Thanks Chenzo! I've only ever had pad Thai at 2 places in Phuket, both were great. One was at the Pad Thai Shop in Karon and the other was from a night vendor outside a 7-11 in Kata (the 7-11 is at Google Maps 7.825058, 98.301437 ) and the making of that pad Thai featured in my recent "Kata by Night" video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGibZmmrm7Noesk I hope that helps

Hi Darren. Congrats on making it to number 5 spot on Eat sleep Bangkok's top ten list of Thailand youtubers. Love noodles which are especially in abundance in Vietnam.Pad See Ew is a favorite of mine but usually comes with a greater concentration of greens than on offer in your featured restaurant. Good luck with the hair restoration. If the noodles don't do it for you try wearing a cheesy wig. lol

Thank you. Thailand is not traditionally a tipping culture, but tips can really help people because the wages are low in Thailand, and they are very much appreciated. I typically tip people 10% to 15% of the bill total.

Thanks Sascha. I don't know that hotel, but I Googled it and sorry, I don't know any street food places near there. It looks like the hotel is about 600 metres from Malin Plaza and 1 kilometre from Banzaan Market. Both places have a great variety of street food every evening. I hope that helps.

👍🏻 it’s hard to tell from video and we Americans are used to huge oversized restaurant meals but would you call on dish a meal by itself or would you order a couple or more? I have herd Thai dishes are on the small size to us Suoer Size me Americans.
@darrenb37 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how hungry I am. Often one dish is enough, other times I get more than one. From what I have read, serving size is probably the reason that many western countries are facing an obesity epidemic, while in Thailand the majority of people are thin.
@francisinghels97657 жыл бұрын
great and complete review with dishes's names, location, etc...yum woonsen is a cold version, right? Question ; how to order soup without blood/organs/skin?
@darrenb37 жыл бұрын
Thanks Francis. Yum woonsen is usually served at room temperature, but it can be warm too, if they have just cooked the noodles. Aorn says, "Mai ao kruang nai" is Thai for no organs etc.
@francisinghels97657 жыл бұрын
Oh tanks Darren and Aorn.....you save my soup/meal!! And yes ice in Thailand is safe.....beter than coffee and tea in plane!!!!
@stefftraveler7 жыл бұрын
Nice video, Darren. Can I ask? How you ask in Thai if the 'soup' of the noodle soup is brewed with blood or clear brew? I don't like the blood stock. If the brew is dark, does that always means it contains blood (liver, organs...) ? I don't mind a chicken foot, as long as I don't have to eat it :) Also, what's your point of view on MSG used in Thai food? I get those questions frequent lately in my food vlogs. Maybe you can make a video about it?
@darrenb37 жыл бұрын
No, if it's dark it isn't always made with organs. Thai duck soup is dark and has none. That question varies depending on the region according to Aorn. Generally if you ask "Nam tok mai?" = does it have blood? Namsai mai?" = is it clear. Rather than asking the question, I think it's easier just to order it as a clear soup (nam sai). That's what I do and I'm yet to get a dark one when I order it clear. Teacher Mod has a good page on ordering Thai noodle soup learnthaiwithmod.com/2012/09/how-to-order-a-thai-noodle-soup-dish/ re MSG I don't have a point of view on it. Lots of restaurants use it here, it's in lots of foods in Western countries too www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2014/11/12/foods-didnt-know-contain-msg.html. If you tell the restaurant "mai ao chuu rot kup" = I don't want MSG thanks, or "mai sai pong chuu rot kup" = Please don't add MSG, hopefully you can avoid it. I hope that helps.

I had my first ever Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. I really loved it and I wished I had more time to in Thailand because I did not get a chance to visit Krabi. My brother and his friends are in Thailand right now and they were just in Krabi a few days ago, but are now in Patong, Phuket. When I was in in Patong and Chiang Mai, I was unsuccessful in finding places that served boat noodle. What is the correct way to say papaya salad in Thai? Is it "som tum" or "tum som" ? When I was in Thailand 2 months ago, I heard people say papaya salad both ways in Thai. I'm a bit confused. I live in the states and we call papaya salad "tum som." Great video by the way. I hope you do a video with Mark Wiens in the future.
@darrenb37 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The correct name is "som tum". I've never hear anyone call it "tom som" in my nearly 6 years of living here, but anything is possible in Thailand... Glad to hear that you got a khao soi in while you were here :)

DARREN- I've found that I prefer Glass Noodles and Egg Noodles to Rice Noodles, the rice ones just tend to fall apart and have very little texture or flavor...
@darrenb37 жыл бұрын
I actually like all noodles I think, I can't really pick a favourite type, but yes, the khanom jeen rice noodles do fall apart easily. I find other types of rice noodles, like in pad Thai, or pad see ew, to be much firmer.

Thanks Michael! Unfortunately it is now the tourist season and Aorn works 7 days a week and it rains pretty much every night, at the times when she is available. We tried to make a video together on Saturday evening at a market and we got rained out. Sunday night we went to a fair and about 10 minutes into filming it started raining, so we had to stop. When it is possible for Aorn and Ananda to be in the videos they will be, but their absence is not through want of trying.
