Hi Juliana! Actually from my experience (direct and indirect) Italian men are not romantic if they're not into you! If they take you out for dinner/aperitif they're interested in you, they don't want you to just be your friend! ;) The Facebook status is very subjective, but generally speaking we wait for a few weeks to a couple of months (depending on the situation) to change it -- and we just do it if the dating is consistent of course.

I think this is a pretty similar set of unwritten rules to dating in England. I always think its funny how women want equal rights, equal pay, to be treated equally but still usually expect guys to pay for dinner. Anyway some things will never change. BTW, not too different from dating in the states. However, women will often pay for the date after say a month or two of dating. In my parents time, the guy paid because women often did not have great job choice or salaries back then; now many women are highly educated and well paid so it is not a problem for the woman to pay for the date once in awhile. There is no specific rule; whatever the couple decides.
