A line with the same weight for me is the one in Demon's Souls uttered by Stockpile Thomas, saying: "You have a heart of gold don't let them take it from you". He was truly grateful to us for finding the hairpin which belonged to his daughter. In a fucked up, where doom almost certain to all, it is good to see that a little gesture of kindness can still make a world of difference in someone else's life. The Nexus still is one of my favorite hub worlds in the whole Soulsborne genre.

Dark souls helped me overcome opiate addiction. I was going through withdrawal while playing through it. The theme of perseverance in the face of hopelessness and suffering mirrored my actual real life situation. It was a great focus for me and it felt as though all the hurdles and tribulations I was overcoming in the game were a metaphor for my actual struggle. It's so odd. This game has probably influenced my life more than any other art or media. I look back on it with a special kind of nostalgia. The kind that is necessary for growth, change, and an appreciation for things in spite of the circumstances. It was beautiful. And yet, in spite of all of this, I still can't put into words what exactly makes this game so good. It just IS good, idk. Anyway, easy sub. Your channel is going crazy bro

"I still can't put into words what exactly makes this game so good. It just IS good, idk." probably cuz it was your first. your comment applies to pretty much all the souls games.
@markopusic82582 жыл бұрын
@@flamingmanure I would argue that DS1 did it best though, and that comes as someone who started with DS3 back in 2016 and didn't play the other games until 2020 (the souls games anyway, I did play Sekiro and complete one single run of Bloodborne somewhere in 2019). DS1 is by no means perfect, hell, the latter half of the game is honestly pretty shit in places and the remaster didn't even try to address the issues. But, DS1 is also the game that tried the hardest to create its own unique identity, through its level design, its lore, its NPCs, its take on a proper challenge... DS2 certainly had atmosphere, and Majula is easily the best hub in the Souls trilogy, but overall the game lost itself in production hell, leading to a lack of understanding of what made DS1 great especially regarding the difficulty aspect of the game. DS3 was the most polished of the 3, with the best bossfights by a long shot, but the game leaned heavily on reference to DS1 and thus lacked identity through most of its life, I'd say the game really became its own only with The Ringed City DLC. What I'm trying to say is, despite the fact that I think DS3 is the best of the 3, DS1 is the special one that couldn't be replicated. With all its merits and its flaws, it's THE Dark Souls experience in its purest form,.

I only just played DS1 last month and it was absolutely game changing. At first it was a nice game that reminded me of old school monster hunter, but it slowly immersed me in a way no other game ever has. Every portion of the corrupt and falling world is beautiful, and the world design, lore and music is amazing. Every bonfire felt like a huge victory, in a way that most video game milestones just don't. I have since played DS2, 3, BB, and am now doing the DS3 DLC, but nothing compares to that experience that DS1 provided. I always love those kinds of conversations, but in the last two and a half years I haven't had any of those, because they usually happened on a chill bus ride on the way home after a day out in the city with friends, and I haven't really had the chance to do that anymore. You know, that feeling of meeting someone you've never seen before, talking about a very specific thing you're both passionate about for about 20 minutes, and then parting ways with the words "see you around!", only to realize you may never see them again, but always treasure that little moment of human connection. The Dark Souls 1 video is right over 2 hours long but it gives everything that happens in the story and different outcomes that occur and presents it all in an incredibly easily digestible way. Great video btw man! Found you from the Pokemon region design video and am loving the stuff you're making!

I just came back to tell you - this video is important. Every single piece of hope and serenity that can be brought to people is priceless in this broken world. Thanks for creating your content, one of my fav channels right now. Don't you dare go hollow.

honestly man, your channel is great. with those golden green screen edits you already beat 99% of those other video essays channels. also the existential dread is something that a lot of people relate to, me included. i don't know how exactly but your videos really encapsulate the lo-fi, rainy day, doomer vibe. glad you made a video on one of my favorite games ever. i remember a time where everyone on the dark souls subreddit were saying it cured their depression and gave them a means to continue in life and that's really because dark souls at its core teaches you that no matter how much you fail, you can always come back with more knowledge and beat the shit out of that challenge. you just have to keep trying and not go hollow. also i saw a post that said the only way to truly go hollow in the game is to stop playing when facing adversity, which i found very powerful.

I recently found this absolute gem of a channel. I've made videos since I was 15, now I am in university and after 3years of doing nothing with my channel, you kind of rekindled my flame of ambition (souls reference right). The format you use I always found very interesting when I first saw NakeyJakey do it. I've got these green curtains in my room, so you probably get the gig. I want to make videos like you and hell I already have a green screen! Thanks for being my support, during my lonely times between lectures in these hellhole called university. Keep up the incredible videos man

So your video just popped up in my recommendations (sometimes YT gets things right, haha) & seeing Dark Souls = me watching! Firstly, congratulations on your 70k subs! I subbed too 🙂 Yes, Dark Souls is a very special experience...I didn't get into video games (as a book-lover) until my child had flown the coop, & by the time I was introduced to FromSoft games, I was in my mid-40's. My first was Bloodborne, which hooked me in completely and I adore this masterpiece, & I've played them all except Demon's Souls as never had the opportunity (yet.) However, it was when I played Dark Souls Remastered in 2018 that I felt a HUGE connection to this gorgeous game world, the story, the characters and that inherent 'warmth' of the game deeply resonated with me & when I beat Gwyn and linked the Flame (as most do on their first playthrough) I sobbed like a baby, completely overwhelmed by ALL those deep emotions & felt ALL the feels 😢 I played Dark Souls blind, offline, & I fully immersed myself into the world, pondering all the tidbits of Lore I read through item-descriptions, NPC dialogue, environmental storytelling. I discovered the Great Hollow and Ash Lake by myself, as I could hear the sound of the echo-y huge space behind the illusory walls. I managed to complete most of the NPC questlines, & spent weeks just exploring every inch of the world & taking it all in. I didn't want Dark Souls to end & it truly did absorb itself into my soul, as silly as that sounds. For me, Dark Souls is like a warm hug from an old friend. The game is so comforting, & gives us hope. I love Dark Souls & it helped me through some very difficult times, so now, on my 6th playthrough, I'm attempting my first SL1 run!!! It's daunting to me, I never expected to make it very far, but here I am, sitting at the Bonfire with my dear sweetie, Solaire, and about to face O&S...eeeeekkkkk! - wish me luck XD As for other recommendations, I love Max Derrat's channel, where he talks in depth about Alchemy, ancient religions, philosophy etc in FromSoft games, Zullie for secrets and technical stuffs, & TheTarnishedArchaeologist for Elden Ring Lore from an Archaeologist's perspective, which is really really interesting! PS - I'm also currently reading Berserk for the first time because of the influence this incredible manga had on Miyazaki-San & FromSoft.

As I'm writing this I'm also playing Dark Souls and reading Berserk, even playing the game on the switch too. Similarly it's come at a time in my life that I don't really know what I want to do. The past several years have been hard and before I played the first game I played the others and the world was often a comfort setting to learn about lore and play ocassionally since I tended to be pretty bad at it. One also gives me that odd feeling of comfort sitting at bonfires and relaxing, it's funny how a game meant to be frustrating and hard has provided comfort for so many people and like Berserk as of recently has inspired me to do better.

This particular video appeared on my recommendations today, naturally I clicked on it as a big fan of souls games and yeah, well said. I was kinda moved, I mean I always am when I hear all these people from far across the world going through dark souls, feeling how I felt, struggling like I struggled and coming out of it...changed, more appreciative of things. It never ceases to amaze me, thank you for your work on this video, you have earned a sub
