This. Im a beginner, but have been messing around with it without really understanding it (not intentionally, just trying to teach myself which isn't necessarily ideal) and this video blew my mind. It really captures just how versatile it truly is, and also shows why I've been having some trouble without any guidance; there's just so much to it, and it isn't all intuitive for a beginner. Having Danya explain these concepts in such detail is such a good resource. This didn't make me a better KID player; it made me a better chess player.

52:11 I found this position fascinating, so I went through it with stockfish. Engine found here f5, and idea is if black takes with bishop you can bring out the knight safely. Also engine has several refuting options through the attack, and he estimates original position as equal.

In the line you didn't play, c5 d5 b5, either at this move or the next white can go d6. Black will go Qa5+. A number of lines get black having to capture the pawn on e7 with his king and castling by hand. Interesting lines.

Playing Benko style is very potent against some versions of the 4 pawns attack in the Kings Indian, but the positions are really wild.

Just look at the board at the 6:36 mark of the video. White has all 4 minor pieces developed, and control of the center with 2 pawns on the 4th rank. Danya has only 2 pieces developed and no pawns on the 4th rank. By all accounts this favors white, but yet Danya demolishes him in the end.

Bf4 lines are very common (and not very dangerous) in the Grunfeld. d5 rather than d6 after Nc3 would have lead to an interesting more Grunfeld style game.

Swear I was thinking in my head the better piece between the bishop and the knight ... I know the bishop is relatively better, but the knight is a monster in time pressure or pressure in general as we saw the opponent hang his queen as probably, he forgot that the knight could go backward.

I hate the gruenfeld at this level bc everyone plays kf3 and i have to revert to the kings indian I commented that on the reddit threads, and this video is a great example lol. KI feels so passive, i generally dislike being forced into it. Benoni is okay

Black is never forced to revert to the king’s indian in the Grunfeld, if they play Nc3 after Nf3 Bg7 you can play d5. Even in the game Danya could have played c5 or d5 instead of castling immediately
