Hold up... Are you NOT going 6km on the stock antennas already? I put away the patches I had and only use stock antennas and will do 5-6km just fine. Only my battery is limiting me currently. On the drone you should be using either the DJI stock o3 lollipop or the FlyFishRC o3 long antenna. If you are using SMA adapters then you will be losing some signal, and if you don't use the orthogonal linear antenna then you lose out on MIMO gain. Cheers!

It's good to see you take steps to have proper long range equipment. Some observations: 3.,4v at 4km is worrying, it means the quads is too heavy. The motors running 7537 has to work VERY HARD to carry that weight over that distance. Ideally it should be heavier in pitch, at least xx50-xx60 to carry that weight for an efficient cruise. Probably you'll change out the VTX antennas, and you should get more range than the DJI controller.

Hmmm. The stock antennas are easily capable of 6km (many have flown 10km+) in FCC mode. You'll likely see better performance if using the DJI stock VTX antenna (dual band linearly polarised) than using LHCP antennas on the VTX side, as you appear to be doing. SMA connectors also create insertion loss.
@ugpfpv3614 ай бұрын
True that an adapter will cause loss, but it's been shown that it's marginal, though there are some cr@py adapter that do have more loss.
@earthsgrip4 ай бұрын
@@ugpfpv361 Agree that it can be worthwhile, although most of the adapters used on FPV quads use thin, low grade coax with high loss at 6GHz
@ugpfpv3614 ай бұрын
@@earthsgrip yeah depends on how high gain the antenna are and if it's offset by bad adapters, I've got an antenna vna and have wanted to get some adapters to see what the reflected loss is and compare it to the antenna gain, I'll have to get on that... @earthsgrip4 ай бұрын
@@ugpfpv361 I appreciate you might run a 10dBi antenna on the ground side, but on the air side? High gain antennas are rarely used on the air side because the radiation pattern is impractical, and SMA adapters here are typically causing loss that is not recovered by antenna gain. What he used are high gain receiving antennas. This means that you can simply "listen in" better to your video signal. You can think of it as having a bigger microphone to pick up the drone's VTX signal, not a big speaker to talk to the drone. There are no health affects to using such antennas. The radio controller on the other hand would be the thing to look at for health effects, it's the one transmitting at one or two watts of power potentially.
