I think that is a FANTASTIC idea to apply for a Habitat for Humanity House! My cousin was a recipient of that many years ago as a single mom with 2 children also. Absolutely talk to them as soon as you can about your current situation. You are correct that they care and listen to the current situation for each applicant and consider the "whole" story! my heart breaks for you, but I can identify with a lot of your plight. I've struggled most of my adult life, divorced with 4 kids, all grown now. I was lucky to get a home in a decent low income neighborhood in 2009 when foreclosures were popping up like StarBucks. But I was drowning in debt . I finally got my credit cards all paid off through debt consolidation and paid off my car the same year. Finally for the first time in my adult life debt free at the age of 62. I'm now 64 and living on retirement benefits from the school district I worked for and social security. Very tight budget but scraping by. I feel for you and your circumstances. Life can suck pretty hard sometimes, and it often feels like it sucks all the time.

I think this is such a good idea I hope they give you a plan to help you get this done even if you don't qualify right away. This is a big first step & will be stressful to get all these steps done but so worth it to have your own private place away from the condo. I would call up that plumber & get some money deducted for him working on someone elses place while you paid him that is insane.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I’m in a condo in southeast Florida and it’s gotten really expensive. Insurance has gone up so much that my association payment is almost $600/month. I have no advice, I would leave this state if I could. 😢

$500 in HOA fees? Wow. I hope when you get in another house, whether it's Habitat for Humanity, or whereever, that you don't get into a HOA. I know alot of neighborhoods have them and It's not fair. I purposely bought my house in an non HOA area but not everyone can do that. They are all over. Please don't give up. I hate to see anyone cry, especially you. You are such a hard working, motivated person. I have a KIA, the dealer fixed it and put in an anti theft device. It's all a hassle. Good luck sweet lady. It will get better! I think that is a great idea!! Why aren't you eligibile for medical assistance? In Minnesota we have Mn Care which is for a household of 1 even can have income of 42,000 or less, so 3 person household should be 85000 or higher

It's insane what you need to bring in for a modest home. I'm forced to live in my vehicle, with the hopes of saving up, and I doordash. That's too much time in my car 🤪 I'm sending you all the good juju, mama!

The office in my area requires you to volunteer so many hours before they will consider getting you into a home. Only adults can do these hours and it can take years to work them all. I only say this as I looked into it. I am also a single mom with 2 kids. My oldest is an adult now but lives at home and my ASD son will turn 18 this year. Our kids are in different places in life but I feel your frustration. Look into low income housing assistance as well in your area and see if they can help you. Google your options in the area you live or are willing to relocate too. If you can move further out of the city you might find cheaper housing options with a longer drive. I do this and have found it is better for my family if I travel the hour. It's not for everyone but it's worth a look. You are an out of the box thinker and I have faith in time you will find what you're in need of. I know you're frustrated and people suck sometimes but don't let it push you to rush into something you haven't gotten to research yet. Best of luck. Sending well wishes and positive vibes your way!

Funny, you should mention it. I just moved from one house to another without a gap in between. I had a very experienced real estate agent. And what we did was, we picked out a new place to live contingent on selling my old place. It worked out beautifully. I did not have to get a bridge loan and now I’m sitting comfortable in my new place.

I manage HOA’s. Question: the governing documents for the condos. In the COA maintenance section in the CC&Rs: there is a breakdown of exactly what the CoA maintains and what individual owners are responsible for. Typically plumbing is each single individual owners responsibility to maintain. Any lines for that condo are that condo owner’s responsibility. That would include maintenance and replacement. What do your condos CC&R maintenance docs say? IF it’s the association’s responsibility it may be best to get a lawyer to send them a letter about their need to take care of the plumbing issues by XYZ date AND reimburse you for what you have spent. IF it’s each owners responsibility… that sucks but it’s very very very typical since condos aren’t apartments. Monthly HOA dues on attached structures are super expensive. Especially in Florida where just the cost of insurance is insane. The cost to maintain the existence of such a large physical structure is crazy for both immediate monthly needs and the long term reserve savings required to keep on top of massive structural repairs so things like that condo collapse don’t happen again.

Florida isn't cheap to live in, houses, condos and apartment rents are high. What I've learned about some areas of florida 2 bedrooms rent for $1,800 to $3,000 per month and require people to make 2.5 to 3x the rent monthly.

Great idea to apply for Habitat house. In my opinion I would actually go & sit face to face & talk to someone & have all your documentation with you & they can look it all over & advise you what if anything you need to do to be able to apply for a house. Here the low income housing you can't make over a certain amount. It's for renting not owning. Your rent is based off how much money you make.

Call your local housing authority they will be able to guide you in the right direction. There is low income housing, HUD housing, public housing, section 8 housing, Etc there are different names for different programs depending on your area.

Homeowners associations are the worst. They use the money they collect for themselves and not for the homeowners. Here in South Florida, it's even worse. My wife and I are considering buying a nice RV. It's less expensive than a house mortgage, especially in the current economy.

Have you investigated Section 8:Housing? Or, rent to own? Surely you can qualify for FHA financing? There are programs for forgiveness loans. You are one of the bravest women and FIGHTER MOMMA!! You can DO this!! Praying for you!!
