I loved the movie, and feel sorry for the actor who played Cyborg. He had to wait five years for people to see how well he did in the movie before the film was shredded for the time restriction.

I agree. I did not like Cyborg in the Josh Whedon version. At all. The Synder cut? Emotional impact caught me by surprise. I shed a tear with Cyborg's story arc and welled up when he helped that waitress. This is the Cyborg fans deserve.

Yup. What I gather from many people (the general audience and casual viewers friends) was they also wondering why cut out good scenes and replaced with lesser scenes. I think most of them were expecting the cut stuff were some very dark and dour scenes hence why lighthearted joke scenes were inserted. But they were surprised that they were character scenes or funny scenes too.

@@stanlee5465 - I doubt the girl genuinely thinks she can be exactly like Wonder Woman. You can be like someone without having their entire set of skills and abilities. What matters is embodying what she represents. Being compassionate, headstrong, and setting a good example for others. The most important thing about Wonder Woman is her ability to inspire people and build their confidence in themselves. That's exactly what she did there and what that girl has the potential to live up to, as do we all. As Jor-El told Clark, "every person has the potential to be a force for good." It's also very similar to Stan Lee's famous words: "That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt a real superhero."

Meh, it was probably studio mandate to make it funnier. So he didn't really cut the scenes because he didn't like them, but probably because he thought "this is a point in the story where I can squeeze in a few jokes". The grave digging scene in particular comes to mind: it's a very good scene, but if you're on a mandate to make more jokes, a scene where two characters have to dig up a body is where I would go too. The dude's a dick, but he was as open as he could be about not liking how his version of the movie turned out.

There's also the fact that they replaced him affirming his engagement to Lois with jokes about him being itchy or wooden boxes. But replacing a meaningful line about him speaking like himself again (and for the first time since he's been back; it's the first time she's heard his voice since she lost him) with a joke about his smell is also pretty dumb. I guess it wouldn't have made sense in Whedon's cut, since he has that forced "Do you bleed?" exchange (with the weird accent) when facing Batman.

That's a very WW thing to do. She was trying to talk him down as the fought and you could tell she was holding back even as she was getting hit harder and harder by Superman.

I also prefer that they just talk underwater normally in the Aquaman movie, but as a counterpoint, I think the intent in ZSJL is that they need the air bubbles to talk to Arthur in English (presumably because he doesn't speak Atlantean). There are brief scenes where Mera speaks to the motherbox guards and it's in a kind of whalesong/dolphin speak. That would be hard to sustain for a whole movie, but it does make a kind of grounded sense in that language evolved for a thicker fluid medium probably wouldn't sound like everyday english. This one idea made the air bubbles palatable for me.

In addition to the things everyone is saying (Cyborg, etc) I think the Themyscira fight scene was improved extremely. In the 2017 version, it just seemed like the amazons were incompetent. It made the amazons look bad, and also didn't build up Steppenwolf, since he just beats a bunch of idiots. But the 2021 version showed the amazons as extremely capable, and still failing to stop Steppenwolf. This built up the amazons more, and also established Steppenwolf as a real threat. I think the value of this is kind of underrated. How Steppenwolf's first scene establishes him as a threat, compared to 2017 version, where he is just an evil guy who beats a couple of incompetent fools.

This was absolutely night and day better than the 2017 version, but I had problems with the editing early on. It felt like Zack reordered his own script because the way the bits played didn't flow smoothly. This was especially noticeable during the opening when Superman's scream affected all the Mother Boxes and then it cuts to Bruce looking for Aquaman. This takes place weeks if not months after Superman's death but the edit makes it feel simultaneous. In regards to all the great ideas that were cut from the 2017 version, I can't help but think that Whedon purposefully sabotaged the movie. There's no other way to explain why anyone would leave out something great and add inferior substitutes.

And despite Batman's willingness to kill in his earliest comic book appearances, I don't think Batman should kill either. But it's justifiable to portray Wonder Woman, who was raised and trained in a warrior culture, as having no compunction to kill if she feels she has to. It's the interplay between her warrior prowess and her deep compassion that make her a compelling character.

It means that Zod was so dangerous, powerful, driven by hate and revenge by the fact that his role in existence was taken from him, that if Superman didn't stop him right there, people would die. Zod FORCED Superman to break his ethos, which is one of the reasons why Zod was a great villain and well portrayed too in Man of Steel!

"Of course they cut it" Every time Dan says this I nod my head and said, "I know right" Like, I literally paused my movie multiple times while watching just to figure out why they cut it. Like seriously, why????? Especially Cyborg stuff. It made the while movie better and more cohesive. Like damn. I read someone say that Josh might have seen a really good Justice l ague movie written here and therefore decided to butcher it so that no one comes close to Avengers and these cuts really make me feel that way even if I know that's not the case.

Honestly, do you think that Snyder himself could have done a good movie from his footage if he had to cut it down to 2 hrs? Think of what can be cut from the Snyder cut without butchering something. Now multiply that serval times to bring it down to 2 hrs.
@burninskin

@@LOTRFAN33 If I knew from the start that I have 2h fixed. I could cut like 1h hour from the stuff we got in the SC and I would cut Aquaman and leave him for the 2nd part. I don't think he was really necessary for this movie. And I definitely would not include MM. But I think a 2.5h JL movie could be perfectly made out of the SC.
@LOTRFAN33
@LOTRFAN33 3 жыл бұрын
@@burninskin Maybe but the studio wanted 2hrs not 2.5. They made Snyder cut BvS to 2 hrs and look how that suffered. Also there is no reason to believe WB would have allowed a part 1 and part 2 for JL even though that would have made more sense.

@@MonteLeeMyPOV so there is a Snyder interview on utube, originally it was suppose to be John Stewart coming from the lantern corps. Introducing himself. Warner bros, did not want the green lantern to be in the end sequence, asked Zack to take him out. Snyder didn’t at first but then came out with Martian man hunter introducing himself, instead of the green lantern.

The Lois and Martha (Martian man hunter) was brilliant in my opinion, because he also lost Superman. The only other alien, someone he had hope of connecting with, and needed to talk to someone about it, and He and Lois have an established relationship from the previous movies, so it’s still mourning between friends, Lois is just unaware which one.
@thedarkemissary

Except it removes Martha from the movie. Her character's emotional impact of that scene is completely undercut. And eventually the only thing she has in the movie is reacting to her son being alive. All for a weird Martian Manhunter tease.

I agree and disagree. I wish we just had a moment where the General came and talked to lois, in addition to Martha. Him pretending to be Martha seems to undo the closeness that Martha and Lois have. I would have loved to have him approach lois seperately, after she talked to Martha..where he delivered that last line about her coming back to the fray.

For the Darkseid segment, he forgot what planet he was defeated on because he hasn't just conquered 10,000's worlds, he's conquering universes. Remember when his convoy told Steppenwolf that he owes, "50,000 worlds after this" for betraying Darkseid? Meaning they conquer 10,000's of worlds on a daily bases. It'd be hard to remember the one that fought back. Also, how many worlds do you have to conquer to forget the one who fought back? Must be an insane amount.
