A reflection on life in the Uk in the 80s too. Thatcher’s government closing down heavy industries and leaving towns and cities full of joblessness and poverty. It’s still felt now, 40yrs later, and was very current when the song was written. Thatcher’s ministers spoke about people needing to get on their bike and ride from town to town looking for work.

Neither of them ever did something hokey, half-assed or commercial. Even Peter's most successful album, So, had a song which satirized the pursuit of fame and money. No, they were never together romantically that I know of, but certainly Kate could have made her living in theater arts. The way she is embracing Peter in the video is so sincere, so genuine I can feel it through the screen. I feel warmer and more wanted just by watching this. You could do worse than exploring more of their music.

As promised here's some background information on Kate Bush. A quick background summary of Kate Bush, Kate started writing songs at about 11 years old, adding more complex lyrics from 13 onwards. By her mid-teens she had written more than a hundred songs (some reports say nearer two hundred), the family made demo recordings of about fifty, in an attempt to attract the attention of record companies without any success. Until a friend of family passed the demos to David Gilmour guitarist for pink Floyd, he was interested and ultimately paid for time at studio with session musicians to make professional recordings of three songs from Kate extensive catalogue which he selected. It was those professional recordings that he passed onto EMI executives when he was asked about new talents - when EMI listened they wanted to sign Kate up immediately, but they had to wait until she had left school, Kate signed for EMI when she was 16 years old. EMI paid Kate a retainer which she used to improve her piano playing, voice lessons and also dance & mime lessons from Lindsay Kemp (who had also taught David Bowie dance). Kate also fronted a pub band that one of her brothers had put together. Eventually EMI called Kate back to work on her debut album "The Kick Inside" although two songs were taken from the professional recordings that Davie Gilmour had paid for - one of those songs was written when she was 13. Kate's debut single "Wuthering Heights" was released in January 1978 and it was so different to everything else in the singles chart and became a massive worldwide hit, reaching number in a number of countries around the world and charting highly in others. When it got to number 1 in the UK, Kate became the first female artist to have a self written song reach number one, the 1st of numerous records and milestones that Kate has set in the UK and album charts. When "The Kick Inside" was released later in 1978, it sold a million copies in the UK and reached number three in the album chart. Kate is multi-talented a singer/songwriter, musician, dancer, record producer, video producer and director. Kate was also heavily involved in the staging of both of her concert tours - 1979 "Tour Of Life" and the 2014 concert residency "Before The Dawn". Kate has inspired/influenced countless numbers of artists/musicians who followed her, she is considered to be a musical icon and pioneer. Kate was credited as a co-producer on her third album "Never For Ever" and was the sole producer on her fourth album "The Dreaming" and every subsequent studio album. I should add that the massive worldwide chart success of "Wuthering Heights" was surpassed in 2022 by "Running Up That Hill" whose extensive use in Stranger Things turned it into the song of the summer on both sides of the Atlantic, topped a number of Billboard charts and reached number 3 in the hot 100, turning it into her biggest US hit record by far. Worldwide it reached number 1 in more countries than "Wuthering Heights" did and it set numerous UK single chart records first when it reentered the chart and then it reached number 1 in the UK chart staying there for 3 weeks.

Two authentic musicians who understood and respected each other. They have a history of friendship starting in 1978 or 1979. Peter was a big influence to Kate when she developed her production skills after her two first albums. In 1982 they both released topnotch albums, unlike anything before. At first listen they could have recorded them in the same studio at the same time. I consider them twin albums: Peter's "4", also known as "security", Kate's "The Dreaming". After The Dreaming Kate had her biggest success with "Hounds Of Love". A very special album, split in two sections. Part one, called 'Hounds Of love' contained five more 'straightforward' tracks (with Kate nothing actually is straightforward), of which four became well received singles. Part two, called 'The Ninth Wave' is a 7-track concept piece. A storyline was told throughout these out of the ordinary pieces of music. With that Kate's glory had risen to genius stardom. 'Hello Earth' shows her agile and original composition and lyrical skills. Hounds Of Love is an album very much worth reviewing from beginning to end.

It's crazy just how many people have been saved by brilliant song, s notable example was Sir Elton John who admitted on a 2014 BBC documentary about Kate Bush that this song helped him to basically pull back from killing himself by various addictions. It's marvelous that it has had such a positive impact on so many. Peter and Kate aren't a couple they have worked with each other on occasions, in addition to this Kate provided backing vocals for two tracks on Peter Gabriel's 3rd album which were "Ganes Wiithout Frontiers" and "No Self Control" when working with Peter, Kate was introduced to the Fairlight CMI, Peter being the 1st artist in the UK to own one because they were very expensive, Kate used the Fairlight to great effect on initially on her 3rd studio album but even more on her 4th and 5th albums. Peter Gabriel was a guest on a BBC Kate Bush special which was broadcast on December 1979. In another comment I will give you a quick introduction to Kate Bush...

I'm so happy you have found Peter Gabriel. Before Phil Collins was lead vocal for Genesis, it was Peter Gabriel. There is a deep backlog of his that you NEED to dig into. Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks were the other two founding members of Genesis. They have both gone on with their musical careers, but Peter and Phil are the ones everyone remembers. Kate Bush is a treasure in her own right. Enjoy this new adventure.

Hello ! First time i saw Peter Gabriel live in a Small venue it was in 1974 you must see that ! My friends and i were high on window pain ( lsd 25 ). It was something i ll never forget ! I recently found out there was a guy who brought his tape casette cam recorder and filmed the whole show ! I was sitting a bit in front of him it looks like when i watch that video !
