This , the assault on the tau base and the assault on the Eldar base were the most difficult in my opinion. The assault on the chaos base was just annoying because of the blood pulse but once that was dealt with they weren't that hard to take out

Heck it was why the regimental commissar was assigned to them. Heck the 5th will end up switching sides when you kill their commissar.

Well, I player with IG completely differently. I was aggressive to no end with them, conquering all in the Emperor's name with no hesitation or delay. Even insane pc was crushed beneath waves of my faithful guardsmens if given battlefield was small enough for my T1 tech capabilities.

All I can say of their stronghold is DAMN. They got plently of small bases and power around the land. They do well like the Tau forces, but the only advantage here is when the 5th company rebels against them. However, they are traitors and deserve to die for such a dishonorable move.

I think Alexander's speech is the best among the stronghold defenders. It is funny thought if you attack with Space Marines and he says: the Emperor is with us and we are invincible. And fellas, it is true that commisar's are fuckin' cruel, but they are the reason of the subordinacy and loyality of the IG. And don't forget, these guys are the fifth company, the most coward suckers. You saw what happened when you killed their commisar, they immediately turned.

The IG had the saddest and most tragic ending of the Dark Crusade campaign. The Blood Ravens straight up massacred them and sent the rest home knowing they would likely be killed in shame for failing in their mission. I hate how the guard went in this one; there should have been an option to ally with the guard since the guard technically can't really get involved in space marine matters anyway. The commander of the guard was slain by space marines and the Commissar was murdered causing the men to rebel. The loyal guardsmen were slain by their traitor brothers who joined an IMPERIAL faction and the traitors ended up getting slain anyway by the blood ravens. The loyal men who survived; I can only believe based on how 40K lore is: those men were all put to death when they got home. The IG ending also reveals how the inquisition got on the Blood Ravens case in the first place; which tells me Gabriel Angelos should have been the one leading the campaign and the Blood Ravens would have never crossed the guard and got in trouble with the inquisition in the first place.

You can play all seven races in the skirmish and campaign modes of Dark Crusade, regardless of what other titles you own. For multiplayer however, Dark Crusade only allows the Tau and the Necrons, Dawn of War unlocks Eldar, Space Marines, Orks and Chaos, and adding Winter Assault unlocks the Imperial Guard.

The best stronghold assault, bar none. I wish there was a mod to make it harder, like having the artillery barrage slowly creep up to your base, having chimeras and valkyries drop fully upgraded infantry squads near your position, having the second mechanized company actually send vehicles to attack you and having the AI try to retake and reinforce whatever positions you have taken from them.

A lot of commissars are typically very stuck up and won't see things any other way than their own. The only commissar which comes to mind who wasn't so much like this was Ciaphas Cain. It's part of their training at the schola, I think.

@xxlCortez And I think if the commisar doesn't shoot the soldier, he would have say something like that: "But sir, there's too many of 'em, they are strong, we couldn't stand a chance..." Which could completely demoralize the others. As far as I know, commisars are only shoot the cowards who run from combat (thought players shoot them for getting more damage) but better if they execute 1 or 2 soldiers than the enemy slaughter 3 or 4 squads because or the loss of morale.

The Guard are just as numerous as the orks, actually. Also they are way more than just 40k's redshirts, they're an army of billions of people from millions of different worlds. If you're looking for good Guard stories, pick up Fifteen Hours or Deathworld at the Black Library website.

It was just a little misunderstanding between two high commands. Since the Space Marine army is independant from the Imperial Guard, they obey their own orders, but normally Guard and Space Marines are allies.

I agree, cadian's especially look like western armies such as American or British. The Iron Guard look like WW1 soldiers, Vahallans look like Soviet in the defence of stalingrad for example.
