The pain of watching that Queen Street train stuck at a signal the wrong way for over an hour (and still not noticed by the end of the video!)

You have to be extra careful when manually routing trains. You always have to double check that no sensors queued an extra route accidentally. You have one from Queen Street to Ashfield, there is also a faulty signal to Springburn and one from Queen Street to Glasgow. You can catch these by looking out for green non-infinite signals with no train near them. These can often cause wrong platform penalties and may cause huge misroutings. Sensors do not overwrite signals, they always queue.

here's a tip for the routing sensor at Springburn: get rid of the arrival sensor, and set trains who want to go to Springburn to platform 2 and set 'other' to platform 1
@DavidB4452 жыл бұрын
You have to be careful when using arrival sensors and routing sensors together because they don't override one another, they will queue the route. Like with the Springburn ones, the routing sensor is setting a route to platform 1 and then the arrival sensor is setting a route for platform 2. Luckily it is working for those trains wanting platform 2 but it's leaving a route set when you don't want there to be. In this case where there is only 2 platforms you only need the routing sensor with a route for those wanting Springburn to platform 2 and set others to platform 1. It gets complicated when there are more than 2 platforms but so long as the routing sensor is first and then the arrival sensor it should work. Just don't set the routing sensors 'others' to anything that way it won't queue an unwanted route. Manually set routes to specific stations that can be accessed from that track then the arrival sensor will route trains that want that station correctly. Ideally you don't always want a default platform set on arrival sensors as if you're not paying attention when an 'any platform' train goes through it doesn't get sent to a platform you don't want it to. Not a huge problem if its a one time intercity but freight trains that can end up blocking a platform for over an hour will cause issues and then you either have to cancel it or manually route trains to incorrect platforms and rack up the fines until the freight leaves. It's easier to manually route new contracts through the system manually and if it's a recurring train then the arrival sensors will route it correctly from there on. Once you have a few recurring contracts that give you a constant income of red tokens I would ignore the freight trains to save blocking platforms for any length of time. Also I would cancel low paying contracts accepted before any track speed upgrades, even thought the trains will now be going faster you'll only be getting paid the percentage of the contract when you accepted it. Then you can get new contracts that will pay more for the same route :)

important thing to mention: intercities with blue name in contract list and green tokens are regular and green ones with red tokens are one-time trains
@rafaelkassner2 жыл бұрын
Better: look at the icon before the train number on the contracts list. Red arrow is single train, looping arrow is a recurring contract. The only recurring contracts that give red tokens are the ones starting at a couch yard.

Squirrel is making many mistakes with the sensors, so it's not entirely your fault for not understanding.
@DavidB4452 жыл бұрын
Basically use arrival sensors before a station to automatically route a train to the correct platform. Don't overthink the routing sensors, you only really need them before a track splits in multiple directions so you can send a train in the correct direction. You don't really need a routing sensor before a station because the departure sensors on the platforms do the same thing as a routing sensor. Be careful when setting default/other routes as you could end up with trains on the wrong platform, especially with freights that have to sit for 40+ minutes.

Put your arrival sensor before your routing center should fix that problem, just make sure to not have the routing sensor double route trains, it takes some watching and testing to get perfect but it is possible

A tip for later maybe, today I noticed that tightening the timetables makes up for a poor initial trial run, as the pay rises accordingly. At first I did it only because I was annoyed by "ghost arrivals" as the trains were a lot early since some rerouting and network upgrade. But now planned/real arrival matches, and I get the money I was missing for ages… I'm good for an optimization pass on all timetables now. I also move departure/arrival in sync (no price change) to make clear space for extra trains, though it may disturb the flow somewhere.
@neuntote2 жыл бұрын
If a non-freight train is sitting on a station for longer than 2 minutes it just means you're too quick. Once you get the upgrade, you can fine tune the arrival/departure times and might actually end up making more money off a contract that way.
@DavidB4452 жыл бұрын
The issue with that is that you really need to pay close attention to other arrivals/departures along it's route otherwise you could create conflicts which in turn could make others late by having to wait at a signal. It can really screw up an otherwise smooth running map but if you spend time working it all out you can maximise the payout on old contracts. Like a contract that would pay 12000 but after the trial train it only offered 6000 you could fine tune it to give the full 12000. I found it easier to cancel some old contracts that were created before any track speed upgrades and route optimisations but of course that means waiting for the right contracts to appear again. I have trains that only have to wait 20-30 seconds at each station which allows for more trains in a constant flow and more money than you know what to do with lol. Currently I have 12 stations in Glasgow all automated and over 12 million cash, >4000 green tokens and >1000 red tokens with all upgrades bought 🤣🤣

Squirrel can you not link Glasgow to the Bridgeton line through the little gap in the wall near the coach yard? That way you can bring stuff into the coach yard from Bridgeton without having to run it through the system.. Edit.. granted you may have to shuffle layout about abit but surely would be beneficial?

I bought the game thanks to this series, very interesting as usual. Especially the routing error for the fret train, half funny half maddening. But I never tried cancelling a one time contract like that. When such thing happened I broke my network with a temporary workaround. It wasn't worth it… And maybe some of the UI could be improved as I messed up as well: a clearer distinction between one time and recurring contracts, like an icon or text instead of just color. Station wait time summary seems to be broken on one time intercities. And I also clicked the wrong contract once, maybe the buttons should be higher (closer to the text). Though now I watch out, so it doesn't happen anymore.
@DavidB4452 жыл бұрын
Recurring contracts have a white arrow circle icon to the left of the contract number whereas one time trains have a red arrow, they are pretty small though. The UI isn't great but you do get used to it. I also bought the game after the second video and now have Glasgow fully automated with 8 stations on 120kph tracks. I can leave it running unattended at 25x speed which generates millions in cash and thousands of tokens. I've bought all the upgrades too so just need to work towards routing in every station.. which is going to be chaos lol
