Oh my god. Andre appearing out of nowhere and immediately drop kicking Lobos right off the edge in Great Hollow is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. This run is interesting to look at for how they actually make visual effects - it's often layered, textured squares one way or another, and without the textures all that's left is the scaling and motion.

This is incredibly common across all games, even current gen ones. They are just efficient and often with very good looking results if the work is put into them, no matter how hyper realistic a game is meant to be. There are also "volumetric" effects that work in a very different way than these bill boarded particles (as they are often called), but up until somewhat recently this system was all that was used and still is often all that is needed.

This whole run is magical so far, I almost want to study all of the seeds setup this way for myself, which is NOT normal for me. The Drama, From the harsh first hour, the damn near spirit lifting payoff after that, as though given a blessing by RNGesus. The boss's haunting him like they're part of the nemesis system from those shadow of mordor games, coming back stronger the second time, or not letting him escape just because he made it past them and through a fog gate. Also, the claustrophobic horror I didn't know I could feel from seeing a single humanity spirit who's sprite is wider than the stairway from Seath's first encounter gave me a vivid vision of a dark dungeon scenario like this, with walls of meat, bone and living darkness, with eye's and a jagged maw of teeth slowly encroaching in front of me, my weapon doing almost nothing to it, but I try to chip away at it, because this labyrinthine bullshit tunnel I'm in has more of them at every end, and if I don't have the damage to kill it, the ones I JUST noticed slugging their way up the path behind me or down the path to the left, will surely chew me up and use my bones like teeth. 10/10 nightmare fuel, thank you dark souls texture randomizer
