Nobody really knows the true answer, but legend says that sleeping Scottish were awakened from an ambush by Viking Norse raiders when one of the attackers trod on a thistle with his bare feet. His cries roused the Scots who duly defeated the invaders, and the thistle was adopted as the symbol of Scotland. There is another story that the Cameronians threw thistles over the walls of a castle to end the siege.
@laser83893 жыл бұрын
I heard it was the English, but yeah, there may well be some truth to the story. Probably not a lot, but maybe some.

That Thistle has my respect. It's been going wild on American farms for decades. It's tenacious. If you dont chop its roots off when it sprouts it will grow over six feet tall and sread thousands of seeds and take over the property and pasture or crop. It's thorny and mean. Most things won't eat it. At times, even goats. It's got its uses. It's also a painful prickly pain.
@UtubeuserLMJKBD12 жыл бұрын
Legend has it that a sleeping party of Scots warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the attackers trod on a thistle with his bare feet. His cries raised the alarm, the roused Scots duly defeated the invaders, and the thistle was adopted as the symbol of Scotland. Unfortunately, there is no historical evidence for this, but Scots, like other nations, love a good story. Curiosity always gets the best of me ... I had to. :)) BTW, I love Danny!
@michelleflood82207 жыл бұрын
That is true and why the thistle has been the national symbol ever since same as the shamrock has been since st Patrick used it to convert the pagan Irish to Christianity using it as a way of showing the holy trinity !
