Danya didn’t mention it, but black has a pretty sharp option in the main line after 8. exd5 O-O 9. O-O Bg4. Curious what his recommendation is here as black scores very well here, and is recommended by Jan Gustafsson.

I won't call it sharp, its just forcing draw the quickest way. After f3 Bh5,Qd4+ with Bxc3 coming and Qxc6 everything simplifies and you can instatly agree to a draw. This opening makes sense for white if they are fine with draw and maybe slightly pressing.

Okay, so he goes e5. Now a lot of people here would just lazily develop the knight to f3, but we actually have a move here that poses a lot of practical problems for black and is borderline winning for white. The move is Ke2, and do not worry I will explain this more thoroughly after the game. Now you might look at this position and say, 'isn't this weakening our king and blocking in our pieces?' And while that may be true, you guys need to start thinking long term. In the endgame, it will be a huge advantage to have our king activated in the center. Furthermore, black has no threats here, his bishops are biting on granite - he is not going to checkmate us any time soon, our king is perfectly well defended on e2. Now he does have a nasty little defensive resource he can try here, let's see if he finds it. Wow, Ke7 he finds it. This guy is good. Now guys, I don't wanna hear any baseless accusations, we will check with an engine after the game. It's not unthinkable that a 1500 finds this move. No black has not equalized, we just need to play clinically to secure our advantage.

@@connormonday That's just how people play 10|0 games online in general. They treat it as if it were some kind of 3|0 game where you have a "get out of jail free card" for taking their time on one move or two and playing the rest of the game at blazing fast speed without thinking. In other words 10 minute games without increment are just glorified blitz... it's why i also agree that 15|10 is the superior online chess time control as the quality of the games is always much higher

This is why I really wish more people played 15+10 games. While you may still make mistakes, you at least invest more time behind “blind” moves That said, I’ve fallen out of chess practice myself. But sometimes a break away is nice (1515 as of now)

I think it really depends on your level, of course 15+15 is good in a general sense of improvement, but for an 1800+ a blitz game can be decently deep, if analyzed afterwards, without the time constraints that a "long" rapid game would put. I enjoy playing 10+0 at least once a week though, to not fall for the superficiality of blitz.

What exactly dictates an inaccuracy? Obviously the top move is the most accurate move, does that mean anything less, even the second top move is an inaccuracy? Or does a move have to lose you some amount of advantage to be considered an inaccuracy?

I am writing this during the game on minute 4:27 and wondering why he didnt pick up the free knight. Did he actually miss the Tactical Idea of Rook Takes e5 bishop h7+ picking up the undefended Queen? Okay fair enough. After 1.e5 dxe5 2.fxe5 Qd4 he pressures the Bishop and at least doesent lose the full Knight but then just Bxf6 gxf6 and fxf6 and the game is totally over. Black is a Pawn up and not only that but the Kingside is also totally shattered and the extra Pawn of White controls g7. The game seems completely over at that point. So what didnt he like about the Move? I think he actually missed that Bh2 winning the Queen tactically defends e5 another time.

You knows what’s nuts about GM’s that fact that you noticed that D6 is an inaccurate move and then proceeded to create an attack which directly exploits that weakness. It’s mind boggling and massively impressive.

These games against players up to 2000+ suggest that it's only when players get to 2200 that they actually think about their moves, rather than play largely on instinct. Here we have a 2050 player makes a couple of serious mistakes and has a completely lost position after 13 moves, having used on 40s on their clock. It's the same in almost all these games, with Danya's opponents bashing out the moves quickly, with only superficial analysis, and only starting to think once they are lost. Maybe it's just blitz chess, but it's difficult to believe that so many strong players blunder into a lost position using very little time on their clock.

I had previously assumed that this system was fairly innocuous for Black to face (and maybe it is at higher levels), but this video and your great explanations convinced me that Black can indeed face considerable practical difficulties in this line.

36:01 This is a very memorable position from Gary Kasparov vs Deep Blue 1996 Game 5. Kasparov managed to get a good position out of the opening as black; and I always wondered why Bh4 maintaining the pin wasn't played by deep blue. Shocking. As I never thought g5 would be good for black.

I do not have a good way to count desperado trades. When you were evaluating the pin line where black goes bg4 to threaten whites queen on f3. The proper move is take knight, they take queen, you take queen. Is there a technique to make keeping track of those desperado trades?
