When you arrive in Guatemala as a foreigner, you are met immediately by people shouting "Antigua! Antigua! Taxi to Antigua?" The truth is that most foreigners skip the big city and go to more tourist-friendly destinations. But I really wanted to spend a day in Guatemala City to see what it's like. That's what today's video is all about, so I hope you enjoy my last video from Guatemala :)

Guatemala City is my favourite place on the planet (I'm slightly biased because it's where my boyfriend and friends live), it's full of culture and also its becoming more modern too. The malls there are great, and everything is reasonably priced. The city is huge and always expanding, there's so much to see and do. And the view at night across the city if you're in a tall building is pretty spectacular!

Yeah, Guatemala City isn't a tourist place like La Antigua Guatemala. This is why is cheaper, the prices are normal, how supposed have to be. And yeah Zona 1 and 6th Avenue was a really good decision to know more of Guatemala. Ther is a lot of old architecture most of the Art Nouveau architecture, and also Neo-Classical like the Cathedral. Some placese of Zona 1 are dangerous but 6th Avenue is safe.
@TheNewTravel6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Beatrixie! Are you from Guatemala City? I would have liked to visit Zona 10 as well if we had a bit more time to explore :)

The New Travel Yeah. I'm from Guatemala. Zone 10 is nice, but is like a "exclusive" zone. A lot of buliding, business area. A lot of expensive restaurants this is is a little high prices. But is nice, a good place to have a nice walk. I recomend you, a place called "1001 noches" is a bulding with a lot of little restaurants of different types of food.

O: great you are in Guatemala! I've been meaning to try that bakery that you went to lol!! , I live here in guate and my favorite thing in the city is how green most of the city is and the weather in general.. The "poshest" I guess zones in the city are 10,14,15,16 and and area called carretera a el salvador. If you come back you should definitely check out zone 4 it has a cool hipster ash area with pretty cool restaurants. I went to a high school here in guate that had american and canadian teachers and they were always surprised to see that guatemala has malls, modern looking buildings and sooo sooo much more than just antigua and tikal. You should come back! :)

it is great that you are coming :) just be careful with your belongings and try no to go to zone 1 alone and dont go at all to zone 2,3,5,17 and 21. Theres really a lot to do here, if you go to zone 4 ask the uber or taxi to take you to 4 grados norte. It is great that you are coming now when the economy needs it the most, with the volcano eruption that happened people think that it affected the city, tikal and antigua and they cancelled their trips. If theres anything else you would like to know feel free to ask me.

Also Tikal is beautiful and I loved it when I went but honestly, you were so close to Kaminaljuyu which is in Guatemala city. You should of checked out the site. It is also an ancient Mayan city which predates Tikal and was inhabited from about 1000 BC to about 1200 AD or around there. Theres a Museum as well at the Miraflores mall where there is literally a pyramid mound over part of the museum. You should really look into it when you go back. I love Guatemala!
