@@sirocco2810 MK9 had a decent premise of retelling it's story in a cinematic way and through an alternate timeline. But alas it fell victim to the thing every story falls victim to when time travel is involved. Plot holes, inconsistencies, retcons, etc... I love the idea but the execution, Yeesh.

If they actually had a game plan they could have had Kronika influence Raiden to alter the past which explains how he is capable of it and why he can't just do it constantly but they didn't think that far. They could have had Shinnok also altering the past to explain changes to the original games like the Lin-Kuei working for Shang-Tsung or new fighters being there but they don't so its just lazy retcons and as this video explains, Raiden could have sent the message to MK3 Raiden since that's when Kahn must win (he could also say "Kahn must win") and have the timeline diverge from that point but they wanted to leech off nostalgia so they retold the whole MK trilogy despite Raiden's actions not changing much in the first two games so they had to retcon events to be different.

The sad part is MK vs DC, a game everyone hates, actually did have gameplay changes depending on the story. When Jax tosses his gun when fighting Wonder Woman, you can't use that gun and the reason certain character's win a fight is because the Combat Rage makes them stronger and/or makes the other character's weaker so while it is a plot device, its a decent enough explanation for how Sub-Zero can beat Superman. It really seems like as the Nether Realm games progress, they take more and more content out as MK9 had a lot of goofy side effects to add to combat that MKX didn't use, and Injustice 2 had costumes that completely changed the character into someone else with unique intros, and MK11 didn't make use of this for past and future versions of the characters. I feel like MK would be a lot better if they kept these mechanics instead of throwing them out, especially to utilize them in a story mode because so many of them would make the story better because the gameplay could work with the story. They also need to take out the chapter based story so more than just the chapter character can win and villains can win as well. All in all, Nether Realm is shit at coming up with good ideas.

A 14 game series of fighting games that has a consistent story, whether the subject matter is about an 8 headed creature of Japanese mythology or about technology pertaining to human experimentation, doomsday weapons and cloning. Then again, even SNK isn't perfect due to some mis-spelling issues.

@@Ticketman99 SNK stories have their own problems though. They are pulling the same old "characters from another universe" and "resurrect everyone" tricks with the new saga. Just after Ash Crimson pulled an "i am undoing everything that happened in the last arc" trick like Raiden did in mk9. Not to mention Kof / AoF / FF timelines denying each other (such as Geese's status of being alive/dead and years not making sense) Also they strictly follow the tournament format at every game (both MK timelines had two tournaments only) which limits their story telling potential. Also since KoF first came out as an "snk all star" kind of game, the non-FF and non-AoF characters have absolutely no interaction with each other, and they pretty much have no story. Kyo and K Dash win everything and rest are just fodder. MK has multiple factions and characters have well established histories with each other (midway's success) which affects the following games - but in KoF, characters either don't know each other at all or their stories are ignored in favor of Kyo/Iori and the arc's main characters. Think of a character in random, Stryker, Kano, Jade w/e you can tell what part they played in the stories of the games, even track their battles through the story - but you will never know for example what role did Kim Kaphwan played in the stories of games; who did he fought, how was he eliminated, what was he doing during the boss fight? Their stories are just void.

I don’t think Nightwolf is a stereotype, at least not anymore than the rest of the cast. He’s from an unspecified Native American tribe, and wears traditional garb, which makes sense considering the whacky magic that inhabits the MK universe. I think there’s a concept art that shows that, when not fighting Outworld monsters, Nightwolf is a lawyer and wears regular clothes.

You said you didn’t remember the 8 game, after MK4 there was Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon, and the better version of this game, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. No seriously everything done in this game is essentially done in Shaolin Monks, it retells the events of the first game and then jumps straight to Shao Khan trying to invade earth realm, and ends with Shao Khan gettin his shoulder padded and hammer shoved up his poop chute. You also get to actually do tag Kombat in the co-op playing as either Lui Kang and Kung Lao or Scorpion and The Quai Liang Subzero or a combination of the 4. You also get to fight and kill Kintaro by ripping his arms off the his head; which Kintaro’s head can be used as a weapon against Shao Khan.

og fans hate mk shaolin monks, because it was a complete contradiction of the mk series, but they changed the story to this current state just because they were 2 lazy to actually make a story that makes sence in consideration with the original lore. And now new players of the franchaise praice this "new" generation of games full of lame ass references and unoriginal characters ho are just copies of previous ones, not to mention the litle sence of x rays and fatalities are no longer finishing blows but a combination of unnecesary overkill combos. And of course the games are full of dlc witch by the end of the year they are gonna group up in a new version of the game "mk XXX gold edition,etc", so you feel dumb for wasting your money in that one dlc character ho was op at competitive. @Mcheetah No one is debating those criticisms (though they may be a bit hyperbolic, I'd have gone with mediocre). But for Dartigan to sin a game, he needs a proper amount of story content. You know, cutscenes, dialogue, plot points, et cetera. And it needs to be INTERESTING story content, either in a good or a bad way. If there's no variety of material to work with, then he can't really do anything. Case in point, he tried to sin Halo 5 & played it in a research stream, but while not finding outright bad, found that it had so little content to work with (or interesting content) that he gave up on it. Basically, stuff like microtransactions & repetitive gameplay are major sins, but he can't make an entire video on that alone. If Avengers is just going to be bare-bones raid after raid with little justification story-wise, he likely won't tackle it (the game being multiplayer-focused doesn't help as well).

Not only was some newcomer the winner of Armageddon, Shao Khan was flown away by Onaga to I’m pretty sure get his shit pushed in, not only that he was flown miles away I highly doubt he was able to beat Onaga and then make the miles long trek back to the pyramid before the fighting stopped.

Also the fact that Onaga is so strong that Kahn has to resort to poisoning him and was clearly afraid when Onaga grabbed him so how does he get away from a stronger opponent who literally has him in his grasp and then defeat Blaze before Taven does. Its a very stupid retcon, they could have easily used Taven's ending as an excuse for a retcon because his ending makes everyone stronger and more dangerous but they weren't paying attention to the story of the games despite ironically wanting to make a story.

To be fair - the female characters may be half-naked, but they're also built like tree trunks. The newer Mortal Kombat games are one of the few places you can see actually muscular female characters, which I personally find commendable. And it's not just a "ripped" skin. Most of them have arms like weightlifters. That's pretty rare.

3 main issues: 1: 0 to 80% damage combos just so the pros can look cool and the loosing side gets 0% fun 100% guaranteed 2: VERY stiff movesets outside of the intended combos, end lag is massive if you don't do what the game tells you to do so it gets really boring really fast 3: a weird tend to add and remove characters on every release, you know that character you liked? well fuck that, it's gone now, now you get this clone of other character with slightly different special moves Honestly, anyone who plays this game other than casually is just enjoying the power trip

Honestly Mortal Kombat is the only fighting game series that's actually fun to play. It's not a power trip enjoyment though, it's the fact that pulling off moves and/or identifying what my opponent is doing isn't BS impossible. The mechanics are just better. And just to be perfectly clear, I'm not that good, and lose a lot against people who know how to play, that doesn't diminish my fun because unlike other games, like Street Fighter for example, I at least was able to see where I fucked up and know what I need to work on so in actuality losing side gets 100% fun 100% guaranteed.

@@VideoGameVillians Pulling off combos is a matter of knowing them (which aren't difficult, hell, even Smash Bros has harder combos and that one isn't even about that) and once you start one you pretty much won, unlike other fighting games with shorter combos/deal less damage AND some sort of comeback mechanic like a parry, MK is just "the first one to attack wins" btw, identifying moves is also really simple beacause every character has 1-2 combos that are worth a damn, the rest are just filler

No offense but this sounds like it's coming from a place of bias rather than actual facts

I've only had to contend with what special move are they using and what should I do to counter it. In other games they go off with little difference in animations compared to other moves and pulling them off myself in clunky and unintuitive. And Smash Bros is the worst for moves, pulling one off is just random fucking luck.

@@minisquirtle9702 I've played MK 1-4 MK Armageddon, MK Shaolin, MK 10 and some others, the issues i named have been in all of them and yes, i mean scaling, a single combo shouldn't be able to deal 80% of your health in damage (and i'm not making it up, since the game itself shows you the damage you dealt once you finish a combo) Basically the thing is that matches can be easily finished in 2 combos, which aren't even hard to do mind you, any depth (which the game doesn't have to begin with) is killed by that fact

If you want to talk about retcons, the first shot of Raiden receiving memories from the future has Skarlet in the background. Skarlet was a new character designed for this game that did not appear until the DLC and then got retconned when she came back in Mortal Kombat 11 with a new backstory Also I’m fairly certain I saw Khameleon, which if I remember correctly was just a female version of Chameleon and was exclusive to the Nintendo version of whatever game they appeared in and only copied moves from the person they were fighting

It's still a sin because none of those characters Nightwolf, Cyrax, and Sektor came into play until Mortal Kombat 3, there storylines begin in those games. They weren't participants in either of the games epsecially the first one, because the first one had a comic prequel showing a bunch of random people and the second comic which was a prequel to the MK2 showed only Raiden, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sonya, and Sub Zero before Scorpion killed him were the only characters to survive so that means Nightwolf, Cyrax, and Sektor were not and couldn't have been competitors in the tournament what Raiden is seeing is a reckon, therefore the sin still stands.

While i admit that it is a stupud sin and shouldnt be a sin, i believe he is sinning it due to the fact that fighting game plots dont work properly due to the fact every single argument has to turn into a fight where they beat each other to a bloody pulp and then 30 seconds later they are best buds again, which makes any damage anyone takes in the game pointless (except a few like jax having his arms ripped off) because they go through that kind of damage all the time then get back up and keep fighting

"Lightning can heal grievous injuries" - in most cases I would agree and your sarcasm is very funny; however the point being Raiden is a god. It's less that his power in this case is "lightning based" than it is a channeling of divine energy focused on willing the character to heal faster than he normally should. Which is in the base power sets of most gods generally speaking. Especially if they are within the range of any followers who might worship them, and can actively draw on that faith to aid the channeling. But now I'm being far too much of a mythology mechanics geek. Feel free to stuff me in a locker, by god.

Just finished playing through Mortal Kombat 11 + Aftermath, and that game just reminded me of how much I miss the story from Armageddon and Deadly alliance. I was hoping that we would get a bit more of Armageddon in 11 cus they alluded to Taven and Deagon in some of the Character endings in X. So imagine my disappointment when not only do they decide to NOT do that, but they decide to backtrack into the Mortal Kombat version of Greek Mythology....but I guess we got Shang Tsung.....
