Yiayia rocks!! The three women show accurate how three generations facing life. Yiayia down to earth, respectful and thoughtful to her family, coming from a poor family adapted her life and character in order to live with her arranged husband. She is critical to the point and has opinion, religious but open minded, likes respect and thoughtfulness and also offers them to her companion. The second one, mother, a bit more liberal since she grew up during the 80's she is also life experienced, offers good advice to the youngest. Obviously fed up with male attitude but still trying to save the family. The youngest is fully aware of what is best for just for her, she doesn't want to adapt, just search for a matching according to her checklist... typical speciment of a western woman attitude... but can you blame her? At the end of the day she explores the opportunities women have now. The most amazing is that even though these 3 generations of women have different beliefs and morals, they keep discussing between them. The youngest somehow got disappointed when yiayia disapproved her boyfriend.. that is good sign even though she was the most "independent" of the three. I loved yiayia, she is the type of woman that created and supported their family, down to earth person with clear view and crystal morality. As they used to say in Greece : "... families are made by women and are also destroyed by women..."

I disagree with mom strongly. divorce isn't an indication of something working. People stay in abusive relationships becusse divorce is frowned upon. The whole idea well you don't actually know them is wrong too. Of course you aren't going to know them without moving in. Because the situation isn't going to come up. Also some people just aren't good at reading people. Moving in together can help them. Also nothing wrong with being picky. Its your life. Just don't complain being alone if you don't bother working on yourself as well. That said my issue is I don't want to marry at all. I don't want to be tied in a way that legally binds me. Divorce abuse and all can be damaging. You can love someone without all the strings. And if they leave so be it

There's sometimes misconceptions about arranged marriages. My parents in law had an "arranged" marriage, but in fact my father in law had met my mother in law once at the hospital and was interested in her and searched for her. When he had found her, he asked her sister's fiance to introduce him to the family so he could officially meet her. She liked him too and they started seeing each other under the supervision of relatives until he proposed and she accepted and they could meet also without supervision. So while in same way the marriage was "arranged", because officially he was presented to the family as a "proxenio" (possible match for marriage), it's also true that he actively chose her and she had given him hints to find her when they had met in the hospital. I also know other stories from Greek couples where they couple already knew each other before the groom was formally introduced to the family as a proxenio.

The way the grandma was about to cry talking about the wedding and was getting so defensive, and then shushing the mom when she said “what best?” It really makes it seem like her marriage was not a choice at all because of a lot of outside factors going against her, and she has a lot of trauma about it…plus the weird shaming for such a casual joke even Greek guys nowadays would make about themselves. Happy to see they’ve moved past that in terms of views.

Actually to make a comparison between three generations we should compare like 3 persons of the same age speaking in their respective time. What i see here is more like someone who emigrated because of poverty and 2 north american from foreign ascendency. People who emigrate can tend to be more conservative as a tie to their country of origin while values evolve in that country of origin. Also you can feel the tensions due from them being from the same family, especially the grand daughter who seems to love provocation (very immature IMHO). I feel the you g generations can easily get confused between freedom and overconsuming. Liberalism is not the same than freedom.

Typical Greek grandma😂💙 Greek canadians and Greek Americans or Greek Australians are always salty about Greek people that live in home and use the "they are lazy they don't like to work, they only care about having fun, going to tavernas and beaches" narrative but its so wrong. Everybody prefers to having fun instead of working and of course Greece has a huge night out culture but we work at least 8 to 9 hours 6 days a week. Greek immigrants are one of the most workaholic races in the world. We are not lazy my beloved grandma, we just poor with wrong decisions and corrupted governments. Momma is a Canadian born Greek momma so she tryharding to keep her traditional roots although today's Greek mommas are a lot more open minded and cool with living with your boyfriend.

That was lovely and γιαγιά rocked it, especially because she was so thoughtful caring about her brothers' struggle as that custom of brothers having to work hard and get their sisters married and until then they didn't have the right to marry either, has been a big problem back at her time. But the mother's point of view on Greek men being bossy and macho isn't really accurate. Not like there aren't people like that (like in most of the world) but let's say this stereotype was true in the grandma's years but it has stopped being how our men are long ago.

That's very bizarre. My grandpa's sisters are also now in Canada since young and now have their family there. Them 2 as well as their daughters, so essentially my aunts, tend to be a bit like the 2 ladies in the video. I find it very odd for Greek-Canadians to be like that, knowing that most people's families I know and also including my own grandmas back in Greece, they definitely have more ''progressive'' thoughts. I kind of expected the yiayia to be like that as I know that there is some communities like that in Canada. But the mom in this video, I was very shocked, and overall I thought both of the two older generations were quite extreme about the church thing and generalising that Greek men are in a certain way. What an extremely painful video to watch. Imagine having a mother with this kind of conservative ideas in this day and age. Furthermore, I think this video is not at all representative of today's Greeks. At least it's not at all what I (Dutch) have experienced with my girlfriend (Greek) and her family at all. According to my girlfriend, the problem with this video might be the fact that these people do not actually live in Greece (but in Canada). Emigrants tend to hold on to the morals of the time they (or their grand/parents) left their country, and newer generations have a much harder time keeping up with things progressing in their home country. Let me assure you that the people of this mom's generation in Athens are not at all like this. Boy, it must be so hard for this girl to have such a conservative family...
@dialecticsjunkie76533 жыл бұрын
As someone whose parents have conservative ideas, it really depends. When I was younger they would really push their ideas and that created a lot of tension. Nowadays we can just live and let live and my relationship with my parents are a lot better even though we don't agree.

@@Seanonyoutube i meah you are literally thinking that universe as a whole complex system is just an accident, a fluke in a space of nothingness, which, as I see you see trying to use logic and your brain to say that God is not real, would also be a contradiction, because from nothing can't be made something unless some form of energy creates it or in this instance higher force / God creates it. Human brain is puny and can't even comprehend God or the thought of something existing that they didn't witness. I am not going to waste a lot of time so take a glass from your kitchen, look at it, then look here and tell me did that glass get made my itself? Exactly. So there is absolutley nothing you can say or do to make it seem reasonable that sokething as complex as our solar system and everything in it got made by itself, let alone the whole galaxy and even the universe. That is the same as telling me that a room full of printers put papers and ink in them by itself and then exploded and made whole books with covers and they stacked themselves on a shelf. There is almost an infinite amount of proof of a God if you just took a book and tried to educate yourself. This has gone long enough i think so I wish you the best of luck in your life. ❤

@Evelina1995 one thing you got correct about me is that I’m an American alien from the US (born/raised). However, my family lived in Athena, Greece for 3 years after they had migrated from Baghdad, Iraq and then came to the US, as I was the 1st American born along w/ two other siblings after me. I pretty much grew up w/ a lot of Assyrian/Greek cultures and was around a lot of Greeks during my upbringing. And from what I can certainly tell you is that none of these ppl in this video look Greek whatsoever! They’re most likely of North/West European descent, such as Germans/Russians/Ukrainians/Swedes/Finns/Dutch/Norwegians/etc. and had been influenced by the Greek heritage while growing up. Fair skin/blonde hair/blue eyes DEFINITELY DOESN’T fit the ethnic profile of a Greek lol A true native Greek has olive skin/black-brown hair/brown eyes like most typical Mediterranean Europeans/Middle Easterns have. That’s our true native ethnic features that makes us distinctive from other ethnicity within our race. Also, it’s a common stereotype that’s so true and well known across society that Greeks are recognized as ppl w/ dark/olive features lol So I disagree w/ all of your rhetorics/opinions you spewed above about these ppl from the video looking like common Greeks. @ the end of the day, we’re all entitled to our own opinions/rhetorics/perspectives, even though they’re so wrong

@@christychristy9789 based off of your profile photo, you don’t look Greek for shit!!! You look like the ethnicities that I mentioned above. Nowadays, most people who highly acclaim to be Greek are actually of East European descent. Many of y’all racially/ethnically intertwined throughout history w/ Russians/Ukranians/Poles/Lithuanians/etc., which would precisely explain why a lot of modern Greeks are fair featured (blonde hair/blue eyes). Native Greeks are olive featured (brunette hair/brown eyes/green eyes) as some of y’all still hold onto these original ethnic traits
