This was my favorite game as a kid. I played it a lot throughout the years on and off but after a few years now and lots more gaming experience came back to it recently. As I was playing I was thinking to myself what speedruns may look like and thought that it may be fun to try some in the future. So here I am, watching yours and studying up a bit. I don't know if or when I'll start making runs of my own, but hey, definitely something I'd like to do sometime. Thanks for the knowledge required for the game, and thanks for the great content!

despite barely progressing past the second area in both this game and the sequel when I was a kid, they still remain as some of my favourite games. It's weird, because you can totally see the flaws and how they could improve, but something about the uniqueness of the games paired with the charm of the worlds and the interesting mechanics just makes them feel like so much more than they probably are. I'm glad to see a speedrunning scene still exist for them, and I'm desperately holding out hope that they one day develop a sequel, but I know the likelihood is minimal to nil. Anyways, I'm gonna sit back and watch you blitz this game now.

Favorite game of all time. I'm 29 and played this first when I was 13 or 14 maybe. Just listening to the music puts me to sleep because of how soothing it is. Thanks for the glitchless run. So much fun going through it with you. I've gotten to the final boss in the dark castle in the sky and refuse to use glitches so this year I plan to return and beat everything even the bonus 100 floors.

Watching this is really helpful for figuring out what habits i need to break to run this game. Edit: it's a month later. I figured I'd try a run. I somehow managed to get to Utan without a slingshot. I had 8 gems. And 7 swords. And 8 power up powders. Fuck me I guess

The issue with the Turbo control is that how do you tell if someone is using a Macro or not? Sure if they use the exact same Macro endlessly it is detectable, but randomly changing how the Macro works by a few frames to make intentional errors from time to time makes it impossible. A lot of cheaters give themselves away due to lack of human error. The more outside tools the easier it is for humans to cheat in subtle ways. You see this in countless speedrunning communities. Human error is the most important thing for keeping a human competition fair as it proves the human element is legit. I've spotted cheaters based on that human element alone.

I'm not sure I remember the topic I discussed in the run, but if it's about allowing turbo or not for this game, there is not really a situation in this game where a macro would be beneficial in any way The only thing you could argue is a macro for menuing, but the nature of this game means you will never have the same item inventory or Georama inventory in every attempt, so you wouldn't even be able to create a macro for that Macros would do nothing beneficial in combat/dungeon, so the only thing turbo would affect in this game is text mashing, which isnt really an important skill imo The Japanese version of the run allows for turbo and has had no issues, and the reasoning for it being allowed there but not English is basically purely arbitrary. You have to keep in mind that not every game is the same, and therefore doesn't have the same risks of cheating and the like

There are 100% speedruns out there. Check out closetowar's 100% runs, theyre really good. Hes even got a true 100% run that's like 20+ hours lmao. I don't have the endurance and stamina to do runs that are 12 hours long like that so I don't think I could myself lol

God I need to play these games again. Both 1 and 2/chronicle. One of the first RPG’s I ever played and the music is so nostalgic. Remember 100%ing the first one and almost finishing the second 100% (got stuck in the mines) I’d kill for a remaster some day but I’m losing hope each year.

It is not allowed in this category, and neither are any of the other glitches in the game. Outside of glitchless categories like this one and 100% Glitchless, broken dagger is allowed in all of the other speedruns for this game. The reason for this is that the gameplay style and strategies to complete the game as quickly as possibly drastically change with the use of glitches like broken dagger or shop glitch, so it's best to separate them into different speedruns entirely.

Because those things aren't glitches They still work as they're intend to, you're just taking advantage of existing mechanics in the game to do them

@@Glitchedd I don't think chests were intented to have 2/3 options cheesable and dran's feather wouldn't be an item if the dev's intended you to always run that quick.

@@chipmanly1359 the only "cheeseable" option is explosion and you can literally do it by just holding down on the control stick The explosion functions as intended. It explodes if the trap is triggered and does damage to you, but it can be avoided by simply moving away from it. Not a glitch, just utilizing game knowledge Camera angle affecting movement speed is also not a glitch, just a product of the way the cameras math was coded. Again, functions as intended, but has unexpected utility for a Speedrun

@@chipmanly1359 already explained, they work as they were designed to work but there are ways to exploit the way they are designed Exploiting that does not automatically mean it's a glitch. How can you be positive of what the developers intended? Are you 100% certain the developers never found either of these things during testing but decided they weren't worth changing? You can't be positive of that, so strategies arent going to be banned based off of an assumption of what developers intended or did/didn't know about Regardless, I didn't make the ruleset for the category, but there is next to no technical skill in this run. It's pure RNG if you takeaway things like what we are mentioning, so I probably wouldn't care to run the game if it didn't have the tech that it does have. Spending 2 extra hours on your run because you decided to move in a sub optimal way or taking unnecessary trap damage is pointless if there are ways to avoid them
