Danny Carey's Paiste/Tool Cymbal Kit at NAMM 2019

This is one of the three kits that were made from recycled Paiste cymbals, and this one is the private one of Tool-drummer Danny Carey. Paiste displayed the kit on the NAMM 2019 show, so reason enough to show and feature this unique piece of art once more.
The drums are a combined effort and dream of both Eric Paiste and designer and drum builder Jeff Ocheltree. In 1998 they came up with the idea to recycle Paiste signature cymbals into an entire drumset. Danny used these on tour with Tool as well as in the studio.

Rare kit for a Rare Drummer totally awesome

This kit is 3 toms up and 3 toms down. Danny always plays 2 up and 2 down. I suppose he had extra toms made and switches them out depending on what sizes he wants. That's the only explanation I can think of. You never see him play 6 toms all at once.

Agreed, I’ve never seen him play with 3 floor toms, also he generally uses a roto Tom up top now... it’s been that way a while...

I always imagine the custom kit I wanna get built when I have a crapload of money, and I do always imagine getting extra sizes made just to switch them out, or play them all at once if something called for it lol

Add up the cost of the bronze for 50 to 60 cymbals and get a starting point. However I believe Daney stated that he had 2 of his 22” Paiste heavy rides as a starting point.

Some of the cymbal placement is reminiscent of how Bill Bruford would place some of his cymbals. I wonder if there is an influence.

Dennis Rivenburg he probably doesn’t even try. Everything I’ve seen has Carey playing 2 x high and 2 x low acoustic toms: this setup takes some artistic licence.
