Corallia Data is second in command. Say Picard and Riker mysteriously died (of an 'unknown' cause) then Data would become captain at least until Starfleet could send another one.
@JesseColton4 жыл бұрын
@@Anonymouzor Technically Beverly Crusher has the same rank as Riker, but effectively Data is third in command. Interestingly, the next person in the chain of command you might expect to be Worf, but it's actually Deanna Troi. There's actually an episode about Deanna being forced to command the ship in their absence.
@KuraIthys4 жыл бұрын
Doctors exist outside the command structure, hence why Beverly is a commander, and in fact, very late in TNG even manages to have the rank of captain... This works because medical is a completely separate thing. The chain of command doesn't quite follow rank though. Deanna troi ends up being a commander when Data is still lt. Commander, but by virtue of being a bridge officer and Chief Operations Officer, Data is only below Commander Riker. It's also worth noting that Data has been a lieutenant commander for the entire time TNG was on air (and into the films) While Geordi started as an Ensign,. Worf was lt. Junior grade. Deanna was a lieutenant (not apparent because we rarely saw her in uniform) In fact, of the cast as existed when TNG started, Data is not only 3rd in command, but there also only appear to be 3 officers of higher rank on the ship (aside from maybe some random background character) Commander Beverly Crusher (but as CMO she's outside the normal chain of command), Commander William T. Riker, and Captain Jean Luc Picard. That so many other characters gained ranks and positions over time while data remained static is also kinda interesting...

Probably once. Brent Spiner is a legendary actor. Look up "The Chase" (s06e20) for an episode where they decided to really show off what he could do. [edit]Not The Chase (S06E20), Masks (S07E17). The Chase is the one where they tried to lampshade all the rubber forehead aliens by claiming the galaxy was seeded by a precursor race, and is considered one of the worse episodes. Aside from showcasing Brent Spiner's acting ability, Masks itself is also a remarkable piece of writing, as it showcases a mythology from an entire mythical civilization, and it's one of my favorite TNG episodes.

Data desperately trying to keep a straight face is one of the funniest things you'll see in TNG.
@elronman4 жыл бұрын
This is honestly one of the most argued plot points in TNG. Its like a paradox. Data should know hes joking, but wouldn't be able to naturally play along.
@minbari734 жыл бұрын
Plot point? It's a pithy send off for the episode that happened in the last 20 seconds before credits rolled.
@nickmalachai22272 жыл бұрын
What's especially funny is that Picard technically didn't order Data to do anything. Data just took Riker to the brig entirely under his own decision-making. Data is absolutely pulling the joke on Riker, and Picard has little to do with it.

Lol data he was joking you how that right lol data nows the captain was declared dead so he can’t give data an order but data duz what the captain said lol
@Stormcaller38014 жыл бұрын
Because in Picard's case he was 'technically' dead, and Data was aware this would be rescinded as soon as they contacted Starfleet. But he didn't say anything about Riker having 'technically' committed crimes- he was serious about those. The real question is what security did when they got to the brig; I'm guessing Worf got a call and then spoke to Picard, who got himself reinstated.
@thiagodeandrade70814 жыл бұрын
To be fair, Picard suggested Data to send Riker to the brig. There is no reason to ignore the "technically dead" guy's advice.

Wow, I’ve watched every TNG episode many times over, and this is the first time I’ve noticed the windows and blinds on the walls to the quarters, never saw that before.
@shmabadu4 жыл бұрын
trylikeafool I’ve went back and the only quarters that have the windows from the inside is Captain Picard’s, I looked up the one episode I knew had a shot of him in his quarters, Devil’s Due, the first shot of the ‘Devil’ and the window is clearly visible right behind her. No one else seems to have it though, even Riker’s, maybe it’s a Captain’s perk?
@Rhythmicons2 жыл бұрын

Was this the joke he finally got in First Contact?
@kolelokaram85414 жыл бұрын
No. It was a joke from the Farpoint mission which occurred over 7 years ago in the first episode.

And it was Generations where he got the joke, not First Contact.

The main question is: what happens on April 5 2063?
@Kazuo1G4 жыл бұрын
In the fictional future history of the show, it's the day that Zefram Cochrane initiates his first warp flight, and attracts the attention of the Vulcans, ushering in the space age.
@SuperVstech4 жыл бұрын
It’s really 2063? I figured Star Trek always had far future timestamps for things... except for the eugenics wars that is... what idiot thought 30 years in the future was far enough for several wars to occur?
@Kazuo1G4 жыл бұрын
@@SuperVstech Well, it's not beyond the realm of possibility. WWII was only 21 years after the first. The Vietnam war was about the same after that, plus or minus about 5 years, and we were smack-dab in the middle of the Cold War at the time, on the brink of nuclear war, and things in America weren't going so smoothly in terms of race relations and equality.
@groom_of_the_stool4 жыл бұрын
@@SuperVstech In the years between WWII and the end of the Cold War, the US and Soviet Union fought many proxy wars instead of engaging in all-out war. There were a ton of wars in that time. And in the 90s, when the Eugenics Wars were supposed to happen, we had issues in places like Somalia, the former Yugoslavia and Thailand. In the Star Trek universe, those leaders were supermen.
