The only horror book that ever scared me was Dark Water by Koji Suzuki, I can't recommend it enough. Also my staple autumn reads are The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and The Secret History by Donna Tartt

The Ninth House sounds like the perfect book for fall in terms of atmosphere, I’ve had it on my shelves for months and yet I’m so scared to approach it because of how high my expectations were at the beginning!

i really wanna give dark academia type of books a try, and i'm starting with the secret society, even tho i really wanna read if we were villains too (and i was recently gifted a couple of shakespeare plays so i'll get to those first hahaha)

I definitely recommend the Lockwood & Co. series! It's a lot of fun, it's not too scary like you said, and the characters are great! This series is actually the only thing I've read off of your list so I think I'll have some catching up to do this autumn!

My favourite thing about your videos is the background music that you choose and try to adapt your life that you are generously filming for our sake in a way that whenever somebody watches your videos they feel positive!

I'm into psychological horror, so my recommendations along those lines are: "The Troop" by Nick Cutter, "The Hunger" by Alma Katsu, "Young Goodman Brown" by Nathaniel Hawthorne (short story), "The Terror" by Dan Simmons, "The Corn Maiden and Other Nightmares" by Joyce Carol Oates (short story collection), "We Eat Our Own" by Kea Wilson. Hi you’re one of my favourite booktubers because I love your style and aesthetic! In other videos you mentioned how you don’t attain the information from audio books as well as when you read-I am like that! It means that we are visual learners and that our auditory skills/learning aren’t the strongest. Hope this helped!🍂🌄

I felt the same way about Truly Devious. I think you’ll like A Study in Charlotte much more. I did anyways haha. Idk how I didn’t know about Cruel Beauty and I’m glad you mentioned Uprooted bc for some reason I thought summer would be a good time to read that. The new Naomi Novik book sounds SO GOOD! I hope you get to read lots of cozy, spooky books 🍂

Loving the background music, it fits so well with the theme ahaha! Thanks for the spooky-but-not-too-horror recs, I found that most of the books you recommended haven't been spoken about by a lot of other booktubers. I have maybe one middle grade/YA series recommendation for you: Tunnels by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. It's all about this subterranean world and society that the main character discovers after his father disappears in his cave. DEFINITELY gave me the spooks when I read it!!

Yessss I love the Lockwood & Co books and I don't hear enough about those books! Also for spooky books I recommend anything Grady Hendrix has written; I've only read two books (Horrorstör and My Best Friend's Exorcism) but I really enjoyed those a lot!

You’re going to love Wilder Girls! It was one of my favorite books of 2019. I am currently reading Ninth House and I liked it, but somehow I had expected something different from what I’m reading now. But I want to find out what makes it so special to everyone! Another book I’m currently reading that you might like: the Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu. It’s a historical fiction about Mozart’s sister, who was bound to become the piano prodigy, intertwined with a magical world. Very autumnal as well! Xxx

Ohhhhhhhhh Merlin! You are the first person I see on booktube recommending a Jonathan Stroud book and I am so happy about it! He is one of my favorite authors! His characters are just chef's kiss! They feel so human and I loved Lockwood!! If you haven't read the Bartimaeus Trilogy yet, you should totally do that! It is so freaking good as well!

@@sharonrose5134 Oh yeah there is a prequel to thr trilogy! If you liked it you should definitely check out the Lockwood series! It has a different vibe with ghosts and stuff but it is very well written, thr characters are great and there is also humour in it. Not as sarcastic as Bartimaeus but still pretty fun. I just love his work and especially his characters... xD sorry going full fangirl mode here 😊

The Lost Apothecary is also super good for autumn. Great book at any time, but it has that darkness that makes it even better for reading in autumn.

I just checked and I never read the Lockwood and Co series. In fact I bought it on my kindle in October 2015. Thanks for the reminder. I am reading that and Ninth House next. I’m reading Home before Dark by Riley Sager right now. I’m having a hard time getting into it.

I just finished The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell and it was the DEFINITION of a spooky autumn read!! A haunted manor in rural England, a widow and strange wooden figures are the main ingredients of this novel. It's always rainy or clammy or misty outside which makes it even creepier. Highly recommended for dreary, rainy autumn days.

So many of these are already on my autumn TBR! I'm also going to read Jane Eyre, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Ninth House, A Deadly Education and Mexican Gothic. Some other ones on my list are The Temple House Vanishing by Rachel Donohue, Bunny by Mona Awad and Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas - all spooky books set in a school or university setting! I love my dark academia books too. :D

If you're interested in reading more horror, Let the Right One In is my personal favorite. It's a vampire novel that balances tenderness with ferocity. It's a recommendation even if horror isn't your thing!

For Dark Academia would definitely recommend Bunny by Mona Awad. The Shining by Stephen King is an absolute classic big Autumn transitioning into Winter vibes. I also recently finished a Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay which has received mixed reviews but personally I really enjoyed it and it has a good balance of horror and cultural satire. It’s also a pretty easy read.

You should definitely read A Secret History by Donna Tartt, it’s like a staple dark academia book. But I also highly rec In the Woods by Tana French (crime thriller set in Ireland) and A Silent Companion by Laura Purcell (very creepy ghost story with dolls involved lmao)

I finished reading Uprooted last week and I'm currently reading Spinning Silver by the same author. Both books are amazing and perfect to read in autumn-winter season. I can't wait to read A Deadly Education too.

The silent companions by Laura Purcell is the scariest book I've read! So if you're still looking for horror check it out.

There was a novel about lost things. I didn't read it nor do I remember its title. The NYTBR reviewer excerpted a paragraph where a person muses about a place where one goes to rediscover lost dreams, illusions, ambitions, et cetera. She is disappointed to discover he meant a place to find that odd sock, or the old room key.
