*Personal Note* Work began on this Docu in 2016 prior to the channel's creation. It was previously lost media as it was deleted along with my corrupted hard drive in 2022. When trying to describe how I feel about the development behind this video, the word challenging is an understatement but through challenges comes growth. This is *the most comprehensive video* detailing Dark Cloud's interesting development, from *TGS 1999 all the way to 2023* and *it would not have been possible without the amazing Dark Cloud Community.* All of the source files(voiceover audio, footage, scripts) for this video were lost, I was only left with a rough workprint I found on a USB so I made the best with what I had. The first 50 or so minutes is all new footage I recently created to help replace the lost parts, however the last remainder (the really quiet parts haha!) is what original footage remained and was found. I painstakingly put it back together to the best of my efforts to give the Dark Cloud Community a *definitive Complete History video timeline* for us to use as a resource, it's a cool video and after 6 years I'm happy it's seen the light of day! I dedicate this documentary to my loving parents: My Father, who stood by me when I took my 9 month break from work to begin this Docu and to my Mother who is a constant inspiration and pushed me to complete this. My Father passed away in the years while I worked on this project. He watched a rough cut of it in 2019 and jokingly said, "what the hell is this?" Haha damn, I miss your humor and the jokes we would crack. I know your watching this in Heaven pal; you got the best seat in the house! *Hug your loved ones tight, tomorrow is never a guarantee.* *Thank you all for being on this never-ending journey with me* There is no Dark Cloud Community or Compendium without the love and passion of dedicated fans like you & I. My viewers and patrons both new & old alike are the best. You are the Dark Cloud Compendium. Feels good to cross this one off the list. Onward to the next video, let's not waste anytime! Much Love, Hiddencastle

I just finished playing this game for the first time and now I'm going through the optional dungeon. It's a really fun rpg with exception of the first dungeon which is the most unfair part of the whole game, but once you get past that everything makes sense, the gameplay loop just doesn't kick in till you have found some weapons for each hero. The aspect I liked the most about the gameplay was the fact you can snowball your bad weapons into the good ones to make them stronger and the exploit with switching your main weapon to weak weapon just as the enemy dies makes this really good method of developing your equipment. This game's also very impressive for a launch title on the PS2, the textures are surprisingly high resolution and models are very detailed. Plus it has a very elegant depth of field filter which is unique per location, like how in the desert it it distorts objects in the background with a wavy patern or how in the forest village it makes the location appear somewhat foggy. I was also surprised at how useful the characters were despite the sheer number of them. I found myself using all of them just for the fun of it but I did find that the combos of Toan and Ungaga were never worth it, often missing the second hit which is either shorter or hits exactly as the enemy was getting their i-frames which gave them enough time to retaliate. I ended up playing them like it was NES zelda and they only had 1 stab. I havent watched all videos on this channel but I'd like to add that Akihiro Hino worked on a game called Overblood 2 when he worked at Riverhill soft. And while it may not seem like it, that game has a lot in common with dark cloud, in the sense of both games being mish-mashes of cool stuff the devs were were passionate about. Overblood 2 is not as good of a game, in fact even fans of it agree that it's quite atrocious to play, but there's a lot of heart put into it as well.

@DarkCloudCompendium
@DarkCloudCompendium Жыл бұрын
Hey and hello DoubleUCat, it's great to hear from you again! I'm glad that you enjoyed the Documentary as much as I enjoyed creating it! 💯🌟 I still feel heart broken whenever I think about that original hard drive, it had absolutely everything for this Dark Cloud Channel including many video projects and beta content from Dark Cloud that I was working on or in the process of preserving; when it corrupted everything was put in jeopardy; it was a real make or break moment for the channel. Sadly, I don't know anyone that's adept with computer hardware & I'm not a tech savvy person by any means whatsoever so I took it to several professionals. The process took a couple of weeks as it was passed around from repair shop to repair shop as I wanted to get a second opinion. The consensus was that there was nothing that could be done as it was damaged pretty badly, one repair shop told me that there was a slight chance of data retrieval but the repair cost could exceed 500$ and they would need to ship it out to the States which would mean work on this channel would have to be put on hiatus while specialists across the border work on trying to fix the hard drive or retrieve what data they could if that was a possibility. It put me in a really difficult position as I had already spent weeks taking the drive from place to place only for the consensus to be that it looked pretty dead only to have 1 place say that they could possibly fix it for 500+ but no promises in addition to the time it would take for the specialists to recieve it in the mail and attempt to retrieve data which may or may not be recoverable. It was a moment that could have killed the channel but I decided it was best to look for the future and start working on new projects as soon as possible to not hurt the momentum of the channel as we consistently hit 1 upload a month and preserved so much lost media. I didn't want to let viewers and patrons down by saying that we need to take an extensive hiatus for a recovery that may not even happen due to the damage being that bad so I decided to start from scratch again; the first 'new' video I made was the Dark Cloud 3 AI video which ended up being my favorite video ever and people seemed to like it! I'm a big believer in everything happening for a reason, I decided to take preventive measure and invested in this fancy new thing called Cloud Storage (haha!) We're at the point now where I rebuilt most of the lost videos that were completed so I'm very happy to cross this one off the list. Sorry for the long response, the situation still stings; this channel is and will always be my first born child 😂 Gotta roll with it and make the best out of a bad situation 😊

@@Apexgamer707 It's out there and I'm fairly certain that a collector in Japan has copy of it, the difficult thing is Japanese collectors are notoriously protective of their property and don't believe in the preservation of media Unlike other collectors around the world it's frustrating really but I'm sure that we'll get to see it one day However an issue with these collectors often is when they pass away what happens with their Beta and unreleased video games more often than not their family and spouses don't know quite what to do with them they may not even know the value of them that's why it's so important to preserve this media while we still can. There was a collector in the 20 10th named NintendoMad who had many rare unreleased Nintendo 64 Beta and unreleased versions of Zelda and Conker's Bad Fur day and he would often brag about them never release them to the public unfortunately he passed away and the word is all of his unreleased games he's hoarding are sitting in his wife's attic rotting away. @@DarkCloudCompendium Does Rogue Galaxy hold up in terms of the Dark Cloud/Chronicle timeline? I have not played that one as of yet. I grew up with DC 1 when it first came out and it holds great memories from when i was young. I could only rent DC 2 through Blockbuster so I didn't get far until I was older and got a copy of my own, I am just glad so many others have the same love for the franchise as I do.

As much as I love Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2, the first one will always be special. There was something to it, a certain sense of charm and simplicity it had that 2 lacked. I like how it gave you Georama right away as opposed to DC 2 which made you wait halfway into the second area

Hey Liam, it's great to hear from you! Last year's experiment with Dark Cloud 3 AI was so interesting both for myself as a video creator and for the Dark Cloud Community to observe. I have a very interesting AI video coming in June, it's pretty scary the things we can do with AI! What did you think of the documentary 🥳

Hey Mr.Swissroll, great to hear from you! 😊 Work began on this Docu in 2016 prior to the channel's creation. 🙏🏼🥳

Holy crap... you didn't have to go that far back. I wanted to hear about Dark Cloud, not about the history of video games that has already been covered ad nauseum by other channels. It might be a good idea to double check your scripts so you don't repeat yourself. "Sony wanted the game finished in time for the release of the PlayStation 2 so Level 5 cut out Seda because Sony wanted the game finished in time for the release of the PlayStation 2." Also, your voice over fade in/outs at the beginning/end of each chapter is very unnecessary and out of place and we can't hear what you say. Fade in/out is for music, not narration. Sorry, I used to make documentaries for a living. Can't help but notice these things.

Thank you very much for the advice from your experience, I appreciate that 💯 Despite being a video released this year, this documentary was actually the very first video I completed back in 2018 which is why the narration is lacking compared to the high quality voiceover I can perform today, I held off on releasing it due to wanting to build an proper audience first through uploading videos of shorter length first.📚 In regards to the fade in and out and audio balancing I was in a difficult position as I lost the master file for this documentary when my sadly hard drive corrupted due to overwork. This entire 1 hour documentary was lost media at one point save for a few moments I had backed up on SD cards, I had to stitched it all together the remains without the benefit of having the master file to work with. When I got my hands on the completed video now, i'm perfectionist and I wasn't happy with the final result but we make due with the cards life deals us; I now back everything to the Google Drive 😉 Thanks for joining me on this journey, let's enjoy these classic georama RPGs together ✌🏼🤠 @@themonsterunderyourbed9408

I was really looking forward to a video discussing Level 5 & Dark cloud. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. You wasted so much time on irrelevant facts & unnecessary information. This video could have easily been a 30-45mins long. I felt like I wasted more time than actually learning about the story behind the game. Some of the stuff in the video was interesting. But unfortunately, due to poor writing & bad time management. I'm gonna give you a dislike for wasting my time. I literally had to skip so much of your video for focusing on pointless info. I know writing essays & stuff like this is difficult. But at least talk to someone before uploading. To give you feedback on the video so you can edit out the bad parts. You reminded me of another KZbinr named kitty monk. She uploads essays on TV shows. There are times in her essays where waste time on pointless things. You both either need an editor or at least review your work & grade yourself harshly. Time is important. I wasted my time to say this. But I felt compelled to do so. Have a good one. I'm sorry for being harsh. But I hate having my time wasted

If you think lost media preservation and thorough documentation is a waste of time, I think your in the wrong place. From 6 minutes in to the 46 minute mark I go in depth about the making of Dark Cloud. The point your trying to make about not learning enough is invalid; maybe you should have read that point over again or hired an editor to write it for you. I put timestamps for the very reason of saving you time and letting you pick the specific topic of Dark Cloud's creation you genius lol! Be sure to check out the Patreon page and PayPal link on your way out, that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
