Yancheng used to be the poorest city in Jiangsu, I think it still is. Half century ago, a lot of Suzhou, Wuxi people were exiled there during the cultural revolution. They came back with horror stories such that all the folks there slept in mud huts with roofs made of hays. Damn time has changed!

Please do not refer to Chinese New Year as "The Lunar New Year." This term is primarily used by Koreans. If the argument is that CNY is celebrated by people beyond China, then consider that Koreans also celebrate Christmas. Should we then rename Christmas as "Koreanmas" to reflect this?

Just a bit of the background, salt had been a government monopoly since 2600 years ago. Private salt dealing was a death penalty due to its extreme high profit. Many old towns had been prosperous because they were either salt originator places or important trade stops. Yancheng is the former.

I'm so surprised that you went there. Yancheng is not even a popular travel destination in Jiangsu province. It's ranked right in the middle of the province by every single aspect, population size, economy size, per capita GDP, tourism market size. Everything about Yancheng is just so ordinary that the only thing to set it apart from other cities in Jiangsu is its ordinariness.😅 Most tourists who come to Jiangsu would visit Nanjing the old capital city of China ("Nan"=South, "Bei"=North, Beijing literally means the Northern Capital while Nanjing means the Southern Capital), or Suzhou the largest city by economy size and the home of traditional Chinese gardens.
