Dashcam in the Kia EV6/Ioniq5: 5 min install - Dongar dashcam adapter to hide wires & supply power

I bought this Dongar Technologies Dashcam adapter back in March of 2022. I completely forgot about it. Today, I finally used it to install and clean my dashboard up. I used to have the dashcam wire routed to the bottom of the console, but now you can use the cable behind the rear view mirror. Adds a lot cleaner look and flexibility on install.
Takes about 5 mins total!

@@GoHabs it turns off when the car turns off. You can get a camera that has motion sensing or so if you want something like that.

have you had any disconnect issues due to it using 5v as opposed to 12v? tempted to do this in my Ioniq 5.

I've had zero issues with my batteries. Although I have been using the fit cam X now instead of this adapter. But I used this adapter for months with no issues

Welcome! Sd card for the camera? I had a 32 but I think it just depends on the camera, if that's what you're referring to.

I bought my EV6 because of you road trip video. Watched it 5 times. Did you ever figure how to add your radar unit to the Dongar? Did you use a MirrorTap wire? If so, where did you tap in? Also I am going to change over to the Fitcamx 4K Dash Cam Compatible with Kia EV6 2022 2023. Can that be tapped in as well?

In fact, what a great video it would be if you could show a MirrorTap connection to either Dongar or FitcamX. FitcamX chat line says it cannot be done and Dongar said the same.

Hey! Thanks for the support all these years later haha! As for the radar detector, no I actually never got around to messing with it and I honestly forgot about it. I had just been connecting it down below and had a wire hanging down. Not the best solution. The fit cam 4k camera is awesome. You can catch my review on my KZbin and I've got a discount code on there as well. The fitcam actually connects to the car harness where the dongar adapter was connecting. So it actually just connects directly to the car and you don't have to do anything else. It's the easiest install ever.

Yeah as I mentioned below, the fit cam plugs in directly to where the dongar was connecting to. So you will not be able to use both because the fitcam will be using that harness. You don't need to do anything special with the fitcam

@@Emadifications Let me know if you ever find a work-around…. I hate the crowded dash. Got to be a way to conceal both. I am very scared off hiding wires behind the A-pillars because of compromising the EV6 air-bags.

I can not imagine it ever would. Unless there was a fault in the wiring up there but chances are almost zero.

Dongar is yet to release one that is compatible with ev9.

It was wild to see. And the kid in the mazda tried blaming the lady and said he had a green (he ran a red). I felt bad proving to him he was wrong but I've been screwed by people lying about fault. So dashcam came in handy.

is this like a hardwire kit?.. meaning does the parking mode work on your camera?

No it connects to the rear view camera so it only turns on when the car is on. With the 12 volt battery issues this car has, I don't think I would hardwire anything. And if you do it would need to be connected to something else to get parking mode
