I'm agreing with Jarett on this. Mostly accurate on being down to earth, dark sense of humor etc. Only thing I would notice (as a bilingual Belgian) is that the video portrays rather french speaking Belgian women. Flemish women might still prefer the 'classic' dates with the typical stuff still and are slightly less spontanious (though as much enjoyable ofcourse). Also I would add that (french speaking) Belgian women are really go with the flow, like you'd get quite some time before having to decide wether or not something is to be something serious or not. Quite universal when it comes to not behaving like a macho. If you're funny or clever that's much more appreciated here :)

Ah you finally did a Belgian one…great! The dark sense of humour, authenticity, and frites + sauce (samouraï, baby!) bits were bang on; I am not so sure about the spontaneity, though! And you may need to do separate ones about the French-speaking, Dutch-speaking, and even German-speaking communities given the diversity of the country. I say all of this as a Canadian living in Belgium for a long time…your Canadian ones were bang on BTW, for better (Québécoises) or for worse (Anglo men and women) One last thing: no way a Belgian would leave his/her bike unlocked…would get stolen in a heartbeat, at least in Brussels!

I spent many years on the coast of Massachusetts and Martha’s Vineyard in my teens and early 20s. Went to college near Boston. I remember going to dinner in Texas in my early 20s with my then-boyfriend ( we were both from the state of Georgia). The wife in the couple from Texas asked loudly at dinner if I went to college in New England. Why yes, said, how did she know? Congratulations for your depiction of Belgian women, it's spot on except maybe for one thing : mayo is the most commonly used sauce on French fries in Belgium so any joint that has it should be more ir less OK (provided it's good quality mayo, which is a different story).

I understand that they wanted to create a culture clash and differences between multiple dating cultures and worldviews, but even by American standards, that was just painful and awkward. Some of these behaviors are just pure cringe, in any culture. I literally know NOBODY that would approach that problem or potential question in that fashion.

@@FGH9G I think there he was just feeling insecure, and it was his awkward way of broaching the topic. Maybe he doesn’t have a lot of dating experience, so he wasn’t very smooth. But at least he’s communicating. When one person thinks they’re exclusive, and one doesn’t, (because it’s never been discussed), it can cause problems. So better to clear that up to make sure they’re both on the same page.

This video makes Belgium look like it has a good dating scene. I am learning German and I am about at the intermediate level. Marina included German in the "Let us know in the comments" at the end. I hope German helps me in Belgium. I am interested in how much speaking German would be useful in Belgium.

German is only useful if you visit the small German-speaking community in the east of the country (about 70,000 people) centred around Eupen. Or if you want to try and chat up some Germans or Austrians working in the EU institutions in Brussels. English is the bridge language between Dutch and French, so that should generally work better if you don’t speak either of those two. The Flemish is particular almost all speak English, and like to practice too.

Not so much tbh, It’s only useful when you’re residing in a German-Speaking Community / Part of Belgium. English works fine specifically in the Flemish Part and Brussels Region.
