You may not have caught many big ones Dan, but catching that many different species in a day is still noteworthy... and I was crying when I lost one Chatterbait last week, so I can't imagine what you must've been going thru after 4 lost lures (tho I did lose my favorite X-rap and two Rip-Stops over 3 days last time I was home)... as for the carp, most likely they were spawning in the shallows and weren't going to bite anything... try again in a few days

Thanks bud, and yes losing that many lures sucked big time!!! I have yet to actually catch a carp one of these days I need to try and focus on them and catch one because I see them all the time! Hope you're doing well, thanks so much for always supporting me :)

Picked up some Surflon Nylon coated wire leader this summer after a couple near bite offs in pike filled water. It's tie-able which is really nice. A bit pricey but definitely cheaper than losing lures and it's thin enough it keeps the action from being impeded.

i keep telling myself I should do this, but like a lazy goof, I ignore my own advice.

I’ve been fishing on the Ottawa river for my whole life I use a wire leader never break off
@DanRichardFishing2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but you don't use wire leaders for fishing for bass, and even for pike you use fluorocarbon heavy leaders, way better than wire. If you're interested to learn more, check out my fluorocarbon leader Time video specifically for pike leaders.

Would you eat walleye from the Ottawa river?
@DanRichardFishing4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, nothing wrong with them. There is so much fresh water pumped through the river system, it's fine. Now pangasius from your local supermarket on the other hand, STAY AWAY.

@@DanRichardFishing I have aswell. Right from downtown Ottawa. Can't be worse than eating shrimp from Asia.

@@Yodrop Yep they're fine, they've tested the fish many times and they're below what you find in grocery stores in terms of contaminants.

Use a leader, you'll lose less lure$, catch more fish, and prevent a lot of fish dying because of lures stuck in their mouths.
@DanRichardFishing4 жыл бұрын
I don't use wire leaders but I am using 20 lb or 25 lb fluoro leaders in this video. I've actually never seen a hook deep inside of a Pike's mouth ever they're always hooked in the forward sections of the mouth and they spit the hooks very easily. They've actually done testing in tanks on fish with hooks in their mouths and 99% of the fish spit them out within the first 5 seconds. Bass have a much shorter mouth so it's much easier to bury hooks deep in their mouth that could potentially kill them. Honestly this video is probably the most amount of lures I've ever lost in a single day, it was absolutely absurd. Half of them I lost wasn't even on a fish 🤬🤬

@@DanRichardFishing You could try going up to 50lb fluoro. I use 50lb when I'm pike and bass fishing since there are so many pike around her (I'm an Ottawa Valley guy). I've only had three cut me off in as many years. One fish/year is a pretty good ratio and I find the leaders last almost a whole season. Hope to see you out sometime!

@@DanRichardFishing Right on! I grew up in Sarnia but moved here about 5 or 6 years ago now. I live in Almonte. If you want to hook up some time I'm always looking to meet more fishing buddies. I have a 15-foot bass boat and fish the Rideau, Mississippi lake, Ottawa river and some other spots further out in the Valley for the most part. Cheers!

Maybe it's your knots...
@DanRichardFishing3 жыл бұрын
This is an old video but I think this is the one that I had a ton of breaks from Pike... if so, definitely not the knots, just not using thick enough leaders and the pike were biting me off. This spring I used leaders I made (check my videos for the pike leader tutorial) and didn't break off on anything :) Dang pike...
