@@nomadine85 co conscious doesn’t necessarily mean they know everything going on. Sometimes it can mean they are just closer to the front and not in the back.
@nomadine854 жыл бұрын
@@TheKatarinaGiselle Oh, I see! Thank you for explaining, I thought co-conscious meant that another alter from the system is in the “front room” and that it’s kind of like there’s a sort of screen they can see what’s happening. Chloe explained it like that once, and especially with Kyle I remember Chloe telling the camera that Kyle, who was co-conscious, is shouting at her. 😅 But I also remember Chloe explaining that she would rarely go into the inner world, so perhaps it’s more common for alters other than the host to be co-conscious, and the host, in this case Nin, being more near the front, like you said, although in the past that’s how it was worded instead of co-con. I remember once when Chloe was opening packages, they said oh, I can tell Nina is close by, and on the screen it said “near the front” so I assumed that when it says co-con that the other alter is not just near the front but like a “secondary pilot” (I think those were either Kyle or Chloe’s words). But if Nin wasn’t aware of what was happening externally, and therefore deciding to switch in (for example like Nina once did in the video with the best friend where she also wanted to be part of the video), then that means that something must have triggered the switch? Or does a switch sometimes also just happen because an alter gets a little tired and dissociated?

nah dude, if you make the decision to date someone you have to be ready for all of them. you can't just pick the stuff you think is important and ignore the rest with the excuse that you're not their therapist. sure, they should never treat you as their therapist, as in, they shouldn't be looking for answers to their issues in you, or expecting you to understand. but you should definitely be able to handle their trauma if you want to be with them, it's a part of them. that kind of thinking is why so many people get divorces and break up, handpicking the stuff you like in a person while in a relationship...

my ex knew about me having DID and she handled it well sometimes but other times she would get annoyed at me who is the host not fronting. she would purposely trigger my system out so I would front. she tried to kiss one for my alters and said “so if we’re having sex and you switch out, you expect me to stop?” she damaged all of our mental heath so much that we couldn’t even handle being in her life anymore so we completely removed ourselves. thankfully, my current gf's sister has DID so she grew up being educated and learning more and she’s very good with triggers and isn’t afraid to ask question. she respects our boundaries and shes overall an amazing person to be with.

I get that it's annoying to have to stop in the middle of intimacy, but refusing to do so is not OK under any circumstances.

It's almost too simple from my POV, it's simply all about respect. The real problem comes in with knowing which alter is which and how to tell them apart... THAT is COMPLICATED! @@RodrickMarsMoon In full honesty and forewarning that this is only my personal experience and doesn't reflect anyone's story but my own - I didn't understand it at first and thought they were just pretending/faking not remembering things or being someone else. So it was hard and I'm sure I wasn't understanding of it at first (thought it was 'odd' or wasn't as nonjudgmental as I should have been). We had an up and down relationship at times but I loved them very much. One of their alters fronted once when we were having an argument and it was like nothing I'd ever experienced before. We sat and had a conversation and I started to understand bits and pieces. Obviously now I understand quite a lot more to articulate what happened somewhat? The relationship was hard, but also wonderful and I got along quite well with everyone in their system. I just wish I had this information back then so I would have been better equipped at understanding things.

I think it's the same things, just some things like about monogamy versus polygamy aren't relevant... But checking in about conversation topics, understanding times they can't be around as much, checking if there are triggers you should know about are all good for friends too.
