I personally prefer this version compared to the manga; the gratuitous violence in the latter was a bit off-putting for me. In the anime, the scene adds more tension by not showing you that Danny was in the incinerator until you see Jonathan spotting the grave, at which point it hits you like a steamroller.

So when a villain brutally kills an animal, like how Dio had Danny incinerated like so, it makes us hate him even more. And you think this was bad, watch how Angelo takes care of a bulldog in part 4.
