I do have to say. This album feels more-spring like. And less dark. I feel the shift in their music
@nbcuni Жыл бұрын
Agree. There's a meloncolic optimism to this release.
@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ Жыл бұрын
I personally disagree. It feels very Daughter, very melancholic. As you say, yeah. More spring-like. But still, very "hurt" or "full of emotional distress and pain". I wish they'd release a "happy" or "optimistic" album. They are crazy talented. They have a song called Witches and it's so good. Very energetic.

Back in January, the band said in a press release that this was going to be their most optimistic album yet.

It really is as though every single time an album is released by daughter it echoes every single heartbreak and current thought I’ve had in recent time. I’m truly lucky to be here. I love you and thank you from the bottom of my heart. As always, your songs are stellar, stunning and captivate me still.

The song "Future Lover" seems to be about the singer's longing for a connection with someone who is not currently present in their life. The first verse describes a feeling of being stuck in the present moment, dreaming of a past that is no longer accessible. The chorus, with its repeated questions about the future, suggests a desire to move forward and connect with this future lover, even if only through their imagination or dreams. The second verse acknowledges the potential creepiness of this desire to connect with someone who may not even exist yet, but ultimately dismisses those concerns as irrelevant. The insomniac reference in the verse highlights the difficulty of letting go of this desire and the way it can consume one's thoughts and feelings. Overall, the song captures the bittersweet feeling of yearning for someone or something that may never come to fruition, and the emotional weight that can come with such longing.

Lyrics: [Verse 1: Elena Tonra] I was starting to spin out At how the seasons don't last Why I'm dreaming of somewhere long past Light flash, and all the colours drained fast Now, I'm getting sweet nothings from a ghost in the room Get so heavy when I think of you When we're apart, it's when I start Glowing in the dark [Chorus 1: Elena Tonra] On my telephone I just long to know What's the future like? Is there time enough? [Post-Chorus: Igor Haefeli] (Future lover) [Verse 2] I'm not trying to creep you out Seen a fair amount of misty-eyed actors And split-screens have always raised my suspicions Are you listening for sweet nothings from a ghost in the room? Get so heavy when I think of you I lie awake, always thе way It's always a trap, the insomniac Buzzing at the back [Chorus 2: Elena Tonra & Igor Haefeli] On my telеphone (Future lover) I just long to know (Left to wonder) What's the future like? (Wait another year) Is there time enough? (Left to bother) [Post-Chorus: Igor Haefeli] (Future lover) [Bridge: Elena Tonra] I lie awake, always the way It's always a trap, the insomniac Buzzing at the back (Sweet nothings from a ghost in the room) (Get so heavy when I think of you) I lie awake, always the way It's always a trap, the insomniac Buzzing at the back (Sweet nothings from a ghost in the room) (Get so heavy when I think of you) [Chorus 3: Elena Tonra & Igor Haefeli] On my telephone (Future lover) I just long to know (Left to wonder) What's the future like? (Wait another year) Is there time enough? [Outro: Elena Tonra] Sweet nothings from a ghost in the room Get so heavy when I think of you Sweet nothings from a ghost in the room Get so heavy when I think of you Sweet nothings from a ghost in the room Get so heavy when I think of you Sweet nothings from a ghost in the room Get so heavy when I think of you

This song wraps me with contentment and depression. There's a guy I started liking a few months ago. We take the same bus and I gave him my number, but he never contacted me. I still like him (but pretend that I don't when I c him) bcs that's how human emotions work--u cant just turn them off. Sometimes I find myself visioning a relationship with him, the trips and plans we'd make. I'm slowly accepting I'll never have him: that when I change jobs and stop taking that bus, that's when I'm really going to feel the weight of his absence, of a guy that I a never had but wish I did.

■ One of the best songs of this album, which seems to be created in an 《avant-garde》genra of music, pushing Rock & Folk (rather than Rock & Roll) to their extreme limits. Like it. And I don't know why, but this song make me think of "Skinny ape" by Gorillaz. ■
