Best chipping video on KZbin! I play on a links course with hugely tight lies everywhere. I was struggling badly chunking everything which was ruining my game. This technique as simple as it seems has totally changed everything! Suddenly I’m able to cosy the ball up to the flag for one putts no problem! Gone are my fears of chipping over bunkers, tight lies etc, I am now a chipping god! Haha. Even completely bare lies with no grass at all are no problem. I can’t thank you enough!

Hey Danny, this is a really great video and super easy to understand. I started on the Mickelson "hinge & hold" technique and videos, and was using that for the last year. But your technique in this video really simplifies it and allows me to be much more consistent with either really flat surfaces or wet surfaces where you can chunk it if your shot is not perfect. You're the best, man!

I have watched a lot of vlogs on chipping and this is by far the best one I have seen. I have been taught to keep a glove under my left armpit when I practice to keep the club close into my body and induce turn. I think Justin Rose tucks his shirt sleeve under his armpit to do the same. Do you recommend this as a training aide? Thank you.

it certainly helps keep the lead arm connected, not sure how much benefit it has with getting the correct ground contact but with any drill try iy out and if you find it helps stick with it. If it doesn't discard it

Great. I play all chips similar to this, that is I hold the club even more upright and play it with the toe, with putting grip, using a relaxed swing similar to a put with some hinge as you describe it. And I play most of the time with iron8/9/PW gripping down a bit. This way I have reduced mishits dramatically. I see most high and mid HC players struggling with SW. Different story for good players of course. Cheers, Peter

Danny, thanks for your prompt reply. Since I always have doubt about what club to use and ball positions from green side fringe areas, I really look forward to your new lesson. I have one question regarding a previous lesson regarding set up for senior golfers. In the lesson you suggest dropping the back foot (right) and opening the foot slightly in order to achieve better hip turn and power storage on the back swing. I've had a left knee replacement and I was wondering if having the left foot "closed" would put an undue amount of pressure on the left knee. Trust me, I am certainly not looking for you to give medical advice, but rather just your thoughts on the matter. Thanks very much, and please keep up the good work!

I recently played with a scratch golfer. He saw me struggling around the greens, either hitting fat or thins shots. He said the same thing you are saying. He said take some practice swings brushing the grass and use the bounce of the wedge. My distance control was better and I actually put some spin on the ball. It really works and I have more confidence now. My question is; is this how you put spin on approach shots with lower lofted clubs. I couldn't believe how this golfer can dial in distances. I always heard to hit down on the ball. That's not using the bounce of the club, right?
@DanielMaude4 жыл бұрын
Very different, you use the bounce with the wedge as you lay it back for loft. For your irons you deloft the club for power

Danny, Great video. Is the distance the ball goes the result of just gravity, or are you helping a bit? Thanks, I learn much from your work. From Naples, Florida

Airbus Pilot you can give it a little help on the way too, how much to give is just down to experimenting

Danny: Great video instruction! Thanks. Two questions: 1) Do you use this same technique if chipping just off the green? Are you using a lob wedge (60 degrees) to do your chipping?

Dennis Knepper, absolutely, this is what it’s meant for...

I’d say 56 degree, 60 degree too risky? Or is it less? If u use 56 degree and have club more upright...toe is only part of club which brushes ground?

So Danny, this chipping looks just like a mini drive you would do with your iron. Am I correct?

Great practical advice Danny as always. For these ‘bare lie’ chips what club were you using and, in particular, what bounce angle?

This was my 56 degree sand wedge with 10 degree bounce

Hi Danny, i have a 54 degree with 14 degrees of bounce, using your method would to much bounce(for tight lies) bring the leading edge into play?(Is 14 degrees to much off tight lies?) Btw i'm assuming you have standard 10 degrees of bounce on your 56? Also would you call this method similar to Steve Stricker, Jason Day's etc method? In essence you're saying adopt a shallow AoA thus making contact with the sole of the club not the leading edge. I've noticed that some 56/60 wedges go as low as 4 degrees of bounce and up to 14 degrees, could you explain where each type might be best used? (perhaps a video), could you explain .Thanks... Subbed.
