Other than $plurging too much, 😬😆 I felt the same. After about a 10 year hiatus, I'd rediscovered collecting around September/October of 2023, and just went from one new fascination to the next. I just felt reborn! So, yes, 2024 was this fun voyage of rediscovering my joy. 👍🍀🙂🖐️

Finally someone talking about their awful quality outfits!! I only ever see people talk about the price and the mirror thing, which I understand that they’re also bad, but even if the mirror wasn’t there and the price was half that the dolls are still bad. Such a cheap dress. On the small scale dolls, they can get away with it because they’re smaller and have really cute designs, but the full size ones look so cheap.

oh i'm just in love with G3 Venus, her mold, her hair, her fashion, SO good. i even got her skulltimate secrets doll even tho its not the most fantastic bc she just had such good accents i couldn't stay away from the hanging plant earrings or the vine baby hairs...and boy oh boy am i hyped for her fearbook doll!!! the overalls!!! the gloves!!! oh it makes me feel like a little kid! and i love to paint all the tiny details they mold in but don't factory paint. the garden skulltimate secrets was so frustrating to me though. the theme idea is GREAT-and even some of the concepts they put in there, like a rosy red toned draculaura, were so good! but the theme was wasted on a packaging gimmick line...the three of them deserved lolita tea party dresses, and much nicer hair styling. i'm so hype for Jinafire too, i loved the lny doll as well, i was always frustrated with the color balancing of her g1 palette but i think it does it justice, to give so much gold and jewel tones a big showy stage to shine on instead of being packed into a doll that looked a bit clashy imo. so to see g3's take on her palette was wonderful, it all compliments each other instead of fighting to be the boldest color there. and the scales all over are so cute, and the faux embroidery on the boots??? omg...i cannot wait to get my hands on her, and one for my kid sister who always talks abt wanting to be a fashion designer.

As much as I love Lolita style and agree that it would have been perfect for a garden tea party series, the fashion in the garden skulltimate secrets hits a perfect point of millennial nostalgia for me. I love the clothes and shoes so much. I made sure I had duplicate dolls (from other lines) for each ghoul so that both full outfits could be worn, and have the six dolls together with Bite In The Park furniture for their tea party. Edit: Also very excited about the Fearbook Venus! :D

For monster high to usually have so much detail and interesting monster design ideas I can see why a sack dress with no shape or pack of detail would make you sad for sure. I think calling the RH dolls a flop is fair. RH leaned into even their playline dolls being popular with collectors as a way they branded themselves for a long time. With older RH dolls, only the budget line dolls felt like they weren't also aimed at collectors. That's what I liked about them! they were still playable and easy to find in stores, but great quality with interesting designs.

I don't really collect dolls, but if you don't mind what I definitely can talk about is video games! My favourite is absolutely the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection which I got for my birthday! I haven't finished the entire thing yet but I've loved every second of playing it. No real resolutions for this year though, sorry about that.

Monster High really stepped up their game this year, and Barbie seems to be following suit. Almost all of my doll purchases this year were Monster High. Rainbow High has ceased to interest me aside from picking up some dolls I hadn't picked up when they were in stores. I was hoping Bratz would fill the RH shaped hole in my heart, but the accessory game and the face ups just are not nearly as exciting as I'd hoped they would be. I look forward to Mattel's recent success shaking up MGA and getting some better dolls in the future. P.S. The Odile face mold is gonna be my downfall. I haven't bought a Barbie in decades, but that mug mugs so hard I will gladly empty my pockets for her.

I tend to have the opposite opinion of Monster High fans when it comes to their releases, and the Squid Game Skullector was no exception. It'll be a long time before I go looking to buy one, but I hope that the lack of enthusiasm among collectors means it won't cost too much on ebay when I do.

Your number 1 book of the year was a book I was, just a few hours ago, debating buying at Target because it looked interesting. Ended up getting Garden Ghouls Drac and Twyla instead of just one doll and a book, but now that I have a rec from someone whose opinion I tend to agree with, I'm going to keep an eye out for it next time I go to the library or a bookshop! Definitely agree with you on Jinafire. She's gorgeous! Mine's still in-box because I haven't had a chance to open her yet (I have a backlog). As for the Littles... I don't think they're as bad, but in terms of flop releases, I will agree. They aren't for us adult collectors, and they do seem to be a harbinger for RH as a whole (though Iris's doll looks cute and the new version of Meline does as well - I just am tired of gimmicks!).

Um RH slime dolls were the best selling dolls of spring 24 and I'm pretty sure that fall RH had great sales as well. Kids still love them.

I do not entirely hate the RH rebrand.I like the improved screenings better than the og ones and I definitely think is not half as bad as g2 monster high was. But when you compare the slime dolls to let's say the series 1-5 dolls you can see the quality and thoughtfulness clearly dropping.

I thought Barbie had a strong year, particularly the Swirl Ponytail, Pink Premiere, Diwali, Maeve Reilly, Styled by Design, Juan Gabriel, Tribute to Fashion, Dream Besties, and BFMC reboot dolls. Some of the Fashionistas were surprisingly good too, like the Blind Barbie and 65th Anniversary tributes, plus the new Deluxe Style dolls. I also loved the MH Venus McFlytrap doll, like, LOVED her. So, good year for dolls, bad for my wallet, lol. 😄 💸

I agree with everything you have had to say here. As a big Bratz fan the only doll I believe I tried for was Regina but of course with no luck. Rainbow High and LOL are on the downslide you would think MGA would have given the collectors a better shot at them and at this point I am not willing to buy from a scalper. Jinafire Long was definitely the most beautiful release for the year and so happy I got to purchase one. Thank you for the video I really enjoyed it and look forward to these yearly.

I have appreciated the diversity in the Barbie Fashionistas. Not just in body sizes and races, but in other things like unique qualities such as disabilities. I loved the doll with braces. The Barbie with visual impairment was so beautiful. Not sure all of the ones I liked were from this year, but the inclusivity impressed me. This year also marked my first purchase from the Mattel Creations website. It was that pink gala doll with the fur stole. For once there was a gorgeous collector doll that was within my budget. And she embodied everything I loved about the glamorous 80s Barbie dolls of my childhood. That Odile face sealed the deal.

It is the first time since 2021 I didn't buy a single MGA doll. Just Mattel dolls. I wanted to get Pearla and Ace, but then I found some vintage dolls that I really wanted to add to my collection, so I ended up not buying the OMG dolls. Last year, I bought a lot of RH dolls knowing that they would be the last for me. The new dolls just don't appeal to me.

I think how the Mean Girls release was handled is perhaps the most disappointing part of this year, mainly because it’s clear that the company truly does not care about the backlash they got for it. What a shame. 😔 Other than that and several blights such as the Hocus Pocus dolls, this year brought a lot of good dolls such as the Jinafire dolls (both collector and G3 playline), the D23 Jane doll, and the Barbie dolls with the Odile face. ✨

Lenore is actually a very strong doll. She just need a different hairstyle, more victorian like, and a different and better suiting dress. But she's still a beautiful doll. Her face is very well done and gorgeous. Also, the first G3 Spectra should be in everyone's list for favorite dolls of 2024. She's simply exquisite and perfect.

I like Lenore and I would have loved to add her to my collection if easily available. I like all the MH ghosts. Haunted is one of my favourite line and of course, I love Spectra.

My favorite movie is Transformers One (i havent seen Wild Robot yet so prolly gon chang) My favorite video game is Helldivers 2 (Infinity Nikki is so close tho) Dont have a favorite book because I hate reading XDD Anyways, doll talk. The dumb limited stock for Mean Girls is so upsetting. Im not a fan of Mean Girls but DEAR MY WTF WAS THAT SMALL BRAIN MOVE. Only helps scaplers. 😢 I love Ace so muchhh, I dont really like OMG dolls but oh dear, she is beautiful. ❤ I was soo close to getting the Barbie with the Odelie face mold but I was really happy with the Dream Besties both Barbies. 😊 Im a RH collector, and I'm happy I didnt spend anything from them this year because they were going so fast the past. If RH dies, I'm happy because I got enough from them. Now spending on lolita dresses and nail polish. 😂
