Just for reference on e4 e5, this speedrun, Danya has played the Vienna only once. He has tried playing the 4 Knight's Scotch 4 times, but has yet to reach it Danya has faced c5 8 times, c6 4 times, e6 2 times, and d5 2 times. The other first moves against e4 have been reached once: d6, g6, b6.

@@tarunlilley I'm almost positive he uploaded it, but I can't seem to find it. (Maybe he deleted it or maybe I just watched it live) It was around when he was 1450. Funny, had a guy play both the real and delayed Latvian against me last night OTB. Won both games, but the first one was mostly me stumbling around blindly. Intuitively played d4 against the delayed though, so I'm proud of my intuition :)

39:55 another interesting detail is qh4 doesn't work for black even though it looks like it might. Qe2 is brilliant, saccing the knight on d4 could lead to mate in 2, or even prettier... bd3 still saccing the knight on d4 but Bg5 and the queen is trapped!

Really did demonstrate blasting open the centre. I usually try to develop my pieces first and often by then it's too late to get a decisive attack. Have to say I'm a tad disappointed that I started learning first the Kings indian which you then switched to the granted and the vienna which you've only managed to play once heh. I know the vienna is less effective at this level but that would be just as helpful as then we could go despertar in theory and see what to do if your opponent plays all the right moved which my opponents do sometimes at 1700. Hope that didn't sound whiny I can't appreciate enough all that you do. I went to a chess club for the first time since my school days, placed against literal children and lost two and drew one so I feel like I got a real adultos chess otb experience all thanks to you and Eric rosen T.T Heheh thanks danya you rock never stop!

once in my early chess days, i wanted to surprise my opponent on move two, after e4e5 nf3. i played f5, i didnt know it exist, but it makes sense from the perspektive, that it challenged the center. I won that game and since then it is my beloved opening, and i give the move f5 a double exclamation mark :D

Daniel do you have a video somewhere where you explain why you recommend the grunfeld to beginners/intermediate players? I was looking at lines in the exchange variation, but it seems quite difficult for black to deal with white’s huge center. Objectively it might be equal, but as a beginner/intermediate player it seems quite difficult to deal with.

He talks about it a little bit at the beginning of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6usZ6R_Yphmlbc Daniel places more value on learning theory than other chess personalities like Hikaru/Levy. They think it's more important to improve other aspects of your play before getting into dense openings, but he thinks intermediate players shouldn't shy away from it.

it's ok against the Italian and 2 knights as well (in fact against the Italian f5 has the highest win rate), the opponent just captured the wrong pawn after d4 (the best is to play fe and then if white finds Nxe5 (because most people play the incorrect Nxe4) you play Bb4)😂
