yours showing your grit, was in 2010, where you won ITU World Championship in Seoul. It was a crazy sprint finish. So many gritty races after that. 🙌 Full respect on your decision. Here’s to you, Daniela! 🍾🥂

You are still my inspiration!!! I have been suffering buttock/coccyx pain for awhile. Was a big power walker and bike rider. All that had to stop. Still on the daily journey to heal my body. It takes time to adjust and heal. Please keep the videos coming…..your mental and physical learnings from this injury can help so many people. You are strong and are rebounding to a new chapter with many new achievements. Look forward to upcoming videos! Enjoy your sabbatical!

I followed you for several years and am sorry to hear that you are not able to retire without injuries. It would be nice to retire from a sport as cyclist Grace Brown did, a world champion, but sports does not always work out the way we would like it to. Thanks for the inspiration and as a fan, I wish you the best in your post-racing life.

Thanks for opening up to us Daniela - I’m sure it was very difficult / emotional to do but perhaps it allowed some verbalisation of something you have experienced. Perhaps the goal is being the best version of yourself whatever that may be… Both a hug and you need to have a massive party! Perhaps just after nice! 😊

Can't she take a break from racing & come back for 1 more when she's healed? I guess she has to do what's best for her especially with all these other athletes also getting stronger but it's tough for us to accept after watching her after all these years. I danced around clicking on this video since it came out because I wasn''t ready to hear the news. I wish her all the best & am so grateful for her inspiring me to try my first sprint triathlon while being overweight. Even running at only 6mins/km I pictured how I need to push myself like her. Same when I ran my first Comrades (90km run), I remembered her resilience & the fight she has in her to help push me through the times it was tough. Thank you Daniela the GOAT & God bless you with good healing & a happy future, from South Africa!

Daniela, your sports life, and life in general, has only just begun. Being a professional sportist is a huge sacrifice, now things start, observation and learning from a completely different perspective. Now you can finally stop without a stopwatch and smell a flower along the road you are running on. Now you, your partner and family come first. No regrets. You deserved to get to this moment. You deserve to be just at the beginning of your life, already a legend and a role model. No regrets, because freedom is here. Freedom and time that is now only yours. You run when you want and where you want, swim and ride a bike wherever you want without feeling like you're wasting time. Professional sport is a matrix that captures us. You gave him everything, now you take everything. Don't have any regret. FREEDOM, Daniela.

I'm a big fan of you. And I have a lot of race experiences with you, such as 2014 IM 703 World Champ. in Mont. Tremblant, you are the CHAMPION. Then 2015 in KONA, it's my first time to be there, you got the champion again. In 2017, it's my second time to KONA, I witness you winning the CHAMPION. You are the legend in my mind for sure. Please keep in inspiring everyone in this sport. While recuperating, you can write a book to share more of you. We all believe that your chapters are not finished yet.

The body is the one to listen to, the head often misinforms us. It would of course be great to finish on your terms. This year has been difficult but you had a great run at it, only need to look at previous year when once again you raised the bar in triathlon at Roth. Enjoy next adventure. And keep enjoying those amazing places you train in.

It must be bad to take out the GOAT. I remember when she got stung multiple times by a jellyfish down her side. She said that she thought about quitting but couldn’t. She was thinking about all of the little girls that looked up to her. She came out of the swim 10 minutes down behind Lucy Charles. She caught and passed Lucy on the way back from Hawi. She looked like she had super powers that day. This was my first year in triathlon. I want to thank you for such an exciting time. You are the GOAT. I’m happy for you, for whatever you choose next.

OK, this is an announcement that I have to write something about. First of all, it's a heartbreaking video. A farewell. Eyes full of emotions. Real words of a retirement, that for sure still feel surreal. What kind of moment is this? Certainly a moment of relief. Certainly a moment of deep sadness. Certainly a moment of starting to be ready for something new. A REAL great career comes to an end. A REAL komplex personality in our sport leaves the big stage of her huge sporting life. A long, long applause erupts. And where the protagonists usually bow on stage, WE bow and say THANK YOU for the show. WHAT A SHOW! WHAT A FANTASTIC SHOW! And then, after a floating moment of silence, back on the streets on our way home, we begin to realize that this was really the last finish-line. And after a while, like after every finish-line, we start to change memories, we start to celebrate and we start to honor our heroines for their passion, their hard work, their inspiration and the wonderful dose of adrenaline, that keeps us going to our own finish-lines. THANK YOU Daniela, it was a real pleasure what an exciting character you brought to our sport and gave it to all of us. Now it's on you to take a deep breath. There is the smell of freedom in the air! And listen... Long, long applause erupts!

Inflammation of the base of spinal cord. Wow that's a super interesting injury. Wonder what causes that? And has there been any other athletes who have managed to heal it and come back from it? It also kinda sounds of like the start of a coccyx stress fracture if that area is inflamed?? 🤔 Anyway, you are still the best!! Enjoy your time to relax and enjoy life 😊
