1700 elo on lichess is close to 1400 on this site and 1700 on this site is close to like 900-1000 fide. We suck haha.

Those lessons are great but useless. Nowadays players under 1k elo respond with top engine moves in less than 1 sec - no matter how obscure line you play is. Bobby Fischer was right, computers destroyed chess, now it's just machine vs machine. Was fun while it lasted but it's over, I just don't see the point in playing chess anymore.

Finally i know some proffesional variation against this line! as a 2000+ player who wants to try learning e4 it's so annoying when they play this kind of unpopular variation knowing how to like equalize in like dozen or so moves while i barely touched basic lines, and just playing with the logic i have to struggle to win equal endgames.

just as a small piece of background information. georg meier switched form playing for germany to uruguay (his mother is from there). he had a dispute with the german chess federation and GM Elisabeth Paetzh which couldnt be resolved. So if anyone looks for a german player georg meier, he is now found under the urguay federation

I don't play chess at all but I love watching these videos. The most important thing I've leanred from Daniel is his willingness to completely change plans as circumstances dictate. He'll talk for a minute about how he plans to do x, y, and z, or how the opening is designed to control such and such a square, or build towards this or that move, but he never gets tunnel vision. He's ready to shift gears at a moment's notice as soon as that's what his opponent's play dictates. I feel like we don't see that enough in non-chess life.

This is disgustingly similar to a game I lost as black in an open Caro-kann defense. I missed the option of a6 because I saw exactly the tactic Danya was talking about, yet completely overlooked Nxd7 Qxd7 Bb5?? would have been a blunder for white because of the Qxb5 option. I only saw the axb5 Qxa8+ tactic, and although I mulled over the possibility of a6 for a while, I failed to find the Qxb5 defense of black; so I ended up playing the inferior Qe7? threatening Qb4+. However, white had the preemptive a3 to stop the queen trade, and because of my gross oversight of the position, I decided to resign the game early in disgust for missing the Qxb5 option that should have been easily noticeable.

Why exactly do you “loathe” the Rubinstein variation? Is it because it allows Black to achieve a comfortable game without the usual drawbacks, i.e., the usual bad light squared bishop? That forces White to be more creative!

1:55 Instead of Nf3 you could also play Bd3. That leads to an extremely effective trap, which goes Bd3 Ngf6 Qe2 Nxe4 Bxe4 Nf6 Bxb7! and White wins a pawn. I made a whole repertoire around this trap and it's not even dubious. White is fighting for an edge just like in the mainlines.
