I disagree with Martha being revealed to be MM in that scene as bad. It shows how MM had been following different characters, studying them, so much so that he can have a very personal talk with Lois. So when he's warning Bruce, you know the threat is real, and I love Bruce's reaction of being kind of meh because he probably knew of MM already and already knows and talking steps to a Darkseid matchup anyway.

I find that a violation by MM of Lois. There should be repercussions from it if the story line continues. It fits in well if you assume MM is a fish out of water. I also prefer that they just talk underwater normally in the Aquaman movie, but as a counterpoint, I think the intent in ZSJL is that they need the air bubbles to talk to Arthur in English (presumably because he doesn't speak Atlantean). There are brief scenes where Mera speaks to the motherbox guards and it's in a kind of whalesong/dolphin speak. That would be hard to sustain for a whole movie, but it does make a kind of grounded sense in that language evolved for a thicker fluid medium probably wouldn't sound like everyday english. This one idea made the air bubbles palatable for me.

The fleshed out character development particularly for Cyborg made this film a much richer and memorable experience . The theatrical cut is kind of mindless fun whilst you are watching it but you instantly forget it once it's finished . Tom Holkenberg's score and the colour palette changes make this this film make this version much more intense , grounded and visceral as an ex. I actually don't think the theatrical cut is as terrible as some people make out because it does have good moments ( mostly if not all Snyder moments) but compared to Snyder Cut it is very generic and bland .

Well, Geoff Johns too. Gal Gadot had a bad experience with Joss Whedon and she went to Deborah Snyder. Ray Fisher had a bad experience and he went to Geoff Johns, who brought Whedon on in the first place. With the 2 hour mandate, Cyborg was gonna get cut anyway, but it was also Geoff’s pettiness and Ray having no prior on screen history that allowed for Johns to say, yeah; “we don’t need an angry black man to be the heart of this movie” and that’s the racist abuse part. This was absolutely night and day better than the 2017 version, but I had problems with the editing early on. It felt like Zack reordered his own script because the way the bits played didn't flow smoothly. This was especially noticeable during the opening when Superman's scream affected all the Mother Boxes and then it cuts to Bruce looking for Aquaman. This takes place weeks if not months after Superman's death but the edit makes it feel simultaneous. In regards to all the great ideas that were cut from the 2017 version, I can't help but think that Whedon purposefully sabotaged the movie. There's no other way to explain why anyone would leave out something great and add inferior substitutes.

Atlantean sounds more like the way dolphins and whales communicate, as is shown just before Steppenwolf attacks, and it makes a lot of sense to me given the properties of sound through water. In addition to the things everyone is saying (Cyborg, etc) I think the Themyscira fight scene was improved extremely. In the 2017 version, it just seemed like the amazons were incompetent. It made the amazons look bad, and also didn't build up Steppenwolf, since he just beats a bunch of idiots. But the 2021 version showed the amazons as extremely capable, and still failing to stop Steppenwolf. This built up the amazons more, and also established Steppenwolf as a real threat. I think the value of this is kind of underrated. How Steppenwolf's first scene establishes him as a threat, compared to 2017 version, where he is just an evil guy who beats a couple of incompetent fools.

Pretty sure they overall said they liked it? In fact, I "hate Snyder as a whole" and I still liked JL. The fact that I have things I can criticize about the movie doesn't mean I'm not being objective, in fact seeing things that are bad in something we like (or vice versa) is the best measure we have for if we are being objective. I can't speak for SJU, but personally I find so much more to talk about in things that are good than bad, and it so much more interesting to talk about where something didn't work and why and what it could have done instead that if you just listen to "how many complaints I have" as a metric for how good something is you'd get the exact opposite impression. I feel like SJU have the same issue: they want to talk about the movie, and lose track of what impression they are giving of it.
