Got recommended this and as a Caro Kann-oisseur, this is a great watch. My favorite Qb6 idea is as a response to the fantasy variation right after f3 is played, where if you face the best engine move (Nc3) you can get a triangle structure with e6 and against any other move on move 4, you get e5 and if they take with the d pawn, the fun really kicks off after you play Bf5

I'm a lower rated player, and I actually got faced against someone who tried to play e5 as Black on Move 3 against my Fantasy Variation, going for Bc5. That was a dubious line. I didn't know that at the time, so after 3. ...e5 4. dxe5 Bc5, I went for Nc3, and after Qb6, I went for Na4 with a fork. Turns out, I refuted his line by accident! ;D Unfortunately, the person was *not* a good sport. After playing some more moves, he pulled a Kramnik, accused me of cheating without evidence. When I explained my moves he told me to shut up and threatened to ban my account. He gave a spite check and resigned. We blocked each other and moved on with our day. After that game, I analyzed with the engine and found out that the e5 move was in fact dubious. I have since memorized that line till Move 14 to 15, and defeated everybody who dared play that line against me.

I love this series and am really enjoying the format and instruction. I do think it was kind of interesting how he pointed out Nc3 is not great in this situation because it blocks the c pawn from c3 or c4, but in the previous game where he played white against the Caro Kann, he never ended up playing c3 or c4, and instead ended up playing Nc3. I get it that the other game wasn't an exchange variation and the Nc3 move happened much later, I was just surprised because that part of the previous lesson stuck with me, and then here he's pointing out how Nc3 is a bad idea.

It’s a great feeling when you see the position for the first time, your first instinct is “oh just go Bd3, add extra pressure to the knight” which he didn’t think about at first and then when someone in chat suggested it, he reevaluated and thinks it’s a great move as well and ends up playing it. So it seems to me that, when Danya talks about trapping the bishop on h4, it is severely weakening to black's king. He says he doesn't think white has any way to exploit the weakness of black's king. How is he evaluating that? Just the fact that black has so many pieces around the king to defend? There're no good checks? White's pieces aren't placed very well? While I agree with and trust Danya, I'm just trying to understand the logic of why black isn't in danger. 16:07 for reference.
@alfiewright13962 жыл бұрын
Well in the weak King scenario you are up a Bishop so that is a lot of compensation. I guess you can play King h8 and have an open file for your rook on h7. Black has no dark squared Bishop or any easy checks on the weak diagonal. And yes lots of defensive pieces Am only 1400 so very likely i am wrong though

@DanielNaroditskyGM2 жыл бұрын
Basically, pseudo-activity means fake activity, it refers to moves that look like they're active and accomplish a lot, but in reality accomplish very little. In the context of the video, pushing White's kingside pawns looks active and intimidating, but in reality creates a ton of weaknesses and is easily parried by moving the bishop back.
