Dark Souls 3 - Parry one-shot

One of my weirdest moments in Dark Souls 3 PvP.
This is one of my first attempts at playing PvP in Dark Souls 3 so i have no idea how any of this works. This guy i was facing was obviously orders of magnitude better than me, but got caught in an animation cancel into parry. He then stripped all his clothes to let me one shot ?

Honestly he was a great sport about it, he stripped off so quick just to give me the one-shot. Matched against him a couple times after and he whooped my ass a few times, he was really fast at swapping weapons mid combo. I'm a beginner at DS3 PvP, I fiddled a little with it in Elden Ring but in DS3 people have much more practice than I do. Also I played all of DS3 with mouse & keyboard just for the hell of it and this makes quick menuing so much harder xD

​@@kingkazma2605 Lol my bad then. I have a habit of seeing RKSS cancelling or Murky and just assume 'sweaty tryhard'... And yea, most people play controller, so throughout the souls community there's not really any guides or ppl to teach you how to Mouse & Keyboard... I'm controller-illiterate, and have been playing KBM since day one, so I can pass down some tips. ESC, E and Q are going to be your most important keys... On PC you can rebind keys, and ideally you should rebind your ESC key to something more accessible. I personally bound it to the Button 4 on the thumb side of my gaming mouse, this allows me to quick swap my 1st right hand weapon by pressing ESC(button4)+E+E. These keystrokes are very easy to get used to, and I've been learning to do parry swaps with it lately, though I'm still not the best at it. For ring swaps, we're going to do the opposite of what controller players do... I recommend placing all rings you swap the least often on the left side, like Prisoner's Chain and Ring of Favor. Meanwhile, place rings you swap the most on the right side. This will reduce mouse travel distance and allows you to access those ring slots easier. On the right-most slot (slot 4), I recommend positioning a Silver Cat Ring directly to it when you open the ring menu so that you can quickly swap to it by just pressing E+E. And from this slot, I recommend filling out the adjacent slots to the left, right, and bottom also with SCRs, so that you have bigger area to swap to. To get a bunch of SCRs, People do this by downloading the Honest Merchant mod, which gives you all the items you'll ever need in this game... You can also arrange the 5 item slots when you first press ESC accordingly as well. Your mouse always starts off at the center of your screen, so items most to least frequently used should be arranged right to left. Also, you actually did a perfect parry in this video even if you didn't intend to. I can only give you some dumb unga bunga tips here. The general idea is to press your parry key at the same time the other person presses R1... Or rather, at the same time you think they pressed R1... Or when it's a slower attack, you press parry when you think their attack is about to land (there is a rhythm to these attacks). This accounts for latency, and most of the time, you're going to do predict parries anyways. People talk of reaction parries, but I never really seen anyone do it in PvP once throughout my time in DS3. So yea, I just feel like dumping all of this here to help a fellow KBM player out, but these are all the tips I can share. I still have a lot of knowledge gaps, and there are other mouse & keyboard players out there who have become absolute pros, like the youtuber Amir... I still haven't figured out a way to do things like Gundyr or Ledo wakeups.

Will try to implement it into my gameplay :D Also about the parry timing, i was actually actively trying to do a perfect parry. The R1 just before that was to bait him into (1) distancing himself and (2) swinging at my ass. Idk if you knew that all fist weapons don't have the same recovery frames before a parry : basically iirc the Manikin Claw, Demon's Fist and Crow Talon can start the parry action a few frames earlier than the Caestus and regular Claw after any other action (i think it's something related to the weapon art but i didn't bother digging further to figure out why). That's why i'm using the Crow Talon here, right after my bait R1 i queued a parry and that worked absolutely beautifully. And this fine gentleman gifted me the glory kill :D Thanks a lot for the tips dude !

@@kingkazma2605 Yep I know fist parries have slightly earlier frames than shields and other parry tools. But in my experience, that's hardly relevant due to latency. It's all the same to me, and I basically do the same actions anyways... Except when you fail a shield parry, it's more forgiving because you don't take massive stamina damage like with failed fist parries which would basically stun you in place and would prevent you from rolling.
