You can make it quiter without spending more than 2 dollars.. Just buy these felt stickers for under a chairs feet. Then stick them between the "rails" or "cograil" which are responsible for turning the wheel (sry but english isn't my native) the FFB motors are moving these, so it's easy to find. I hope you get what i mean. Also put a bit of extra lubricant in if you have the wheel open anyways. Tadaa this will reduce the noise around 80% or even more.
@lighnr4 ай бұрын
Sounds interesting but I dont really get between which rails.
@WhiteCranK4 ай бұрын
@@lighnr Yeah i believe you haha, the problem is that i don't even know how to call these things in german. The ffb motors have tiny gears which move long, black plastic things (rails) left and right. Between these two black thingys there's some space which makes the noise, if you cancel that space with the felt, it's much quiter. Believe me, if you open the wheel and see the ffb motors and where they connecting with their gears, you'll understand what i meant 😅

Is it the rail on the back that limits the wheels movement or where roughly are those "rails" located and what is their shape?
@WhiteCranK4 ай бұрын
@@Dinous_65 Yes they're responsible for the wheel rotation. They're rectangular and maybe about 20cm (7.8inch) long and i believe they called "racks" or "cograil" You have to open the wheel base to find them.

G25 is quiet, it has better - two gears and spring mechanism - compensation of noise making from loose gears. If you want quiet, make gaps between gears teeth smaller by mounting them closer to each other .
@bartekc7 ай бұрын
G29 have helical gears which make no noise at all. All the noise is from electric motors shaft hitting plastics stoppers. This is caused by helical gears, they pull or push shafts. Noise in this construction can only be eliminated if Logitech used herringbone gears. I guess that plastic gears could not handle torque..

The inside of the wheelbase needs to be greased after a while. When you use your wheel daily the pieces inside generate friction. That burns the grease inside of it, and believe me, from the factory it comes with way less grease than it actually needs. Taking your comment on the overall effect on old wheels vs new, Danny one could say your wheel will now hold its "feel" characteristics as you sense it, longer, perhaps even longer than the design life of the wheel. So, as an upgrade I still believe it is a good one to have on a new wheel. My used wheel is in right now on its way to me. When I first use it I will be looking for wear issues and will keep this mod in mind. For Aussies interested in this mod this plate is AU$74 including shipping as at June, 2024.
@Osaka24072 ай бұрын
What makes the most amount of noise in these wheels is the hard stop mechanism. While Logitech has better main gearbox than Thrustmaster with their 'hybrid' approach (which is basically a glorified but really coarse gear mechanism with added belt to smooth some of the high frequency FFB effects out), Thrustmaster got one thing right. They have made a steering wheel shaft into a screw and made what essentially is a plastic nut going back and forth on it, bumping into hard stops and thus limiting travel. Much smoother, much quieter. Hell, for what what I care, I may end up buying G2x/G92x wheel and modding the crap out of it for the giggles. So while this mod helps for sure as metal cover will dampen the noise as it's much heavier than original and much more stiff, you may want to design and 3D print a better pinion gear, perhaps with some rubber rollers on it, to eliminate plastic on plastic contact.

My G29 started making such noises a few weeks in, from using almost all the FFB range but barely avoiding clipping. The sharper turns in my daily Nürburgring lap reach 3/4th the FFB range, crashes clip for obvious reasons. I could lower FFB to 100% instead of the 200% to lessen it, but as long as clipping is avoided during normal driving, more FBB more better. So I'll simply stand the noise, or take it apart and grease it if I feel the need to.
